- Greg HThis # called 3 times today and left no message. seems to be coming from a building near MCV in richmond.
- WolfJust got a call from this CID. No one on the other end. I need to set up my phone with a blacklist to filter these buzzards out...
- Eleanor RooseveltI received a call from 804-415-4044. The caller asked for me by name and idenitifed himself as calling on behalf of the Virginia Fraternal Order of Police. He said he was raising money to help the families of officers slain in the line of duty and especially their children. He wanted to know if he could count on me for a $45 donation to help these poor children. I asked who he worked for, and he said it was a call center owned by JAK. I asked what percentage of the money went to the police, and he said 15 percent. I said that meant 85 percent did *not* go to the police, which I thought was not a great percentage. He replied that the charitable effort took a great deal of overhead, what with the employees, computers, phones, and pledge kits. I pointed out that if I gave them $45, then only $8.75 would go to the police, while $36.25 would go to JAK. I said it seemed a whole lot more helpful to the police if I just went to the local station and gave them $45 directly. He replied that most people just don't follow through on such impulses. I asked who was in charge of JAK and what was that person's salary. He said he didn't have that info, and really he would love to chat with me all day, but he had more calls to make . . . I asked what I had to do to get off their call list. He said he could take of that right then and there. I said thank you and we ended the call.

- PRIMATE1948I called (440) 885-8250 and a woman answered "MPI". I told her that I wanted them to stop calling me immediately and that I had already contacted the FTC and that I would hire a lawyer if necessary to sue them for nuisance calls. She said, "That will not be necessary at all." She asked me for my number and then asked if I was the certain person (my name) they were calling. I said yes. She said the calls would stop immediately. We shall see. The next time they call -- I'll start a class action suit.

Thanks - Barbara e> LippincottPlease stop these people from calling me. It's getting very annoying
- A.M.I think this "charity" is a fraud, but I need people to gather info on them.
I need the: Full name of the "Charity," address, and phone #.
Also Name/address/phone # of any other calls you receive of a similar nature.
If you receive a call from this "charity" contact your state's Attorney's General Office, Charity division, and ask if they are legit. Please submit a complaint about them, if they are not registered. State Attorney's Generals take Police/Firefighter scam charities seriously, but need information to help.
I checked with my state's Attorney's General Office, and they have never heard of Minnesota Fraternal Order of Police. - A.M. replies to AnonymI'm not sure if Midwest Publishing Inc is behind the Minnesota Fraternal Order of Police, how did you link them together?
On a side note, Midwest Publishing has a new list of Charities.
American Federation of Police & Concerned Citizens, Inc., The
Cancer Center for Detection & Prevention
Cancer Survivors' Fund
Caring for Our Children Foundation
FireFighters Charitable Foundation
Medical Support Association, Inc., The
Operation Lookout National Center for Missing Youth
Washington State Narcotics Investigators Association (WSNIA)
Woman To Woman Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc.
Variable at the Secretary of State of Washington State's website: http://www.sos.wa.gov/charities/search_detail_cfr.aspx?cfr_id=21316 - madcap mommaLet me give you some "inside" info:
1) Don't answer ANY call that has the above number on the ID.
2) Don't answer ANY that say "Pennsylvania Call..., Washington DC call..., or any other call that starts with a state name.
3) Don't answer ANY call where the number is listed as "Unknown" or "Out of Area."
4) Many phone companies have services that intercept calls from "Unknown" or "Out of Area" numbers. They usually cost around $5 or $6, but are well worth it!
5) The federal do-not-call list doesn't apply to non-profit organizations. So telemarketers calling for those can still get through.
6) Many people put a message on their machines to the effect of "If you are a telemarketer, add this number to your do-not-call list, and hang up immediately." That probably won't work every time, but many will abide by that. They are supposed to. Then screen any calls from numbers you don't recognize.
7) Be aware that any time you donate online or opt-in for where you give your phone number that you are risking having your number snapped up by a list broker, which is where most telemarketing services get their numbers from. Read everything very carefully, particularly as pertains to your personal information and third parties.
Hope some of this info helps!- Call type: Telemarketer
- Arthur Piedmont| 2 repliesFYI for all you good people. The "national do-not-call list" is, at best, a complete farce. You can demand that each company that calls you place you on their list, but that is as far as that demand goes. Telemarketing companies have absolutely no clue who is or isn't on the "list".
My course of action; I have a referees whistle that, once I have determined the caller to be a telemarketer, I blow as hard as I can into the phone and hang up. As with Pavlov's dogs, these
folks seem to get the message right away. I now get, at most, one call a week. I anticipate that
number to decrease soon, as I continue to "blow the whistle"!- Caller: numerous

- csrep replies to Arthur PiedmontBlowing the whistle in the phone...yeah thats a great idea to make someone go deaf and in return sue you. Look up the consequences of that!! Just hang up dumbass. Obviously if these charities are using them, they have to be of some help. Perhaps if all you tightwads would donate on your own they wouldn't need to call.

- CaseyI work for MPI. Our job is to take your money. If not your money, then your mother's money, your grandmother's money, your daughter's money, etc. We don't care if we have to lie to you to get your money. It's true that we only give 15% or less to the charities we fund raise for. But who cares? They're not doing it so what the hell do you expect. I'm trying to get a new car, my girlfriend needs some new shoes, and I have to stay flossin on these darkies. I'm writing this while drunk so I don't care if you get mad and I run MPI so they'll never fire me.
We operate at 1919 University Ave. in St. Paul, MN if any of you want to come see me. I have goons that work for me that will beat you to a bloody pulp. Most of the people that work for us have criminal records, so you don't want to mess with us. We hire them to get a WOTC from the government. It really helps us save on payroll. I mean, I like some of those darkies, but they're just to dirty to ever truly be my friend. The truth is, if they don't make money for us, we get force them out. They are easily riled up, so all it takes is a little prodding to get them out the door.
Anyways, what we do is get a contract from some organization like the Florida Highway Patrol Command Association or the Nation Association of Chiefs of Police or a Breast Cancer Society. Cops are cool but they're broke so they'll take anything they can get in terms of funding. Breast Cancer people are the same way, they're just so desperate for money that they allow us to fundraise for them. If communities were more involved in fundraising for these organizations, they wouldn't turn to us. We give them 15% or less of everything we raise and our pledges start at $75, $50, or $35. We like to target the elderly, disabled, and retired because we just can't get enough of those government checks. They put a nice chain on my neck and the bi****s love me. I love talking an old lady out of her social security check, it just brightens my day.
This old lady I talked to once gave me a sob story about how her husband had just died and that she was going through a foreclosure. Cry me a river. I guilt tripped her about the lives that would be lost and the children that would suffer if she didn't donate to us. She ended up pledging $100, thanks to my charm. I love MPI, I get paid and there is nothing you losers can do to stop it. Quit complaining and let me get money. I understand that alot of you don't like giving money to darkies, to be honest they only get paid $8/hour. I get paid way more than that so you're not giving all of your money to darkies, you're giving most of it to a very handsome guy.
