- JI| 1 replyThis has been confusing me too but I think I've finally got my head round it. A friend sent a photo from his laptop to my mobile, which beeped and displayed the same message everyone else is receiving. The call came from number 820202 and the message centre was +447802000332. On the next occasion it happened, I assumed it was the same friend because the numbers were the same. It happened again today and I reminded him that my ancient phone cannot receive picture messages. He said the message wasn't from him, so I've done some research and I think the 820202 number and the message centre are the origin of the 'Message cannot be displayed' message, but have absolutely nothing to do with the origin of the actual message. So basically, if a message is sent to your phone (either an unsolicited marketing call or from a friend) which your phone cannot 'receive' because it is incompatible, a message is automatically generated by 820202 to alert you to the fact. Why they cannot also give you the number the incompatible message came from, which might actually be of use, is another question. I'm on the Tesco network, which I understand is part of 02?

- Ellie| 1 replyGot a text saying incompatible message from 820202
- Phoneman-GU15If you are on "O2", just forward it to SPAM (7726) and let O2 worry about all the needless forwarded spam they are creating for themselves.

- Lucky replies to EllieThese 820202 calls have been going on for several years. They worried my better half so I had an online chat with O2. In no time they confirmed that (as many of us suspected) the calls are from them. Annoying but I don't feel that there is anything to worry about.
- Nessy replies to JIThank you for this info. I will now try to explain to my husband what the text was. Our non-techno brains match our non-techno phones.
- gracei recieve this"incopatible message" almost everyday from 0820090000 im worried.
- Chippy chappieI see, from reading all the above, that these "820202 Message cannot be displayed" messages have been going on since 2008 or maybe earlier.ie at least 7 years.
I had my first one today on a basic Nokia 100 on the Tesco (O2) network. (Brilliant little phone, worked out in the sticks in Kenya, in Cape Town, in Dubai and Addis Ababa).
Shame O2 don't tell you what caused the message to be generated. Is someone trying to send me something important that the phone can't handle ? - JollyI have had 2 texts from 820202 recently, with garbled message which suggests it might be a picture which my ancient 'phone can't deal with. However, the first contained among the gibberish, the 'phone number of one of my family. The second one was similar and contained the number of another member of my family, who know nothing about it.
- Lòo-p replies to VivianApparently tesco mobile are under the O2 span. ...
- RosemaryI received call from 820202 via message centre +447802000332 which I was unable to open. It was sent 9 May 2016 at 14:06:57.
All I could do was delete it.- Caller: 820202

- Rickie| 1 replyNot marketing junk or anything sinister. It occurs when a older or basic type of phone cannot receive and display photo's that have been texted. Either time to update your mobile or tell people not to send you photo's.
