Have been getting repeated calls on my mobile and home phone from 'uk compensation' though the calls are clearly coming from an international number +00 00000000 and the callers have a poor grasp of English. It's driving us mad as it's constant and sometimes early in the morning when we are all still in bed!

I've had several calls from this number, but spaced out - not all in one day, like some here. It's impossible for this to be a real number, so is a cold-calling marketer or fraudster.

If you don't recognise it, don't answer it.
    • Caller: Don't know

I had a very similar experience but the number that called me was a bunch of zeros and ones. Does anyone have any info on this?

Never return a call from a number you do not know, could be an international scam that will charge you 100"s on the account

I get those calls they say don't call back ittney r from another and they make 1900 $ on your bill. If that is true than it is the phone company fault. They could stop this crazy thing.

I had a strange phone call at 6:44 pm on the 9th of February 2015.  When I picked up the phone and said "Hello" there was a sort of surprised gasping noise that sounded male and quite old. The caller didn't actually answer, he just hung up.  When 1471 was tried the voice said that I was called by 0 but 0 on its own is not a telephone number.  Possibly it was a burglar using a withheld number
    • Caller: No idea

I read that there was a scam going around where they plant a virus that locks the computer and puts up a screen "Call this number to unlock your computer".  I use an anti-virus program that updates itself daily to stop all these scams in their tracks.

The most amusing scam is the lady from Microsoft.  The most convincing version uses a young lady with a North American accent.  She says "Do you know that your computer is infected and is sending out viruses?"  She then asks the computer owner to visit a particular URL.  The web page turns out to be a download page for a program that allows for remote control of a computer.  Curiously it is not Microsoft Remote Assist which is already built-in to most versions of Windows.  Somehow I cannot really see Microsoft using third party programs so this pretty much confirms that it is a scam.  "Have you got the page?" the lady asks "Has it got a Download button on the right?"  I confirmed that it had so the lady says "PRESS DOWNLOAD NOW!"  "No" I replied " I don't think I really want to do that." The "lady" then goes ballistic and bangs down the phone.  Hell hath no fury like .......

Sometimes the scam is tried by men with Pakistani accents but anyone can spot that its a scam.

PS What they are trying to do is to plant key-loggers on ones computer in order to discover passwords. Allegedly there is a virus that hunts for Internet banking and its passwords.  According to the media some people have had their life savings stolen by this method.

Take care and don't put all your eggs in one basket!

Called and said I had problems with my computer, I had a virus which is interfering with it.....I let him go on and on,  eventually he got to the bit asking me to switch the computer on to remotely fix it,   I then told him that he thought I must be stupid,  and wanted to access my computer to scam me...which he denied, I then told him I don't have a computer and to f*** off!!!

    Poor Me
On Friday I met this Marco guy via online dating, working and living in London. He is American with an Italian name. On Sunday he tells me he is going to Dubai for a 3-week contract. On Monday he tries to call me via WhatsApp from his mobile but couldn't connect. He then says he will call from satellite phone, which shows on my phone as +0000000000000 !!! Now reading all the messages about this number, am I to be conned soon? No, I wont be sending any money to anyone...Technology killed the true romance :(

Keep getting calls from someone who claims to be from Microsoft and want to put security on my computer.  They do not know the meaning of NO.  They are very rude.
