- HerbRoger - this place is a SCAM. They are NOT connected with the U.S. Department of Education in anyway. They name themselves very close to the U.S. DoE, but they are the collection agency of questionable student loans trying to get your money.
Smell the coffee my friend - you are being SCAMMED!- Caller: U.S. Department of Education
- HenryDept of Education - started asking for a bunch of info. Sounded suspicious
- EdReceived call from this number on a cell phone that was given to my 11-year-old son two days ago - hardly likely they would be calling him for load information! This is just another random telemarket gone wild.
- sdKeep getting calls about our granddaughter's student loan. Totally absurd!!
- jay paulMy telephone co ONLY says to call 888 382-1222 to get on "do not call" list.
- MoeI've gotten the same call 4 times on 4 hours. It is a collection agency. I DON'T have any student loans....I'm 55 years old. The website is DEAD. IF it was the Department of Education they send letters and do not call you. In the message it said they were open till midnight and have Saturday hours. When have you seen a goverment agency work that many hours?
- MikeThey call multiple times a week. Same thing every time. I finally called back, they asked for a SSN. I wouldn't give it and hung up. Still, multiple times a week I get called. So I called back again. They answer the phone "Social Security Number please..." I wouldn't give it. They asked if I had a loan with them - I said no. Anyone in the house have a loan? no. They asked for my phone number so they could remove it from their list. I wouldn't give it to them, but after thinking about it, I may call back and give them my phone number. They know they aren't going to get my SSN# so maybe they will actually delete my phone number from their list. It sucks that this can be so obvious of a scam and yet the FTC can't do anything about it.
hmmmmm - maybe I'll give them my ex-wife's SSN# and phone # and let them run with it. ;) - adryan16Called at 5:56 pm on Christmas Eve. What a bunch losers. If this is run by the department of education, it's a testament to this [***] administration.Merry F'in Christmas...
- Go awayReceived numerous calls from these jerks! Like others have stated, they said they were calling about federal student loans. Figured they were scammers! Hopefully, no one will give out their SSN! I told her I never had a student loan, besides, this was a new phone number assignment! Of course, they keep calling! Even after they "promised" to remove our number from their database. Maybe I should go after our phone company for allowing all these annoying calls!
- Caller: Direct Loans
- Rebecca AsheNot a Government number.
- TIM replies to Paul HYou either work for them as a scam artist or ur just dumb? They (I repeat) are not legit!!! Folks call the colleges, they will confirm this!!
- SaraThey are legit... not a scam. Calling to inform me I was in my "grace period" and my students loan payments will begin in June. I graduated in December so this is all correct.
- RickAutomated call 3 times a week for 2 months. I called back and they asked for my social; i said sorry. I explained that I receive this automated call repeatedly and asked what it was about - they said something about student loans...
I said "take my number off your list and send me a letter" - to that she said - "what is your last name sir..."
I said "Sorry again, not giving you that, tell you what, look up my phone # that you keep calling..."
She said "Sorry sir, I need your social or name to help you"
I said "[***] off" I don't give a [***] if this is the gov or not... I have not had student loans in 15 years and they have no business trying to 'do this business' over the phone - what happened to good ole US mail?????? - benit is good to be paranoid, but don't say its a scam without some research. and yes, it is collections, but still legit

- AmyI received a vm on Sunday, May 2, from the same number. The caller identified herself as being with the US Department of Education and asked me to return the call to verify my friend's mailing address, as I was listed as a reference for her college application. I confirmed with said friend and she has never used me as a reference.
Furthermore, my friend contacted her loan agencies and was informed that her mailing address is listed correctly and that the call is bogus and to not give information out.- Call type: Telemarketer
- Ariana Brooke replies to racerxI have found out who that was, just got a call about my daughter or son,it means they must pay a fine for something like a fine for lunch or library books. Very simple actually.
- Deb replies to BobThis an scam they tried over my email and because I blocked them they tried over my phone with an automatic message... Don't get into this game by these people. Phone # if you have SallyMae is 18882725543 aand direct loans is 18008480979, 18008480983 and the website is: www.dl.ed.gov. She said me wanted to verify my address. She knew I had student loans from OSU. She reemphasized that she was calling from the Department of Education and I should give the information to whomever took the call at the 800 number.
