    Someone with an unlisted number
    | 1 reply
    My number is on the federal "do not call" list and I'm going to start to record the date and time they call in order to file a formal request. Since I have a fully unlisted number, phone scammers don't know my name. In the most recent scam call, the caller identified himself as "Stephen Brown” but “Stephen” was again clueless about who he was calling.

    My boyfriend received a phone call yesterday from this company for Chase. It is a collection agency and they are very aggressive collectors.
    Their management informed my boyfriend that he needed to "take his girlfriends check book in order to pay them", which they did in fact admit to saying.
    Report this number to any where you can. They are harrassing and will belittle you. I ended up calling to complain because they told my boyfriend to take my check book and I was constantly being shot down by the management of this company while continually being cut off.

    I just got a call from a Steven Brown at this phone number and asked me to call him back. He provided no information as to what the call was about and it came up as "unavailable."  I had to google to find out more information. They are, as mentioned, Leading Edge Recovery Solutions.  It appears that they have been in trouble with the Illinois State Attorney office. If anyone gets these harassing calls, should report the company to the Illinois State Attorney General's office, the Federal Trade Commission and the Better Business Bureau.

    • Debt Collector Settles Abusive Practices Charges
    Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan has filed a lawsuit against a Chicago debt collection agency for allegedly using unfair tactics, intimidation and misrepresentations to convince consumers to make payments when, in some instances, the consumers never owed the money.

    The lawsuit names Leading Edge Recovery Solutions, L.L.C., as the defendant. Leading Edge Recovery Solutions, an Illinois limited liability corporation based in Chicago, collects debts on behalf of various entities, including credit card and installment debts.

    Madigan's Consumer Protection Division has received 53 complaints against Leading Edge Recovery Solutions. According to these complaints, consumers made payments ranging from $300.00 up to $2,900.00 and, in some instances, Leading Edge Recovery Solutions deducted payments directly from consumers' bank accounts without the consumers' authorization.

    "Based on the numerous consumer complaints that we have received, Leading Edge Recovery Solutions and its representatives have harassed and intimidated consumers in Illinois and throughout the United States to obtain payments on alleged debts," Madigan said.

    The lawsuit, filed in Cook County Circuit Court, alleges that Leading Edge Recovery Solutions has attempted to collect on debts that are as much as 20 years old and, in some cases, are not even owed by consumers. When consumers have responded to contacts from Leading Edge Recovery Solutions by requesting proof that they actually owe the debt, the company has failed to provide such proof.

    Madigan alleges that as part of its collection efforts, Leading Edge Recovery Solutions sent collection letters and contacted consumers by telephone, often using abusive language or improperly contacting consumers at their places of employment.

    The complaint specifically alleges that representatives of Leading Edge Recovery Solutions made numerous misrepresentations during their collection efforts, including:

    • That they are attorneys and that the company would file a lawsuit if the debt is not paid;

    • That the company would file a lien against the consumer's property if the debt is not paid;

    • That the consumer could be arrested or imprisoned for failing to pay the debt;

    • That the consumer's wages would be garnished if the debt was not paid; and

    • That the company would take other actions that would have an adverse impact on the consumer's credit report if the debt is not paid.

    Madigan's lawsuit asks the court to prohibit Leading Edge Recovery Solutions from engaging in the business of collecting or attempting to collect on debts, and from further violating Illinois' consumer protection laws. The lawsuit seeks civil penalties and requests that the court order Leading Edge Recovery Solutions to pay restitution to consumers.

    I get a call from this number but always a different person, Paul Black, Stephen Gray, Tim Brown, Somebody White... See the pattern?  The caller ID always says "out of area" so I just decided to listen today. The caller/recording said to press 1 or call back.  I chose to do neither.

    called on 08/28/09 left a message Jeremy Something or other.  The message was very garbled and a lot of noise in the backgroud, don't these people realize that people work from 7-6pm.. Then he called back again today, 08/29/09 and when I said hello, no one responded back to me.  So I called the number as I wanted to get that person to stop calling my UNLISTED number.  He answered and asked me if my name was Katarina and I said, he said my last 4 ss#, I said no it wasn't mine (though it was but he does not need to know that).  He said he was collecting a debt and I told him he had to speak with my debt settlement contact, he laughed and said I did not have one. I gave him the number and told him to speak with them as I am not allowed to speak with anyone from any collection agencies.  I have been in this program for 4 years now and never had any problems and I have 6 months to go to be debt free.  I told him to stop calling and he laughed again. He said that if the info I provided was not correct, that he would continue to call my house all day, every day.  I told him I would report him to the FTC, (which I just did) and again he laughed and then hung up the phone on me.  What a jerk!

    Harassing calls and I'm unlisted also. I have no debt, own no one a dime. I dont enjoy being threatened by a "Steven Brown" who knows zilch about me (including my name) or my finances. He uses an automated call, and wont reveal his true purpose for calling, because he's such a chicken [***] and he knows not only wrong and way out of line, he's just grasping at straws trying to get some poor person scared enough to pad his pockets by paying on a debt they never owed. Theres enough complaints, so why dosent anyone stop him ? I will be documenting the date and time , plus recording EVERY call from here on in and recording what any representitives say also. The more proof the better if we want to shut is pathetic [***] down for good.
