This number texted me about an “outstanding balance” for my hospital visit. It’s a scam to get your personal info.

Sounds more like a scam to get actual money. Your "personal info" is worth peanuts, but hundreds or thousands of dollars spend anywhere.

There are reports over at 800notes.com. This outfit supplies out-of-network doctors to hospitals and emergency rooms. They should be sending bills out but I guess text messages are cheaper and they can increase their bottom line.

I received a text from 833-217-8326. I didn't open it but I could read this:  "Your emergency department physician bill from your visit to (name of actual hospital) is now ready to be paid, but your insurance company has denied coverage of some services...".  Duh, if they deny some of it, send me a legitimate bill. I actually did have an ER visit but I've already received the EOB statement from my insurance company.  Thanks for your posts here. I deleted and blocked the number  I'm curious to know if the text included  a malicious link.

Same as above and I also was admitted to the emergency room. Already paid my bill. Wonder who is hacking the hospitals.

TOTAL SCAM. It does include a link and it sure looks legitimate. But it's a scam, I got the text 5 days after I was discharged. Not even enough time to bill my insurance company. I don't know how this hospital got hacked but now I'm worried about my personal information.

We would like to remind you that there is an outstanding balance on your physician bill from your visit to LEHIGH VALLEY HOSPITAL-DICKSON CITY.

Your insurance company has denied coverage of some services per your policy.

Where exactly is the scam here? You went to the hospital and now you owe the doctor/practice money. That link takes you to the site to pay the money which is $50.72. The Teamhealth website has been up since 1997 according to whois.com. No one hacked the hospital since you signed the treatment consent and gave them your information. No doubt you didn't bother to read anything that you signed. Advising people to not pay their bills is simply not right. I am sure that you and anyone else that doesn't pay their bills will end up with marks on their credit record and debt collectors calling them.

I called my hospital and the physician that saw me billing department.  They advised me this is a scam.  My medical bills are paid in full by the VA and Medicare.  More power to you for paying money you likely didn’t even owe,or at least not to the people on the other end of this text.

I didn't pay anything but I did take the time to check this out. I have even posted proof but I guess that isn't enough for you or you simply want to believe something that isn't so very badly that you refuse to accept reality?

Why not call the hospital and find out if you have an outstanding balance? That is the best way to separate legit bills from possible scam.
It is hard to say if Teamhealth is flawless or not, those billing outfits can make mistakes. And scammers can try to slip in and pretend to be legit. Your followup on billing questions is your best protection.

You are way off base if you think JackReacher is a scammer. He has been reading and posting here  practically since the site's beginning. In the posts about to Renee S, looks like he back checked on the billing with the link Renee S provided, and the communication was legit. If she wants to fight the $50 balance, she should be talking to the hospital. To just not pay it creates more problems.

Since you know so much why didn't you post the proof that I am wrong? After all, I posted proof that this was an actual site. You on the other hand have posted nothing but conjecture. Don't worry though, eventually when you start getting debt collection calls and your credit report shows unpaid bills then you will have all the proof that you need.
