- Ben| 2 repliesI phoned the number back, and it is AMEX. The reason why people get dead air when they answer is that AMEX uses an automatic dialer, and it takes them a minute to pick up the phone after someone answers. It seems to me that these automatic dialers are common among cold-callers. Therefore, if I don't get an answer right away, I quickly hang up, knowing that they will come on in a minute to bug me.
- Caller: AMEX

- elfy| 6 replies8006686500 keeps calling me from 7 in the morning, every hour on the hour. It's Amex trying to get me to pay up! Too bad they cut off my limit and raised my fees and interest until I couldn't pay it anymore. Now they're out of luck. Unfortunately I have to either turn off my phone (my only communication with my children!) or be woken up during the night, harassed all day, etc. And they never speak to me when I answer, anyway! GRRRR!
Why don't phones have a "block current caller" option? Don't we have the technology yet to block incoming phone numbers? Or are we not allowed to have such amazing advancements and therefore must be harassed at companies' whims? - JodiThis number continually calls my cell asking for someone other then myself. I have told them they have wrong number. Continue to call and leave hang ups on my answering machine which is costing me money!
- GuyI picked up the phone and there was nobody there. Then it rang again and I assumed it was some idiot so I picked it up and started to curse them out and then hung up. Last month I had a credit on my bill and I was told not to pay anything as they'd over-billed me. I cannot imagine what they'd be phoning about.
- Caller: I didn't bother to find out.
- GuyThey called again and some stupid [***] left a message to call. It's Amex all right. Like I said, last month I had a credit. I have prepaid paying with a bunch of places and I just switched them over to Visa. Kiss my ass.
- Caller: Amex
- di replies to elfyI did what you did once and guess what... they sent my "case" to an agency! Bell was billing me for my cell phone every month which I had never asked, I was buying prepaid cards on my own! Finally, I had to pay ... $1000 the guy from the agency seemed well aware of the AMEX way to get you into trouble...those things can ruin your reputation!
- midtown replies to elfyPanasonic has a call block feature on a number of their cordless phones. Works great and you don't have to subscribe\pay for that service with your phone company.
- midtownIt is Amex. I thought it was a scam because they called saying I was in arrears when I new that was not correct. I am afraid I was a tad profane with the gent, told him not to call back and that I only was ever contacted by Amex by mailand then hung up on him, as I was sure it was a fraud.
After reading this site and finding out it WAS AMEX called them and found that they posted the payment to the wrong account. Not only was I not in arrears, I had a credit! Oh, and I did apologize for my language on the previous call. Live and learn.- Caller: AMEX
- abcThe way to deal with it:
Step 1: Call this number back from a pay phone (no charge).
Step 2: Keep whoever answers for as long as possible until she/he is so annoyed and hangs up.
Step 3: Call the number again--repeat Steps 1 and 2.
If we all do this, we can shut it down. - HunterMan7| 1 replyReceive constant calls that ring once, twice...nobody there.
Apparently I was ONE DOLLAR short (thought the payment was $X, paid it...and it was ONE DOLLAR less).
I will let them call countless times, at a cost of $45/call, trying to collect it.
Hopefully their CEO will die of prostate cancer for being such an anally-attentive SOB.- Caller: American Express

- sam replies to BenHi guys. Since Costco replaced AMEX cards with Capital One cards, Amex wants you to keep their credit card. I would say its the main reason they call.
- RickI had a call from 1-800-668-6500. An automated message kept repeating "Please wait somebody will be with you in a minute" very fast at an annoying pitch. So I hung up. To identify the caller, I had to google the number! A) If someone want to talk to me, a human call is welcome B) a polite and well compose message is more efficient that this agressive badgering that is currently used. Like others have mentionned, I am paying off my Amex and closing it for good. Very bad customer service. Even Costco is not doing business with Amex anymore! WE, customers, have the power, so it is for us to use it.
- Caller: Amex
- Brookeseriously just call them back, it is american express, I accidentally paid the wrong account and was short on my payment buy just over $350 but then it was too late to get it back, I called them and they were very understanding and helpful, I love my american express card, points and Ithe forces me to only spend what I already have XD
- Caller: Amex
- RodI've been getting these calls for a few months and I stopped hanging up on them after a dozen or so. My call was about an American Express Simply Cash card. I've never had one. I connected to customer service and after listening to my explanation they assured me that the calls would stop and they'd only call me back to give me the details of the investigation. Time will tell, I suppose.

- PaulAmerican Express. I called back and told them I get multiple calls a day despite never having had an AMEX card. They said my number must have been on file in error. Still got another call today...
- Caller: American Express
- CTGot a call from this number this morning. Left a message identifying them as AMEX, telling me to call regarding my account.
I do not, and have never had, an AMEX card.- Caller: AMEX
- CTFollow up; I called Amex at a customer service number from their website. (800-869-3016). By searching my phone number they were able to confirm that I am not in their system at all. When I gave them the number I was asked to call (this -6500 number) I was told it is not a part of their system. So don't call it, it is NOT American Express.
- Caller: Not Amex
- ScottFor those of you who are worried This phone number is absolutely legit. It is Amex credit. CT is incorrect! I hope this helps people not to stress out and waste hours on the phone waiting to verify a legit call as did I after reading the false information above. Happy 2017!!!!'m
