- William ( in Ireland)| 1 replyGot a call today - expected a scam but went along for a while. Said they were from Kalle something from Seattle, US. Claimed I was still the beneficiary owner of shares in Pipex Communications (I sold these years ago) as the directors were being investigated for fraud.
They claimed to work for a client who wanted to buy my shares at between £7 and £12 in order to gain 51% acceptance of Pipex. Wouldn't listen to me explaining that I did not own the shares. Insisted that in due course they could prove that I was still the registered owner of 13,500 shares and would receive the offer for my shares (these were penny shares when I owned them and I sold out at about 3p).
I kept asking repeatedly what this would cost me but the caller who claimed to be Patrick Lee and kept calling me Mr William (William being my first name) stuck to his script and wouldn't elaborate. Eventually I just said I wasn't interested as I didn't own the shares and I hung up.
This seems like a typical 'advance fee' scam where I would have in due course and been strung along for various costs on the pretence that I was due to get £94,000+ for shares that I no longer own.- Caller: Kalle
- boink replies to katbabe1We were offered a purchase price of 8 to 15 pounds (to be confirmed) for shares which had already lost most of their value. They said it was a hostile takeover and had to be kept under wraps. Seemed a bit good to be true but we were momentarily sucked in by the fact they knew our details and the number of shares we owned etc.
After finding this website we spoke to the Financial Services Authority in the UK who confirmed that this is a SCAM and that the share information they hold is apparently available publicly.
It doesn't seem there is any charge for receiving the calls but eventually when they've told you how many thousands of pounds they can make you, they will then start talking about commission fees which they presumably want up front. - boink replies to William ( in Ireland)Crazy... We posted this at practically the same time. And guess what... the name of the supposed company was also Kalle and at some point we also spoke to Patrick Lee and he also called us by Mrs. followed by my first name...
- bota fogaI received a call from this number this evening they were talking about Shares.
- Caller: Not Sure

- Family ScottWe received a telephone call from this number this evening at 18:34 today (01.10.2012) claiming to be calling from Sky regarding an insurance policy on our Sky Box. They asked for a lot of personal details, which we did not give and then hung up.
- Caller: Claimed to be Sky TV
- norfolkgalSHARE SCAM.
I just had good old Patrick Lee from Philadelphia (he can hardly speak english) on the phone telling me I had a number of Cyberlink shares. When I said I didnt he said I must have forgotten about them - it often happens apparently when there is a takeover by another company :) Anyway, he went on to kindly offer to seek out these shares for me and guess what, buy some more on a share option offer!
I put the phone down. Disgusting they can try to scam people and elderly people may well fall for it, thinking their memory has faded. - GeorgieI just got a call on my landline at 9.50pm! I answered expecting it to be my pregnant sister saying she was going into labour... it was a lady with an accent that I couldn't quite place saying she wanted to talk about my shares in the Merchants Trust. I asked if she realised what time it was to which he replied "but I am calling from New York". She said again can we talk about your shares. I told her I didn't have any but she insists that she will call back tomorrow afternoon to discuss them further. It's quite blatantly a scam!
- Caller: Apparently the Merchants Trust plc.
- CMCHave been receiving around 5 calls a day from this number. Don't leave a message but caller display alerts me not to answer it.
- Maggie UK| 1 replyWe are being plagued with calls from this number. First time they rang they knew my name, then asked if we had made any claims on our Sky+ box in the last 12 months. I asked why they wanted to know and who they were. The young woman said she was calling from My Cover. I informed her that we were registered with the Telephone Preference Service and that she was breaking the law by calling me. She said that she would remove our number from their list. Since then we have received calls from this number at least twice every day. We can set a different ring tone on our phone depending on who is calling, ie, Family, Friends, Business, Junk Call. Any number cold calling gets saved in the Junk Call list so we can recognise it from the ring tone and don't bother to answer.
- Caller: My Cover
- Call type: Telemarketer
- Maggie UK replies to Maggie UKAnother call from them tonight at 19:24. This time he said his name was Sam and calling from My Cover. Reported these calls from My Cover to the TPS yesterday.
- SeandThis is a boiler room scam.
- Caller: Unknown
- Pink beeI was called by this number at 5.30 pm. I live in the uk. No one spoke then line went dead.
- DramThe caller claimed to be phoning from New York City. He said he represented a company called who were handling a buyout for Centrica. The buyer was offering an excellent deal on Centrica shares (c£4-5 more than the current trading Prudential Global price). I got bored halfway through his spiel and ended the call.
- Caller: Prudential Global
- Call type: Telemarketer
- russdorsetukBad line. Man with thick Indian accent re "client" wanting to buy shares in a company I hold shares in.
Have already been warned about this by company. All points to this being a "boiler room" share scam.
Do what I did and hang up on them.- Caller: did not say
- welshgaNumerous calls received from this number trying to buy shares or stocks promising big prices, having read your posts its probably a scam. Stated he was in Seattle working for a company named Stansell Corporate Services.
- Caller: Stansell Corporate Services
- Le'statThis number 0012102490540 has been traced back to there source and will be reported to sky.. as they claim to be able to reduce your monthly sky bill...this is NOT a sky contact number.. so DO NOT give them any info about your self or bank or credit card numbers.. it's just a con to get money from you and such act should be reported to the police..as what they are doing is a criminal offence.
- Caller: Unkown
- 1reggiejenkinsHeavily accented oriental gentleman with an english name, James something, offering to buy some shares off me for an indicative price of £5 each. The shares are a dog and trade on the open market for between 1 and 1 1/2 p and he is the seventh or eighth person to try to buy them. I followed one of the earlier ones through and the the con is that I would have to have sent best part of £10 grand to cover indemnity insurance which I would get back when the deal went through. But I was too smart for them, I sent them the money and then didnt sell the shares !
- ShadowShares scam, still insist on calling me even though after stringing them along for as long as I could stomach it, I then told them to eff off and that no one in their right mind would buy worthless shares at between £8 and £14 per share.. They had a great wee story that their client would be useing them as a tax dodge..
Think the twist is that they will ask you for money to release the shares. - <narkBeen offered a confirmed £15.89 per share for my shares in Cadbury. I had one gift share many years ago but now own 3,000 due to a 'forward split plan' that the company don't want me to know about.
Been stringing them along for a while, even signing and returning the NDA (minimal information). Today I received the contract confirming my £51,483 agreed sale price. All I need to do is forward them my insurance bond of £5,243.70 asap in order to be a part of the 51% they need to move forward with the hostile takeover.
I'm waiting for them to call me chasing the contract, at which point I'll tell them that I've not got the £5k right now as I'm waiting for my Nigerian uncle to pass me his share of the treasure he found and that 'I'm good for it'. Might also ask them to load me the £5k and instead of them taking 3% commission, they can take 10% for the trouble.
Checked out their different websites (bradfordsecuritiesllc.com and pacifictransfersintl.com) and they were both only created a few weeks ago.- Caller: Bradford Securities
- Brian| 1 replyWe're near Manchester, England. Some man with an Indian accent who had some sort of offer to buy my wife's Aviva shares. Would he know that she did have some? Very odd. I told him to call back tomorrow, but we'll make sure we don't answer next time!
