i just had a call from 01642224442, asking me for SEO & Web Design services, Some idiot at the end of the phone pretending to be a customer. I suspect it was competition comparing services + prices. What a [removed:lang].

The Number: Did you know that the free listing wont do anything for your business?

Me: Then take the listing down *phone down*.

Another listing company claiming to be page 1 of Google for everything they want to be - in this case London Accountants (they were page 2 for the keyword that was the same name as the website). As others, they wanted to walk you through it. Quite persistent.

Very offensive .. I know times are tough but this is not the way to gain business

Someone from this number tried to sell me a domain name which I could link to my website and generate loads of business.  Have learnt the hard way it doesn't work.

just had a call from them, iv been adding my website to some business directorys they called to check the details and also to see if i wnated any seo. hopefully they wont bother me again!

Keep getting phone calls from 01642224442,  after Googling the number and finding this site have let it go on voicemail. Within an hour I have 4 missed calls on business line from them, but not any message. Thanks everyone for the information about them. I wouldn't put your phone number on any free advertising websites, as they don't work, you pay for what you get.

I took a call from this company the other day from a person called Mark trying to sell myself a domain name and position on the first page of Google for the next 12 months. I was the transferred to one of his colleagues who was called Alex or Alec. He then went through his sales pitch which included yelling myself very proudly that this company are recommended by SAIF in their newsletter to all independent funeral directors.

All sounded very good, until I contacted SAIF and asked them if his claim was true. The answer very simply is no, and the person whom I spoke to advised myself their legal department would be in touch with Business Search Local.

I have to say that I find this disgusting and cannot urge others to keep away from this company enough.

Got called by this outfit, joined them and then was promptly called back by the same girl who was now working at a directory(i wont mention as they seem to quite a reputable national firm), she went on to tell me that she had left business search local after discovering the directors of this company are constantly upto no good smoking naughty things and their previous company name indica web (found on companies house as their previous name) was actually based on a form of cannabis or similar. She went on to say that she was sorry for what she made me purchase and they were told in training that this was a legitimate package of benefit, she claims she now realises after leaving that this was a scam and urged me to contact Barclays and do a charge claim on the card I have paid with, strangely she did not try and persuade me to buy off her new employer but was keen to see that i recovered the monies I have paid, to cut a long story short - yes I have been ripped off by business search local, I have cancelled the Direct Debit and Barclays are now in the process of re-claiming my money, i feature no where on any search engine even for the name that i bought off them which goes to a page which i do not recognise, i am told they are in financial trouble and again you can see this from their annual account returns that are located on companies house, trust your instinct and do not pay BUSINESS SEARCH LOCAL.

Just got a call from a company called dlh web consultancy i looked them up on companies house and it appears the director of this company is the director of business search local!!

I assume they have changed name cos of bad press, always do your research before spending your well earned money!

FINDINGS
of the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal
Constituted under the Solicitors Act 1974

An application was duly made on behalf of the Law Society by Robert Simon Roscoe,
solicitor and partner in Victor Lissack, Roscoe & Coleman solicitors of 70 Marylebone Lane,
London W1U 2PQ on 15th April 2005 that Mrs Elizabeth Rebecca Handley, solicitor of            *****
Acklam, Middlesbrough, might be required to answer the allegations contained in the
statement which accompanied the application and that such order might be made as the
Tribunal should think right.  The allegation was that the Respondent had been guilty of
conduct unbefitting a solicitor in that on 26th November 2004 at Durham Crown Court she
was convicted upon indictment of four counts of theft and four counts of false accounting for
which she was sentenced to three months imprisonment on each count concurrent and
ordered to pay £6,000 to Messrs Freers Solicitors.

The application was heard at the Court Room, 3rd Floor, Gate House, 1 Farringdon Street,
London, EC4M 7NS when Robert Simon Roscoe appeared as the Applicant.  The
Respondent did not appear and was not represented.

The evidence before the Tribunal included a letter addressed by the Respondent to the
Applicant, received by the Applicant on 8th May 2005, admitting the allegation.

At the conclusion of the hearing the Tribunal made the following order:-

The Tribunal orders that the Respondent, Elizabeth Rebecca Handley of Acklam,
Middlesborough, solicitor, be struck off the Roll of Solicitors and it further orders that she do
pay the costs of and incidental to this application and enquiry fixed in the sum of £1,576.90.
The facts are set out in paragraphs 1 to 9 hereunder:-

  1. The Respondent, born in 1974, was admitted as a solicitor in 1999.

  2. The Respondent (then Elizabeth Rebecca Mulligan) joined Messrs Freers Solicitors in        *****
July 1997 as a prospective trainee solicitor.  She completed her training and was
admitted as a solicitor in August 1999.  She was then employed as an assistant
solicitor by Freers until she moved to a new firm in May 2002.  During her
employment at Freers the Respondent had conduct of personal injury claim files.  The
subject matter of the criminal offences of which the Respondent was found guilty
arose on five of those files.

SOLICITOR JAILED FOR THEFT FROM EMPLOYER

A SOLICITOR who stole £9,600 from her employer was yesterday jailed for three months.

Elizabeth Rebecca Handley, better known in Teesside legal circles as Liza Mulligan, her  ****
maiden name, took the money to help meet £23,000 debts accrued as a student and on credit cards.

But Durham Crown Court heard that apart from losing her good name and job, Handley now faces being struck off by the solicitors' disciplinary tribunal.

Thirty-year-old Handley, of Turnpike Road, Sedgefield, County Durham, previously admitted four counts each of theft and false accounting.

It related to her diverting money paid in case costs to her employer, Middlesbrough law firm Freers, to the account of her husband, for whom she previously made a legitimate successful injury compensation claim.

Sums totalling £7,800 were paid to her husband's acc-ount, while a further amount of £1,836 which should have gone to Freers, was diverted to a client.

The matter came to light through the vigilance of a cashier at Freers after Handley left to join another Tees-side law firm, from where was subsequently dismissed.

Robin Denny, mitigating, told the court: "She was trying to dig herself out of trouble she got herself into, and not a question of greed."

Mr Denny said she subsequently worked for finance company Zurich, but lost that job last month when they found out about the case, but has since found a new job, and her employers are aware of the court appearance.

Jailing her, Judge Tony Lancaster said: "Your profession demands high standards of professionalism and proberty, which you failed to keep."

He said he would be failing in his public duty if he did not jail Handley, even if only for a short period.

Judge Lancaster ordered that £6,000 of her money held by Freers should be kept by the company.

Freers' solicitor and partner Paul Bryan said last night the firm will begin civil proceedings next week to recover the outstanding amount, plus interest and costs. He said: "We trained her, and she was with us for nearly five years, and trusted her as a friend, a colleague and a solicitor."

Company emailed us to say our web site isn't mobile phone compatible - they were lying as it has been made compatible some time ago - they just wanted a good sum of money from us offering a fake service.  Do not be taken in.

They have changed name and moved buildings, it seems like they are ringing customers that have cancelled with business search local DLH are then ringing them asking for business, pretty sly if you ask me!

Id stay away personally iv had dealings with business search local and il never go anywhere near that company or its new company ever again.

Was here for a short while, with the exception of a couple of people the whole place is a joke. Both my manager and other people spent more time smoking weed than they did selling SEO.

Stay well clear and keep your money safe from these jokers.

Cold called me regarding SEO and I accepted it. To be honest I've only found this review now but I've been with them a couple of months and I'm now page one ranked for my keyword and I've got a lot more business through it (my website includes a 'how did you find us' thing on the contact form and increase in people saying search engine) so I'm not really bothered. They're all really friendly and I'll be going to see them in the office soon to so I can discuss more buisness. Don't knock em till you try em, I say.

I was going to place an order with Alec Brown for the use of his companies service, i'm glad I thought I would look around now for positive and negative reviews about the company.

After reading this and other reviews I have decided against it.

Yes they do just smoke weed in their office or outside the office.

They used to be called "Indica web design"  for gods sake! (a type of marijuana)

They have also been trading under two other names in the past five years (I can't remember them at the moment) Gives you an indication of how well the reviews have been.

I left because I was dealing with complaints from clients when Alec would not deliver what was agreed.

Someone who has been scammed should report to trading standards. They are crooks who use cold calling techniques and  mAkee false claim people have issues with their website
