Called asking questions about insurance coverages.  Number of employees who work 20 or more hours per week.  Stated that they were simply trying to update our United Healthcare Coordination of Benefits for employees.

A person named Jeannie Taylor called my message machine.  She did not say which company she was representing, just that she was with the coordination of benefits department at extension #whatever.  Sounds suspicious to me.

If you would just return the darn call you would know its United Healthcare. Its the real company :)

I received a call from this number also, and they left a message for me to call back.   My caller ID said UnitedHealthCare, and when I called back, they announced themselves as a company that provides services for UHC.  It is NOT obvious that this is not a scam -- if I were to run such a scan, I would certainly answer calls by claiming I was such a company.  And caller ID's can be spoofed.  I called UHC afterwards, and they did confirm that the call was legit, but it still seems odd to me that they wanted my SSN.  I've been covered by UHC for years, so they should have had my SSN on file.

This is ligitimate. We were United Healthcare, now under Optum which provides services for United Healthcare.  We coordinate benefits between other commercial insurance and Medicare for all of our United Healthcare employer groups.  If we're calling to obtain OI (other insurance) info, is because there has been an indication on a claim that you may have other insurance.  If we call you, it is because the claim did not provide full or correct OI information.  We then call the other insurance to make sure benefits are coordinated correctly.  For example, if you have UHC and your SP has BCBS and you both cover one another on your plan, we call BCBS and determine which insurance pays first and second when a claim comes in.  If we call requesting your SSN/Medicare #, is so we can coordinate with Federal Medicare as to who pays first and second.  We call all members who are Medicare age that we do not currently have their Medicare Number, or are unable to find Medicare under their SSN.  Some members are also disability or ESRD entitled.  If a code on a claim indicates you may have one of these, we also call to verify.  In some cases, yes, we have your SSN, but sometimes your actual Medicare number may not be under your SSN, therefore we call to confirm if you have Medicare.  We also call groups to verify employee work status and group size.  These factors determine whether Medicare is primary or secondary.

I would proceed with caution.  I received a voice-mail from this number.  The person identified as being from the benefits coordination department with United Health Care. She left her number & extension, requesting a call back.  I was suspicious, so I called the number on the back of my insurance card & asked for the aforementioned department.  The person with whom I spoke at United Health Care confirmed that this was an illegitimate number calling me & there is no reason United Health Care would need to call me for benefits coordination at this time.  He also stated that this has been an ongoing issue as some individuals are misrepresenting themselves as working for United Health Care.  If in doubt, I'd suggest calling a reliable number to confirm.

This is a legitimate call and you may want to talk to them. Especially if you have any medical claims that are unresolved like I do.  The lady whose name is Elisabeth was very nice and very helpful and had important information that I needed.

I received an email and a phone call from this number stating from UHC coordination of benefits. I checked with UHC and this is not a legitimate number and a fraud.
DO NOT CALL THEM BACK!!!

It's legit - I confirmed with United Healthcare,..  I have access to bypass the regular call center so I'm sure others on this list haven't been so lucky and were told incorrect information.  For the record, I would never give my social or date of birth out over the phone to someone that called me...

It's Legit!  They were confirming some missing information with my United Healthcare account that would have come back to haunt me if it wasn't taken care of.  The call was a follow-up to mail I received a week earlier from United Healthcare.

Valid United Healthcare phone number. I called the number on my insurance card and they verified this call back number. If you call the number on your card, they can transfer you over to this department.

originally i received an email from the coordination of benefits dept, requesting info.  i called the number on the back of my insurance card and had them look into this for me and determined it is legit.  the company is optum and you will see "optum" on your card (mine shows optumRX for prescription coverage for example.  they are a part of the same umbrella of companies.

If this is really from or about United Healthcare, they have no reason to call me. I have NEVER had insurance from them.

My phone message did not include a name but provided different phone #'s: 1-888-200-1118 and a separate letter with questionnaire sent in the mail asked me to call 1-866-802-8560. It is very strange that Optum is contacting me approx. 2 years after a procedure to ask questions about my coverage.  After not being able to reach me by phone they sent a questionnaire that included questions such as was a police report filed and was injury due to animal bite or assault.   The letter also stated that if they do not hear from me within the next 20 days the will deny my claims due to lack of information.

Left number to call back with  therapy approved with a reference number and determination number as United Health Care but with a different number from the back of my card. I did visit my doctor for a knee injury last week but there was no referral or request from my doctor fro physical therapy. I called my doctor confirmed that therapy was not requested or needed. The call came to my wife's phone not mine with this information noted. Why it seems like a scam. Don't call them back or give them any information. Anyone car write on this site and claim it is legit and it would be the scam people. Why would I take my time to write this if it was ok.  Be warned

I called United Healthcare today and they didn't recognize this number, and I had not outstanding issues with my account that would have required a call.  They were calling my parents looking for my contact info.  United said my name isn't even associated with my parents account so they would have had no way of knowing I was their son.

BS, no legitimate company calls and asks for your SSN over the phone!!!  If this was truly a REP responding they would have left a real customer service number to call back to with questions in their response.

Just recieved call also  sounds like scam to me , i always recieve things like this in mail if related to health care claims ..

Left text saying I had done business with some MS company and now I owe money, gave me link to see my statement! NOT!! Scam for sure!!
