I agree..when a number appears on my caller id with no name, I don't answer it.  9 times out of 10 it is a telemarketer.  If they can't put their name on the call, too bad for them.

I've been getting calls from this number for about 2 weeks.  No VM, and hang up when I pick up.  Tonight, they called at 5PM MDT.  I found the process here for removing my number, so I called it back.  The automated message says it's the National Rifle Association calling with updates and changes to your membership.  If you don't press "1" within 5 seconds of the message ending, it hangs up.  Funny, NRA, my membership lapsed last year, morons, and I told you why when you sent me your last letter.

I have caller id and a recorder. If it's a number I don't know I don't answer. If they want me that bad, leave a message and next time I might answer, if I want to talk. They can hold their breath on that one.

I understand the frustration but instead of venting on this site email the NRA it might make a difference for a lot of folks.

This is not the National Rifle Association.  It's a bill collector called the National Recovery Associates.  I've been a member of the National Rifle Association for several many years and they don't even call me unless I leave word for a call-back.

If the "Recovery" folks are calling your number, it's because they're looking for someone who owes money.  It could be you, a family member or someone who has used your address and telephone number for credit in the past.

You can file a customer complaint at "FCC.gov" if they become obnoxious.

    Not NRA replies to norbrian
It's not the NRA because if it was them it would come up as it's coming from Virginia, but it comes up as unknown. I really only know this due to I'm a NRA member and I get calls from them every now and then. So not NRA it's just some [***] that calls then hangs up.

I am getting these calls every day sometimes twice a day.  No answer ever left on machine.  From all the reports on various sites, it's an abuse and needs to have intervention.

The number is likely not the NRA itself, but belongs to whomever conducts the survey for them. They probably conduct surveys for other groups as well.

It is the nAtional Rifle Assoc.  I called the number back after weeks of calls.  You must enter 1 and 3 quickly in order to get removal request.  As others have said you enter your phone number and confirm..  I hope it works.

I believe the NRA is the National Recovery Agency - a debt collection/credit/charity telemarketer (not the National Rifle Association)

This is NOT a SCAM. I am a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association (NRA) so I called them. This is one of numbers used by their telemarketing call center. They are having technical issues which they are trying to resolve. The problem here is not the NRA but the technology that we all expect to operate flawlessly even when it is flawed. I certainly can appreciate an organization that works so hard to preserve our Constitutional rights even when the technology is failing us.
