They cannot use the criminal justice system to collect the debt.  If you were being charged with a crime, you would hear from the District Attorney, and not a collections company.  Lastly, they would have to prove you walked into the payday loan establishment with the intent to defraud. How can they prove that?  When they called and were upset because I told them I would make payments and it was not acceptable, then they transferred me to a not so nice guy who threatened I'd be served at work, etc....

This is a SCAM!!! They called threatening to have me arrested on 2 felonies! The lady told me that they were a lawfirm, and not  a collection agency! I googled the number while on the phone with her, and told her that many people were saying that this agency is fraudulent! She told me I was lying, and that I didn't find that online. The entire time I was reading to her, the things that people were saying about this "business". She still denied that they are a scam, and told me that she can't wait until I am arrested. Then she hung up in my face. I called back, to have my numbers taken off their call list, and a man answered the phone, and told me that they are, in fact,  a collection agency! Then when I presented him with the facts I had seen online, he said he would see me in court, and that documents would be delivered to me within the next 24 hours! I told him that I highly doubt that, since I got a phone call identical to this one last year, and never heard anything else about it until now. They tried to tell me that I owed money for a payday loan, from 2009. I do not use payday loan services. I'm not sure how they got my name, number, and even the last 4 of my social, but they surely had it... I am trying to find out who I need to report these people to. If they are a legitimate collection agency, then I'm sure they are practicing unethical collections  efforts!

Total cam, these people keep calling my parents home phone, only because it public, leaving threatening messages talking about a bad check written in the county. I filed for bankruptcy in 2010 and included ALL my unsecured debt. ALL my debt was discharged. Sounds like these clowns are trying scare tactics to get money i don't owe out of my parents or me. How do i get them to stop calling my parents...they scare easy for no reason.... HELP!They also call from 1-888-266-1667.

UPDATE on Brown , Scott & Andrews. They have a wonderful facebook page now to attempt to show some sort of legitimacy. These morons are scammers. Most of the scams of this type are from out of the country, kudos to these guys for using actual English speaking individuals. Most of the time these come about due to the fact someone WAS foolish enough to agree to on online loanshark...I mean payday loan. This information...paid or not..seems to end up in these f**kers hands. Do not ever pay anything to anyone making the claims they are. The Payday loan that these individuals keep bringing up with me was not only paid in full, but the company involved stole more than $2,000 out of my bank account. Charges & case is pending investigation.

It looks like people are talking about 2 completely different entities here. The "law offices of Brown", phone number 209-812-2277 (and apparently several other numbers) ARE a scam! I've googles this phone number MANY, MANY times. This is a SCAM people! DO NOT PAY THEM! I reported all the information I could remember to the FTC and when I'm done with this post will be doing the same with the FBI as that's what I was told to do. These people like to claim that there are check frauds counts being filed against you , (they claimed 3 with me). It's [***]! They give the same [***] line to everybody. WAY too many people supposedly owe 465.00 and are given a deadline to pay. Funny that they also cannot provide any paperwork to be sent to you with these supposed charges. I asked, they couldn't provide it.

And to the [***] that said pay your bills and get a job. I have a job. I've been working since I was 15 years old! Get a life and stop trying to help these morons steal from innocent people! Ya flippin idiot!

I have been getting waged garnished for almost a year now from this company and my professional business license was suspended for 3 years and and wish I had the opportunity to be able to pay this company back for what they agreed to accept as an out of court arrangement back in the day. You two can do with what you want to do but I would settle anything that they are calling me about only because now I am charged with theft and fraud and have to deal with this garnishment for alot more than if I only settled out of court with them. If you do not know a company that is calling you and do not feel they are legit, then you can go to http://www.dos.state.ny.us/corps/bus_entity_search.html  and search their Business Entity Name at any time. If they are listed as a company doing business then they are a true and real company. The company name for which you two are complaining about is Brown, Andrews, and Scott llc they are a large firm based out of NY and use an attorney network to be able to file suit upon you in any state. I would also check your local and state criminal check fraud laws and that is what you could face if found guilty in your state under penal code 609 for check fraud. Do as you two wish but you will lose in the long run and then have them say I told you so. Good luck. Before you complain on this site for anything about an agency I would consider who and what I owe then pay it back. Payday loans are no joke when taken to court upon. You two will eventually find out as I believe both of you are ignoring the debt and them. This is no longer collections and if they have your case then they will eventually get you to pay. If it is with them or in the courts hands either way you will have to eventually pay their debts. Do the right thing and do research but do not hesitate to make an arrangement with them because they will file for suit and then you have no choice but to pay and it will be at a much higher price. Hope this helped the two of you out. If not they will see you in court eventually as it happened to me.

Why they still calling my job.

Received a second call today. Hadn't received one for a couple weeks after telling them off. Today they gave me the same line of crud and asked me if I was aware of it. I told him Yes, I am from the last time you called. Said,  I WILL have my attorney contact you as I know this to be a scam to steal money AND I have reported you to the FBI and the FTC. He all of a sudden couldn't hear me and kept saying hello, hello, then hung up. And Yes, I did report him to the FTC. After work I'm going to look into contacting the FBI and report to the FTC again with this new number. This is the second time they've called and a different number from last time. Last time they called from 209-812-2277.
