- jmThis is legit ! Call the number on back your card, you will find some unusual usage in your card.
- DThe pre-recorded message said to call 800.824.9289, or the number on the back of my card, regarding possible fraud on my card. I called the number on the back of my card and was asked to verify a legitimate charge. If anyone gets this call just call the number on the back of your card. Even though in my case it was legitimate I would never call a number other than the one on the back of my card, even if it was this same 800 number. Lots of fraud out there, be careful.
- tkI got an e-mail message and it sounded fishy, but I called the Amex number on the back of my card and I got transfered to customer service almost immediately. This is real, someone was trying to buy stuff from Apple online store using my card. I'm getting a new card, but I wonder how my card # was stolen. Anyway, this is a real situation, so if you get an e-mail do not ingonre it.
- GigglesLike many others, I was suspicious of the call and didn't answer. Went to my email and had an email from AMEX telling me to call them at the above number. I called customer service on the back of my card. It was legit. Someone had been trying to put charges made on line to my account. Also one small charge 2000 miles from where I live. I ask them what triggered them calling me and they said because I had not used my card for a couple months, which was true. They cancelled my card and sending a new one. I appreciate their quick response as the call to me was made within minutes of the time the charge was tried.

- DogmanI just received a call from this number (800-824-9289) asking for me by name and then asking me about unusual charges to my American Express card ($100 to Dunkin' Donuts, also T.G.I Fridays). I was leery but the woman (Indian accent?) was very professional and asked for no personal information other than verifying my address for the new credit card they are mailing me. She also verified a valid charge from four days ago. Also I just checked and AMEX had sent me an e-mail with the same query. And, to be safe, I then called the number on the back of my AMEX card and spoke to a live person, who verified they had just called!
Bottom line, this call was completely legitimate and I appreciate the quick reaction on their part.- Caller: American Express
- NoelThe number is legit. I called this number and double checked by calling the number on the back of my card. The 2nd rep verified the 1st call, number called from and time I called. Both reps said there weren't any fraudulent charges on my card so I tripled checked by going online. I asked why they called and both said they do random calls for quality assurance.

- Legit?!I do not know who these people are who claim this the number is legit. I DO OWN AN AMEX CARD, and I followed up on this. I received a phone call yesterday that said I had a security issue with my card, to call back and input my account number. It seemed like an obvious mistake because they asked for a female with a last name I did not recognize; I'm a guy. They called again today, leaving a similar message, but no mention of the wrong name. I called the AMEX number ON THE BACK OF MY CARD. They confirmed my account was okay, and claimed to NOT recognize the number.
So I'm okay and I have my peace of mind, BUT FOR THE LIFE OF ME, I CANNOT BELIEVE THE NUMBER OF YOU UNSCRUPULOUS MOTHERFUXXERS ON HERE THAT WOULD PERPETUATE THIS FRAUD.
An easy way to just skirt all this bullshxt? Call the number on the back of your card and verify, please.- Caller: FRAUDFUXXER

- WaltI called it and it brow-bashed me about a free 2 day bahama cruise for calling... doubting the legitimacy... and then wouldn't let me go anywhere until I talked to someone about the cruise.
- Caller: Amex
- TomThis is the American Express Fraud line. After a few big purchases they declined my card. I had a text, a phone call to my cell and another to my home phone within the same minute that my card was declined. Though I understand the concern, its not the same number that is on the back of the card. I called the number on the card.

- QNS NYGot a call from this number but did not answer, checked this website to learn it was from AMEX security dept. Logged into my email and online AMEX acct and saw that I had other warnings there that there was a suspicious charge on my account, attempted 10 minutes earlier.
I called AMEX and learned an online charge was made for 250 USD for a UK inn via an online transaction. Wasn't me. so they cancelled my card and will send me a new one today.

After I received the 1-800 number call, I called the number on the back of my card and found out someone had made several purchases in Canada. After verified my identity and where I made my last purchase with the card they informed me that I will not be responsible for the fraudulent charges and will receive a replacement card.
I logged onto American Express account online and verified that those fraudulent charges are not on my statement and I have a new number. - jimLegitimate American Express fraud alert call. ANSWER THE CALL!!!
