- Wes PeltonI got a police report gave them all the numbers I had called went to my bank and they made good on my money since I was able to prove fraud. good luck to everyone and mine was on a debit card.

- StephanieSame thing as everybody else...$429.00 IDENTITY PROTECTION cahrge on my debit card. The only thing I can relate it to is that the charge happened only about 30 minutes after I updated my antivirus software subscription on my computer. The only site I used ny information was the McAfee Software website so there must be something there. I called my bank and they basically can do nothing until the charge actaully posts (right now it's only pending. Sucks because this actually my cash not a credit card.
- KTWe were also hit by this, my husband is deployed to Iraq, so when I saw the charge for Identity Protect come up on our online bank statement with USAA I called to see what it was. I was given the phone number and I googled it and found this page. We were only hit for $1.00, but they tried to get another $399.00 today using an insurance company name. I had transferred all but $50.00 out of the account last night, so it was denied. But the bad thing is, my husband is in Iraq, with no cash or debit card and he leaves for R&R in less than 10 days, which is longer than it would take to replace the card and send it to him. Seems to me the FBI, cops or someone could find these people if we can invade a whole country on the other side of the world, you would think some sumbag would be easy to find!
He used Amazon.com to send Xmas gifts and 1800Flowers to send Valentine's Day flowers. Other than that he only uses the PX on the FOB he is stationed at currently.- Caller: IDENTITY PROTECT
- Bill MarcusKat is possibly onto something, as I have been hit 5x times and used Shipstore.com before this started?
- VickiI've noticed on here and another site, Capital One cc's being mentioned. Some people have reported Capital One calling them to tell them their cards had been 'compromised' and cancelling the cards. I, too, have a couple of Capital One cards. While neither one has been hit with this bogus $429 Identity Protect charge (plus the earlier $1 charge from them when they, I assume, checked to see if the account was active), the debit/credit card I use to PAY those bills was! (March 19, 2008). I filed a report with the MO Atty General's Office. And my bank (who is reversing it, thank goodness!). And the local police.
Someone tried to illegally use my Paypal account about a year ago, too. (Goes through same bank.) Thank goodness Paypal alerted me about a 'suspicious charge'! Amazon...yes, I recently bought a couple of items from them. I shop eBay quite a bit, too. I do have USAA, but not a cc, just auto insurance.
There HAS to be a link somewhere...anyone have any ideas???? - DevinI too was hit on a capital one debit card and use Amazon, paypal, and newegg to buy mostly. What I thought might have happened was someone could have gotten my bank account information, and set up a paypal account with it, then withdrew my money. The customer service rep said it was a card charge though, so I canceled my card, but if this happens again, I'll know these a55holes are doing this another way.
I'm not going to use my card online anymore, when I need something I'll go get a prepaid debit card and use that instead. - MissyDesert Rat, I got slammed the exact same way, same amount $395.00 (on 3/18/08) and same United M Dical Dis. as well as the $1.00 showing ID Safe. I finally got through after 2 days of frequent calling. When I made the first call, all it said was, "Customer service" and told me to leave a message and to call during east coast time, but the number is out of NV! Second call, I got, "ID Safe" and again, call during east coast time....same mans voice on each message. Third call was, "Identification Protection Services", call east coast time, same voice. Finally, the next day, on a whim, I dialed again, 888-457-4304. wow, I got 'Greg' on the line, that answered, "hello?", I explained why I was calling, he said I signed up with a telemarketer, NO I DIDNT!, he said it was for ID theft protection....then why was it billed as medical supplies? His response was, ".....ummm...we sell medical supplies too." The F you do, buddy! I had already alerted my bank, this came out of my debit card, so all my scheduled bills bounced and it's reeked havoc on my life! I'm obsessed with finding out who, how and where can I find them!? I told this 'Greg' dude, I want a refund, (even though it's fraud and my card is cancelled, so whatever, I wanted to hear his response!) he said in 5-7 business days, and confirmation code I was given, after asking, was protect "07 volunteer refund". I finished the call, leaving 'Greg' to finish the tv show he was watching, I'm not kidding there! I have been online for 3 days solid, trying to figure out this thing. I called the Nevada states attorney, left a message (I'm in Washington state)asking if they can help me(us!) because the phone number is in NV. I am contacting the police and have already notified local media to get the word out. I have online banking so I found this out the very next morning it happened, lots of people wont see this till they receive their credit card statements or bank statements. Is there a common thread? I use Amazon,Ebay,Aeropostale,Paypal.....too many to think of. Also, there was a different 800 number for teh $1.00 debit, 800-865-1164, I called this one and reached merchant card services, the female agent there told me she has received over 100 calls regarding this situation just on her shift, and it's currently under investigation.

- DGRYah,
I had the same thing happen to me and the same card is on Amazon. My bank gave me the number 888-457-4304 but all there is, is an answering machine that gives business hours. - RyanCiti Cards called me today. They said they found fraud on my account. a $1.00 charge from a company called Identity Protect out of Reno Nevada. Immediately after the $1.00 charge was a $429.00 charge. Card reported stolen now (day before I go on vacation) and must wait a week for the new card! Citi Cards will take care of everything (including any finance charges) associated with this fraudulent transaction.
- BCCiti Mastercard.........one dollar charge first then $429........Lifelock as well
- Julie ThomasReceived a charge on Citi Premier Pass for $429.99.
Phone number was listed as 888-261-6045. We have paypal account, purchase from Ebay with Paypal, and use our card during vacations. I changed my MC account number, and reported the fraud. - CrystalHad a charge for 429.00 from "ID Safe" also. Does anyone know if the people responsible have been caught or charged yet, or how they and where they got the information from. They got my debit it card number and it seriously screwed up my bank account. Found out about the charge after a couple of checks bounced. I would appreciate any info anyone has. Thanks.
- Scott BeckstrandI just checked my card statement and found a $429 charge and two $1.00 charges from IDENTITY PROTECT. I tried calling the numbers listed on the charge statement and got a busy signal, a phone mail for Benefits USA, and another asking for account support information. SCAM!

- RonScammed again - $1.00 and $429.00 then $1.00 and $429.00 March 23rd and 24th 26th and 28th Cancelled card with Ciiti Bank -
- Caller: Indentity Protect
- rsame deal already charged me 2 times 429.00 trying to find a number to call them that is not busy or a town so I can report this to police. 888-261-6045 phone number on credit card statement
- DevinI believe having the call center there to give fake refunds and confirmation numbers for the refunds is merely a way for the company to prolong the dispute process and get their money regardless. If this person is scamming these cards, charging them, what's stopping them from using paypal accounts to do this? They could easily set up paypal accounts to retrieve the funds, and then move it into bank accounts or even a pre paid debit account like the ones at wal mart. This would make it harder to trace.
- DaveI just got my Chase card statement today and there waer the same fraudulent charges as noted before. Identity Protect to $1,$1 and $429. Then the United M Dical Discount for $395 twice. Called Chase and asked it they can block those 2 vendors as I'm sure they are responsible for many more charges. The woman I talked to said she would sent it up the line. Thanks for this forum for confirming my suspicions.
- Caller: United M Dical Discount
- SarahSame thing happened to me! Mine was listed as Identity Protection for 429.00 and there was a separate 1.00 charge! It is currently being disputed. The charges appeared on my Charter One checking account.
- jThey hit my credit card in early 2008 five times. National City Bank reversed the charges and issued a new card. They hit again on the new card on 6/4/08. ID Safe - $429.00! Never heard of this company. I did buy a camera in April with the new card - Broadway Photos - this company or other similar discount camera companies out of NY were mentioned in another blog.
Canceled the new card.
I hope they catch these ???!!!!
