I got txt from this number when i applied for balance transfer with virgin. the txt is genuine but now i look at my mobile bill the reply cost me 13p when i have unlimited txt messages. what a bunch of crooks!!!!!

Just had one this morning. MBNA is the company who manage the cards for A&L and Virgin. I called them and complained that it looked like a spam text. They just don't get it that people would like to verify who we are receiving texts from before we share any of our personal details with them or confirm anything relating to a financial transaction.

Got one yesterday about a £20 Asda Stores Mobile Top-Up purchase which wasn't made by me. It did have the correct last 4 digits of my card number in the message, so I thought it was genuine. But after replying yes, I then checked my account online to find that there have been quite a few transactions done within the past day amounting to about £60 which weren't made by me! So quickly called up MBNA and the customer rep confirmed to me all those transactions made yesterday, and I asked her to block my card and she did so straight away, but says I should be contacted by the fraud department tomorrow but she gave me the direct number to the fraud department too in case I would like to contact them first myself.

Hi all, definitely not a scam. It is MBNA/ Virgin. Don't ignore these texts, always phone your card company. They have helped me a few times!

Yes, its genuine. It was checking up on a large paypal transaction on my cc. Again, would have been nice to know in advance that they do that, then I could have stored the number!

Received same messages as above rang Virgin Money and found out it was my wife's card but omitted   to verify that it was my mobile no. they used from their records. very shabby lucky the balance transfers were already authorised.  Always wise to call the card company just in case!

I had a text msg. It it from a very strange no. It is related to transfer.

When I signed up for my MBNA card I specifically did not tick the box that said "PLEASE CONTACT ME VIA TEXT MESSAGE".  But today I have received a text from 83838 telling me about their text message information service.  Grrrr MBNA, I specifically said I don't want this.  I called and they said they will action my request to opt out of text messages, but it will take two weeks.  Yet another proof that if you don't want text message spam, the only way to be sure is to not give out your mobile number.

This one is used by "several providers" but appears to actually be MBNA, which provides credit cards under a number of different brands, including Virgin.

The message I got was from Virgin advising of an increase in my credit limit, which Virgin/MBNA had already written to me about, so I knew it was genuine.

If you don't think you have an MBNA credit card and get a message from this number I would contact MBNA to find out what is going on.

Got similar text today and checked with MBNA and they confirmed it is a test alert from them.

The day after I appled for a virgin credit card off the website and did a balance transfer, The txt came through asking f i had asked for a balance transfer, I replied yes as It all tied in nicely , now lookng on my phonebill i have been charged £6.60 for the pleasure, not happy!!

I had one asking me to confirm and check my balance it is legitimate but IT COSTS £1 to text them rip off

Had same txt saying advising me to use a new 4 digit no when I request information is a virgin number .will ignore it

i got one on my phone from mbna saying i owe minimum payment of 237 pounds. i dont have an mbna or virgin card

Please don't send me these texts. I do not have an account with you and certainly do not owe you money.
If this persists it will be reported.

I had one of these today, from MBNA - asking for my holiday dates abroad. Didn't answer as I use a different card abroad anyway.

I got one supposedly from MBNA.  Avg picked it up as suspicious text.

Odd I got that once it was so funny and weird I was scared 😯 it said to buy a hide away pet

Mbn said that I was big and fat 😡

text saying I applied for an MBNA American Express credit card and they are reviewing my application, they will advise shortly of the outcome. funny as I never applied for one.
