This number has called me 4 times today. If this is a TCF bank number, why are they calling me? I have no account with them.

Calls from "Visa Fraud Prevention" started right after I made an online purchase from Ashampoo for their office suite. The download came from a 3rd party. I didn't trust them, so I hung up. I then called my bank to report the call.

TCF checked to see if my account was being verified, which it was. The customer service rep then put the verifiers on the line and monitored the discussion. I was asked to verify my zip code and birth date and nothing else. They then asked if I had made a purchase from a specific party in a specific amount. When I said yes, they were done.

So, while I don't like their method, for me this was a legitimate call. I feel that the information asked for was enough to verify my account, but not enough to help anyone take over my steal my account or steal my identity.

It certainly is the Visa Fraud protection line.  Any questionable transactions such transactions online or from shady locations are verified by a call from this number, do not be alarmed, they are only trying to help.

Totally legit. I bank with TCF, and they were verifying a large $ amount I charged for an event in another state.

Not sure about Gail, but the call itself is legit.  My birthday's coming up and I went on a spending spree today.  Got three phone calls from this number.  After reading the above comments, I called.  You don't have to enter the credit card number if you don't want.  I opted to speak to a representative.  They verified my transactions at the stores I literally just visited in the past two hours.  It's not a scam at all, an anti-scam, if you will, but I can see why people are hesitant.

This is 100% legitimate.  I called it back and pressed 0 to speak to a person.  She just asked for my birthday (she said the month first) verified my zip code and then told me that they were calling to confirm a transaction I had just made online. I was buying something from another country, so it threw up a red flag with Visa.  I did not give her any information that would lead her to steal anything from me. She knew the last four digits of my card and did not ask me to provide the other digits. She did not ask for my social. She did not ask for any identifying information whatsoever. She just verified my birthdate and my ZIP Code. Then proceeded to tell me what had happened on my account. If she was a scammer, she would not have known this information. All she wanted me to do was confirm or deny that I had made the purchase. TCF bank informed me that had I not called back, they would have canceled my card for fraudulent activity. Make the call, ask to speak with a person. It is definitely worth your time. This is not a scam.

It's legit. TCF transferred me to them  after asking them about it BUT they are super sketchy in how they do things. An obviously offshore call center person with broken English starts asking you all kinds of personal info before verifying a transaction. This is a terrible way to handle customer service and in my opinion just increases my chance of fraud by letting these low paid workers in other countries have access to my information. Considering changing banks due to this. These days most banks just use an app or text message alerts.

This number called me immediately after I made a transaction with my debit card.  They asked for my information "in order to verify recent activity on my account.  I google the number and everything on the first page said it was fraud.  It told me to call the number on the back of my card to verify the validity of the call, which is pretty clever on the scammer part since that statement alone would convince a lot of people.  They asked my zip code, and I purposely chose the wrong one.  They said it didn't match up with what their records, so i decided I wasn't getting any further and hung up.
