I got a call from this number yesterday. Later in the day I got an email from Discover saying they had tried to contact me by phone. Today I called the number on the back of my card and the lady I talked to said they had tried to call me. It was because a letter they had sent me had been returned and they needed to verify my address.

Same happened to me today, I did call to Discover and they confirmed they were trying to reach me to send a statement. If you got a phone call from that number just call Discover to ask.

There is no way they could tell you if it is one of their numbers, they have thousands of numbers in hundreds of different offices across the USA.

It is Discover, their financial services wing.  They give out personal loans to help you consolidate debt, especially credit card debt.  And it is actually a good deal... for once.  Most companies in this arena are complete rip offs and scams.

Official-sounding caller, asked for me by name and said he was from Discover Bank (where I have an account). Made it sound like he was going to legitimately ask me questions before he could "divulge any information." When he immediately asked for my mother's maiden name I could tell it was a scam/phishing attempt and hung up.

After reading several of the posts below, I decided to call Discover myself as a few weeks ago I was notified of a data breach and sent a new card which I did not activate. Since a few of the posts claimed the number was Discover's fraud department, I thought it could be in relation to that. So, after talking with Chris at Discover (8003473162) and giving him the number that called
Me, he confirmed that the number does NOT belong to Discover and that protocol is to leave a message. I didn't call this number back, so I do not know who the company claims to be. The number in my post can be found on Discover's website.

They left a msg on my voicemail today and someone called Josh asked me to call him back soon as possible. If it was from a credit card company, they would say this is 😱😱 from so and so but he did not say Josh from Discovery, Visa, Master card etc.. Very fishy.

I got a call. They did leave a message
Caller gave a name and said he has a savings opportunity for me.
I know he at least got my number from discover because he pronounced my last name as it is on the Discover Card, which has one letter incorrect. Said it is not a sales or solicitation call.

This is, in fact, Discover from their office in UT. I called Discover about a question regarding my account. I talked to a lady and she said she's going to do some research and call me back. She called me back using this number. It is Discover, and no, I'm not lying.

This is surely scam. I get the call every week. Somehow they have my nickname on their info, that I never use for bank or credit accounts. They asked me my address and SSN. I disconnect the call, and called real Discover card official number, and Discovery confirmed that they do not have my info in their account. Discover people told be aware of this is scam.

This number called me at 8:45am central time. I did not answer and they did not leave a message. I called the number back and it is an automated message that states they are Discover. Unless they leave a message, I assume it's not them or it's not important.

I strongly doubt that… I just received a call from them and I don't have a Discover card

I got a call from this number today with no message. The last time I got a call from Discover was 2 years ago, and they left a message due to the fact that I forgot to make a payment.

This is actually Discover calling.  They left me a message in regard to a personal loan I had applied for a few days ago...got an outrageously high interest rate so I never finished submitting any paperwork.  There's no way a scammer would have had access to that information as I did everything over the phone with them originally based on an insert in my Discover Card monthly statement.  So this is a legitimate number.  That being said - I am totally ignoring the call because I can get cash advances at lower rates than their ridiculous personal loan rate!
