Hey Blackie! I like your thinking, but unfortunately THIS IS LEGIT!! It is HSBC calling. I agree, if a name does not come up don't answer. When they ask for your sixteen digit account number only a fool would respond. These companies are crazy. Most of them don't speak English and get very nasty.

These people call me 20 times a day it seems and from different numbers.  If I don't answer then you should leave a message so I know what you are calling for.  You don't leave a message than I'm not calling you back.  Guess what - I don't have any money to give you!!

These people call me ask for my wife, I tell them she is not home and they hang up,  not even a thank you or nothing

Keep calling all the time never leave a msg, when I return the call the recording says card services.

I am not behind on any credit card,and wish the calls to stop.

this number calls us seven days a week, several times a day from morning to evening.  At first it was the unknown caller without the number. I have now changed to a different carrier with the same ph # and it is now the same thing everyday except the caller ID shows HSBC 1-877-801-2498.  We have no bills nor account active with this company.

I looked it up, its an HSBC automated number that is trying to collect a debt. They don't leave a message though, and sometimes they call me even when im not in debt which is stupid.... and by the way, they called me 3 times today already and i got sick of it so i answered and thats what they said. I made a payment though, so it was basically their mistake of not looking over their system good enough. Its amazing how companies call constantly, never leave a message and then its not even your fault... stupid

1-877-801-2498   This is HSBC.  If you are one day behind paying your bill they start calling sometime 10 times a day and let it ring four times.  Hang up and call from another HSBC nymber.  I have lost my job, am paying what I can, got after someone who is really behind on their bills.  I would like to call some place that don't require to dial 1 for English and I would like to speak to some one who is American and can understand what the hell I am speaking about.  I just don't answer it no more, I have turned the ringer down low so it don't bother me.  If any of the family want to call me they can call on my cell

There is never anyone there, sometimes there is music. They call at all hours of the day, including weekends. This is getting really annoying.

Wow ~ I certainly understand from reading comments you all know what I've been through as well. I have some information that will hopefully help some if not all of these issues...at least it's a try right?  Okay - after many hours of extensive research try:
First) Never give them your home or cell number on any accounts to begin with - I use my work # they are not allowed to harass you there. If you already have and know that you're not going to be able to make your payment(try working with them - the ones that do will get my business once I'm back on my feet) go to their website and delete your cell/home # immediately or Second) Program their number(s)in your phone and set the ring tone to "no ring".
Third)Send/fax them this Cease & desist letter:

To Whom It May Concern:
  You are hereby notified to CEASE & DESIST in any and all attempts to collect the alleged debt by phone.  You may however, limit all communications to written correspondences only.  Any future calls by you or your collection agent(s), and or your representative(s) is construed as Malicious Harassment under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act Section 805-C [15 USC 1692C]

If they call you after that call 1-877-382-4357 and file a complaint with the FTC.
Don't be afraid to call the FTC if the calls continue. - PEACE & Sanity restored. Works for me ~ Good luck

WHEN THE FCC WILL START DOING SOMETHING? *WHEN" I GUESS THE FCC IS RECEIVEING ANY MONEY FROM THESE NUMBER. IF I MESS WITH MY PHONE AND START CALLING I KNOW THAT THE FCC WILL GET MY INFORMATION AND CHARGE ME. THE FCC COULD FOLLOW UP THIS INFORMATION OR THESE CALLER AND STOP THEM. I DON'T WANT TO THINK THAT THE FCC IS SITTING DOWN WITH THERE HAND CROSS JUST READING ALL KIND INFORMATION OF PEOPLE THAT THEY ARE TIRED. I BEING RECEIVING SO MUCH CALL IN ONE DAY FROM THE 877-801-2798. IF YOU CALL THIS NUMBER THEY DON'T ANSWER, GIVE YOU ANY INFORMATION. I CALL MY CELL COMPANY THEY ONLY STOP IT FOR THREE MONTH AND YOU HAVE FOLLOW-UP TO LET THEN KNOW TO BLOCK THE PHONE. PLEASE FCC LET'S THE PUBLIC KNOW WHAT ARE YOU DOING CONCERN ABOUT THIS ISSURE.

These calls begin at 8:20 a.m. and they call hourly up to 9:00 p.m.  They never leave a message and I no longer answer their calls.

Been receiving calls from this number.  Refuse to answer it when I dont know who is calling.

They call at 8:30 EVERY MORNING! They never leave a message.

These people are calling before 9 am on Sunday. No issue, we're early risers here. But Federal law is not observed by these third parties. If they don't stop it, I'll be forced to declare bankruptcy, which I'd like to avoid. But after several letters stating that my interest rate was being increased because I was paying down my card and trying to bring DOWN my credit ratio, they took steps to raise my minimum payment and interest, and close my accounts without an option for me to close them first.

Note that up until recently, I was paying at least the minimum on time, and not using the most of the cards at all.

Of course, this is stimulus money put to good use to get our banks back on their feet?

i get calls from this number several times a day.  no message.  nobody at the other end. i am registered with donotcall.org.
