- Joshua| 1 replyI got a call from them just amonute ago and i was working online anyways so me being lazy and somehow smart now type my student records number calling and it led me to this, if its a scam or whatever, here no reason for me to call them back, I dont have student loans at all.
- Caller: No idea
- JoshuaSo after reading so of everyones comment and how they approached this company, I called, and was greeted with a very rude woman, who i had to persuade to look up the information my the phone number that they tried to reach me on with thier automated message and she asked me over would you rather be difficult and I said no ma'am not at all, you havent said a word about who this is calling nor your name or company so why should i be inclined to give out something that would tell you everything about me? She argued until she finally looked up the phone number they tried to reach me on and it didnt even have any information so I there was really no reason for her rude and unnecessary behavior
- Caller: Direct loan Services
- Law student replies to JoshuaIt is not a scam. I just called them and you can give your name and they can find you. The reason for my call is they sent me something through mail and it was returned. So basically they wanted to make sure my contact info was correct. I gave only my full name and they had all my info which I did not provide them. There can be three reasons they're calling 1.) defaulted loan 2.) Someone used you as a reference and 3.) contact info needs updating. The woman was actually very nice. She asked for my social security number which I told her I do not feel comfortable giving to her and I asked her can I give her my name and she looked me up that way. It is to your best interest to figure out whats going on especially when it comes to government loans God forbid you default (stomach ulcer just thinking of it).
- MikeJust got a call from the number. This is the servicing company for Department of Education Loans. I didn't answer but received an automated voicemail in regards to the recent update for auto debit loan pay. Harmless if you ask me.
- Caller: Dept of Education
- HeleneI just got a call from this number with a message saying that they called from Government Education department about my student loan. I have updated all information for my student loan. Good thing I didn't pick up. Geez...

- KMThis company is phising! The first question they asked was my SS#. I have no affiliation with them whatsoevery. SCAM! Beware consumers...
- DBS replies to JMLI agree. This is a legitimate call from the Department of Education.
They left me a full and professional voicemail. It was informational only, and they requested nothing.
Just letting me know that my auto debit monthly will occur the business day after the scheduled payment, but be posted with an effective date of the due date. - MEUm, it is real. They just left me a message saying my payment date has moved from the 28th to the 1st of the month. It is the DEPT OF EDUCATION/DIRECT LOANS. It's legit, people...
- Been collected onBy law they have to identify themselves and tell you that any information that you give them can be used to collect a debt. If they do not say this first they are fraud. I have been collected on settled my debts and at no time did they ever ask for my social. In fact they asked me questions about my history and told me to tell them which ones were wrong so that they could verify i was who i said i was. use common sense people if you never went to school then you don't owe student loans.
- Caller: direct loans
- Call type: Debt collector
- ellie replies to Rogerthe number you said is legitimate isn't even the same number that everyone else is receiving calls from.
- EllieI am not the only one receiving calls from this number, that claims to be calling to provide information about the individuals' student loan information. The message left states that it is a call from the United States Department of Education. Upon returning the phone call, the first thing you are asked for is your social security number. Obviously, because they claim to be a division of the federal government, some have provided their social security numbers. I am unsure of what their purpose is, because I myself have ignored these calls. I refuse to give out my social security number to a 1-800 number that is not listed on the U.S. Department of Education's website to begin with. So, do not answer, do not return the call, and do not give out your social security number to ANYONE.

- J.J.This number has called my mom more than 7 times. I called back and I was on hold asking to be ready to be held out with a student loan and S.S. number.
I later told my mom and she called back the number as well, she was talking to a lady that told my mom she signed up for a student loan, and a person named 'Gwandolyn Wilson' gave them my mom's number. Hmmmm....?? They were asking for her S.S. # too, and my mom told them she would not give out any personal info, and that she never signed up for Student loan. My mom asked how the lady got my mother's number & She told them she does not know anybody by the name Gwandolyn Wilson. Lesson here is, never give out your personal info please!!! - DSFIt is a legit collection agency. I called the number, talked to a very nice lady who was able to call up the information with just the phone number. Looking for a T*** M****. We got this number new six months ago and began receiving phone calls for this individual. I told the lady this person never lived here, and that others have called this number looking for her as well. I suspect she used this number before we did. The lady removed our number from the data base

- JenniferI had similar experiences: I've received calls from this number, no one leaving messages or identifying themselves and when I called back and reached someone the lady was very rude, did not identify herself and the first words out of her mouth were "social security number please" I told her I didn't know who she was or where she was calling from so I wasn't giving any numbers, after telling me where she was calling from she did not say a word, I had to inquire as to what she was calling for. She then informed me that even tho my bank statements say the payments are going to my loans, they are not receiving them and became cleverly disrespectful. When I told her I did not appreciate how she was speaking to me and that I'd like to know what she needed so I could take care of it and end the Phone call she started laughing at me as I was talking. Eventually she did give me the information I needed, however was very unprofessional and disrespectful. Way to go NYS government for hiring top notch employees...
- HimHaving worked for the company let me put this as simple as can be. When you call they ask for your SSN because the other choice takes a lot more time and time is money. If they asked for your name you would have to spell it out. first, middle int, and last. Then give your city and state (to narrow down the list) then still your birthday just for them to make sure they have the right person account. Then by law they have to make you verify (prove to the company) you are who you say you are by asking you more questions before they can disclose any person information about the account to you.
They company has 2 main phone numbers 800-848-0981 & 800-848-0979. One for past due borrowers one for current borrowers. Your SSN is number given to you by the government to make you unique. When you borrower money from the government of course they are going to use your SSN for your account.
If you don't have any student loans, just give them your number and they will find the account with your number on it. Ask if you know the person (in case its your bother/mother) and finally if you request it they will remove the number.- Caller: https://www.myedaccount.com/

- ClarkI keep getting calls from 800-848-0981. I called them one time and the woman immediately asked for my SS number. I told her I would not give it to her and asked to removed from her calling list. She said she would take care of that. The have called at least six more times since that day.
- Caller: Dept. of Education (ha!)
- Don't go to the siteI got a call from this number and they said blah blah, important regarding your student loans and they said you can visit our website at www.my@account.com. DON'T DO IT!! Luckily my computer said something about "You're about to go into a website that you will need to log in to with your information" or something like this. I think it was whatever protections that I have on my computer that poped-up this warning and it is a good thing that it did. I cancelled out of it.
This is BOGUS!- Caller: CLAIMS to be goverment aid for student loans
- BillIt is the Dept of Education regarding student loans or at least a creditor representing them.
