- Better Resolved| 1 replyI went into a panic when I saw all these blogs saying that this is a scam and I called Verizon using the *611. I was able to speak with a Verizon rep and she was more than concerned when I told her what it happened and what I was reading. She put me on hold and got her manager to see who and what the caller was. When she returned she explained that Verizon recently created a new department, "Customer Loyalty Dept." She explained that their efforts to increase our satisfaction with Verizon, they send out these courteousy calls based on the previous month's trend use. I asked why they would call if I was good on this month's minutes and texts. She explained that their system is about a billing period behind on any changes made to an account, and since I made my changes at the very end of my last cycle they had not received the updated data. So, it's not a scam and you shouldnt really look at your current use, you should look at your previous couple months use. I told her I didnt think it was very effective to be that behind on their info for a department that is supposed to help, and she agreed. She apologized for not knowing what this number was right away and that it is so new that many general customer service reps dont know either. With all the scams out there, it may be a legit number but with masking, it may make more sense to hang up and dial *611 to be safe.

- zabaduPer Verizon:
I'm sorry for the confusion and frustration with these messages. I understand why you would be concerned about this. Your phone certainly is not on track to receive overage charges. The best way to check this is by dialing #MIN to check your minutes, #DATA to check your text messaging and data usage. These will send free messages to your phone with the amount of usage that you have used for these services. Again, I'm sorry for the confusion on this.
As these messages appear to not be from Verizon Wireless, we are currently investigating spam messages to phones to make sure that this is stopped, as we do not support using our service in this way or unwarranted solicitations and spam messages to our customers. Again, I'm sorry for the confusion on this. - johnI'm also getting calls and texts from this number and I am following up by calling verizon.
- BarryDitto to all of your experiences, except the BBB can't do anything, and referred me to the Federal Trade Commission. Call them to report this and let's get rid of these jerks!!! Call 877-382-4357
- Jesusi got this call and ignored it. everyone else do the same!

- worriedi recently received a call from 888 453-1922 and when i answered the call it told me to please stay on the line... so i waited and a lady came on and told me i was reaching my limit of minutes. my plan includes unlimited minuets and texting . . . when i proceeded to tell the lady this the lane went to a dial tone and then the call ended, i am only concerned because i assumed that if it were legitimately Verizon then shouldn't they know that if they had my information open to inform me i was "reaching my limit"

- Concerned Verizon CustomerCall Verizon if you receive calls from this number and they will block the number so the fraudsters can no longer call you.
- Sarahit has called me 3 times today and it is so annoying...I do believe it is a scam...
- Caller: 888-453-1922
- AlThis is not a scam. I called *611 after receiving a fourth call and the rep I called the number in question. It is their loyalty department.
Again, NOT A SCAM.
(7:40 p.m. / 3-19-2009) - DuhDoes it seem silly that they would call to tell you you're about to go over your minutes. Um, yeah, if I wasn't talking to you on my cell phone maybe I wouldn't be going over my minutes! Gee, thanks for calling me to tell me I'm close to going over my limit.
- GaryI've gotten this call twice today with no message. For those that believe this is legitimate information from Verizon concerning usage patterns or other, I can confirm it is not. I just verified usage through the website (www.verizonwireless.com). I am within 10 days of the end of this billing cycle and I've used 30 minutes from a 700 minute plan, 25 out of 250 text messages and I have unlimited data usage. I am in no way, shape or form close to being over my monthly allotments. This is a phishing scam, plan and simple. As far as facebook phishing the number, I did start to run an app the other day that requested my cell phone number, but I canceled part way through the setup of the app because I didn't feel comfortable giving my cell number out. Perhaps I was too far along and it did snag it. If so, UGGGGH, I wish the malicious people would just go away.
- cyberkrimeThis IS Verizon Wireless. I called it and asked why they were calling me. I got Verizon customer service. They had detailed and exacting knowledge of my account, knowledge only Verizon and I have. They were calling to inform that my daughter was racking up data usage charges, so I asked them to block data access from her phone. It was easy. Nothing to be afraid of, no boggie man here. I hope this is helpful

- Staceyok...i got this call today. I didnt answer because I am on the Text/Data plan where i get unlimited text and data every month, but i have NO phone minutes. (i was also at work and am not able to use my phone during work hours) I have not made a single phone call on my phone since i got this plan...so if this was TRULEY about overages, why would they be calling me if im on an unlimited plan and i just paid my bill IN FULL 2 weeks ago? Plus verizon has ALWAYS sent me FREE text messages to alert me of anything regarding my account...even when i DID have minute on my plan, they still sent me texts, soo..i personally think its a scam, but i dont have the data to back up my claim...sorry guys.
- MikeThis is absolutely a SCAM!!!. The first thing they ask is your phone # and SSN. Now they have access to your account, and they WILL buy phones and have them charged to you.
Talked to the real Verizon security team, they are working to block the number to ALL Verizon subscribers. This has been an ongoing scam for over a year! - hightone"I went into a panic when I saw all these blogs saying that this is a scam and I called Verizon using the *611. [***] AGAIN!
These posts are obviously from the scammers themselves. As soon as you give them your phone number (why don't THEY have that - no caller ID??) and the last 4 digits of your social security number they can access your account and tell you "all the things you wanna hear." After you hang up they raid your account information and get your address, credit card info, full name, etc. - then hang on to your ass!
Report all calls from this number directly to the REAL Verizon security department at *611, 1, 0! - stacey (again)so after i made my first post on this page, i got a call from this number again within mins of posting above. I decided to answer and confront them on different points from previous posters that proves that its not verizon. I accidentally hung up while waiting for a rep. So i called the number back from my home phone. The first thing that tipped me off was that there was no hold time waiting for an "agent". Usually when i have to call Verizon, i have a 5 min+ wait time. A lady came on the phone..it sounded like she was picking up a phone with a handset..which is odd because people at verizon are in a CALL CENTER with headsets. She says "thank you for choosing to speak with an agent"...mmm...odd....usually its "thank you for calling verizon wireless". She asked for my cell phone number with the area code. I told her that before i give her that, i want to know why im being told im over on my mins when i have unlimited minutes/text/data. She says "i know we are having issues with our messages going out to all of our customers, even those on unlimited plans." then asked for my number again. I told her that i have another question first..how come i was asked to call this number instead of #611 like im normally asked to, and how come i got a phone call if i asked to be contacted by texts only, specially if this phone call would be the one to put me OVER my mins. She stumbled on her words and finally said "thats a good question." then started to say something and i cut her off and told her that i had been looking at some websites online that were saying that this number was a phishing scam.....dead silence..i told her to never call my number again and hung up. (then someone made a good point...how will they know what number to never call again, if i never gave her the number not to call...ugh!!! Next time...next time..hahaha) so i called #611 from my cell phone and was on the phone for 20 mins with a verizon agent(she was amazing btw). She said this is DEFINATLY not verizon. Do not answer this call. If you do, do NOT give them any information they ask for. If you have any questions regarding your account...call #611 from your phone. She blocked the number from calling my phone...yay!! best of luck to the rest of you.
- Caller: definatly NOT verizon
- PagsI have been getting calls from 888-453-1922 every day for the past week and ahalf. It is sooo annoying!!!!
- BradCalled Verizon (611) and they said it came from their loyalty department with special offers. I informed them to not call me anymore. They marked my account as "no solicitations". We'll see if that works.
