888 688 0709-Called on February 23 2018 at 7:24pm Calgary Alberta time zone.   Called back and it was a recording for the caller id.  EKOS Research from Ottawa.  Pretty sure they never called before.

They chewed up several minutes of my answering machine trying to get it to answer survey questions.  The only one I clearly heard asked whether I paid attention to the recent winter olympics.  The other noteworthy part I caught was "push 7 to remove your number" from their list.  I'm not sure I really believe that.

Ce qui est louche c'est que ce numéro 1-888-688-0709 est un Téléphone à partir des USA et que la compagnie qu'il dise représenter est soi-disant Canadienne.
ENGLISH: The person d'nt speak , but you have a robotic  message . If  you want speak with us please give your phone number after.... This call is coming from USA and the companu Ekos is Canadian in Canada. Attention it is very difficult to know if it is arnaque. Thank

please stop calling my home I cant rush to my phone I am just home from hospital with heart condition  I am so disturbed with all calls that don't interest me . JUST STOP CALLING  ME EKOS RESEARCH

Ok, a couple of things here, first, do you really expect that research company to see that post?  Even if they did, do you really think that they would know who you are in order to stop calling?  Perhaps you should train yourself to stop running to the phone every time it rings?

Well it's 2019 now and I just got the same call as you have mentioned in this thread "ECOS" survey about our government etc.

This number has called me 3x over the last few days.  Never leave a msg and when I answer they don't speak

Rang my phone twice when I couldn't answer, but didn't leave a message, which is standard procedure. I may answer if the next call comes at the right time and isn't too long, or I'll ask them to reschedule.

It's always good to show some respect to the people performing this hard surveying job. These companies may answer rudely because they're used to clueless, rude, and plain aggressive people who don't actually care to listen what the call is about.
Depending on the agent and the company policy, as long as THEY didn't state the client's name/company name/purpose of the call AND that YOU haven't confirmed to being a resident of the home 18+ (most often, a few surveys are open to minors), they will assume that you don't have all the information or the authority to make an informed decision on the call and will keep on calling.
Surveying is a hard job, costs clients big $ (political parties, that means YOUR money), and companies don't want a young prankster or pissed off guest to refuse in the name of a household that's not their own.

Yes, people, survey companies use what's called layered and random sampling (Secondary school curriculum). It's perfectly normal you may never have received a call from them, yes they are allowed to call cell phones, yes they are allowed as per "best practices" MRIA rules to call until 21:00 since it's not too late, no, they don't call on suppertime on purpose (just trying to reach people when they're most likely to be home), no, these companies didn't buy your number from a list (there are no such lists in Canada), they just dialed it semi-randomly within a given area code, and no, national DNC list doesn't apply to these companies, and never will. Funny to read so many stupid people not understanding what the DNC list is about.

my landline is not an invitation to call me anytime, anyday, for any reason, if i do not know you i do not answer, my phone tells me who is calling so i don't even get up to see, this is nuisance calls and will be blocked from here on in.

This number called my cell phone March 22, 2019 about 330 pm.  I picked up the call as I was waiting to hear from the hospital but the line went dead.  Annoying

Don't know who these people are and I don't want them calling me again.
