- AnonymousI am a "victum", too. Got a call just before Christmas with the pitch. Usually I just hang up but for some dumb reason I agreed to look at the info. Was promised a packet but never received it. Forgot about it over Christmas and now have had (2) $40 charges (in Jan and Feb). I called BOA and requested stop payment on the automatic payments and they provided me with the number listed here to resolve the issue. I just got off the phone with the company and they tried to get me to keep the insurance though I emphatically told them to cancel. They gave me a confirmation number of the cancellation. We'll see. We now live in an area where BOA is no longer convenient for us and are in the process of closing out our account. This is outrageous!
- Caller: BOA--company is Smart Start Insur
- Jennifer RossJust received mail from BOA that my checking account (which I never use) has been overdrawn.....$40 has been taken out of it twice now and it is going to "Smart Step Insurance".
I called 866-879-0179 (It's saturday so they are closed) and got a recording which started off by identifying themselves as "Charter Marketing Services".
I personally feel that BOA is responsible and should have done something about this fraud years ago. BOA did say they are affiliated with SSI.
Did file an electronics complaint with BOA who said they would not let any more deductions be made and also told me to phone the 866 #.
Will now go to BBB and file a complaint....and on Monday the poor person at BOA is going to get an earfull.
I am so MAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - anonymouswell here is a wopper! I don't even bank with B of A!! My information has been stolen and for 3 years now someone who has opened an account online with my info and has kept open a checking and savings account. I have JUST received info regarding an overdraft of $20 ( a few times) to my current address from B of A. I am currently investigating this issue- and so far these electronic withdraws have been linked to "smart step"- so basically a thief is being rip off by a thief! Boy!, I am glad I don't bank with Bank of America!! I really hope this all gets exposed!!
- Caller: Bank of America
- anewtonthey are doing this to me too 40 a month and only take it out when i have like 2 or 3 dollars in my boa account i don't know what the hell is going on but i am pissed and i am ready to sue
- ChuckVThey got me too- BofA is useless-They must be getting some kind of kick-back otherwise they'd be a bit more aggressive in stopping all this. I found out their official website is www.intersections.com and they do business under the following names: intersection ins., advantage care plus, smart step, chartered marketing--
If they don't give me back my money maybe i'll just try to get a hold of the VP, Ms. Diane Flanagan (847)797-8500 (according to the BBB) - Maybe she'll give it back. - Laura RiveraI been abuse from this insurense company taking from my checking account $20.00 as a customer from BOA I'm very anger. I will going to close my account as soon as posible.

- anonymouswhat?? they took 20 dollars from my checking account bank of america.
- Ewin WalkerI have had two serious surgeries and not been able to keep checking my bank statements.....also I trust BOA as I have had them for about 8 years or more. Now I am in the same position of all the complaints I am tonight finding on the computer. I am 78 , just had triple bypass, I am on a fixed small income and every penney counts for me to get by. What can I do to recover the money stolen fromn my account? Maybe there is a lawyer out there who has been robbed by these people and will post on the net a way that we can get our money and put these crooks out of business. I have no phone #s nor addresses or business names, no paper work of any kind, so any help from someone out there help me and all these others.
- RickIt seems this number belongs to Smart Step Insurance. They have been deducting $20.00 from my Bank of America checking account since April 08. These charges were unauthorized. It seems the only real solution is to close the bank account and open another one. The bank have to way of stopping online debit from a company. They have to enter the exact amount. So they can stop $20.00 this month but not the total balance next month.
- rol1988andI called to have this policy ($20/month) cancelled over 9 months ago and it never happened. Called back recently to cancel and the operator answered, "Bank of America" which confused me....I explained that I was trying to research a charge on my account and thought I was calling a company called Smart Step Ins. The operator said, "I'm sorry, you have the wrong number." Had I not seen this website, I would still be searching the internet for Smart Step!
I never received a packet when I supposedly enrolled in the program a year ago. I asked for another copy of the policy which they said would arrive in 7-10 business days in a BOA envelope.- Caller: Bank of America
- Elizabeth Ann Rossgot a call from the company wanting to get insurance, i told them no thanks, then is a few months they starting taking 20.00 dollers from my account, called them and only got a recording
- velvet GrantI'm definitely not sure of this debit from my account. I'm calling the bank first thing to get my money back.
- Violated bank customer866-879-0179 "National Union Fire Insurance Company" -I have received over a dozen calls from this company- usually the caller just hangs up when I ask for their name & number. The calling number is ALWAYS blocked. As many as 3-4 calls in one day over the last couple of months- I often recognize the caller's voice now. I am on the Do Not Call list & have registered a complaint. I have also called BOA customer service to make sure they are aware of the type of businesses they are allowing to damage their reputation & harass their customers.

- anonymouswhen these people call just say these exact words "please put me on your do- not-call-list, and I am not interested in any of your offers". the people that call you are telemarketers that are hired by a intermediary between the calling company and BOA. they basically do whatever they have to do conjur up sales with people they call, so if you're not very firm with them they will do anything they can to persuade you into thinking it's just a free trial, but in reality it will start deducting money out of your account every month until you call to cancel. If you say anything like "i dont want to be called again" or "take me off the list" they are actually obligated by BOA to NOT take you off the list because you need to say the words "Do Not Call List" in order for them to actually stop calling you. sadly I used to work at a place that called BOA customers trying to sell the Smart Step Plan, it's an extremely shady business and they get complaints/lawsuits all the time as far as I could tell.
- turtle08omg they did that to me too! takin $20 from me startin nov this yr and again just yesterday! but i called and filed theft report. no more answering calls from these horrible people.

- KaoThis has gone on for 18 months; I too thought it was just co-pay for the many doctors we've been seeing since my Dad got sick 2+ years ago. It's tough to know exactly legit bills because we've been juggling medical care between four siblings.

* Cancel by phone & get confirmation number to stop future charges ...but don't hang up just yet, also request "Refund Inquirey" and request "Proof of Enrollment" (audio CD will be mailed with recording of you agreeing -or not, to enroll) **Please note that if the audio recording of the predatory enrollment solicitation call does not have you explicitly saying "NO, I do not want to be enrolled..." they may use this against you because under their terms, a lack of a "NO" response is a default "YES" to authorize payment transaction using the account information already shared by BoA with them.
Also contact BoA to "OPT-OUT" from allowing the bank to share your personal information including but not limited to your account number to third party vendors such as this one.- Caller: Level A D Insurance
