got a text for delivery is it a scam

same as everyone else, typed number on google and got this site. Very helpful.

Same text message received at 8.30 Sunday night - a scam - does anyone know the consequences yet?

exactly the same - called back from work and after seveal minutes (an believe it or not giving my mobile phin number agan!!) it all went dead. Definitely a scam.

Same as above. Number it came from was +447884443858

Calling at 10.30pm on a Sunday - definately scammers.

Received text from +447884443858 at 11.51pm Sunday titled !!URGENT!!. Texted back as I am expecting deliveries, but was suspicious about being requested to call a foreign number : 0043820899515, as delivery would be from a UK depot.
No reply to my text: contacting Orange to ensure no outrrageous charge made to my account.

Same message as above, came in at 22.01 from07900 543 784.

Obviously a scam.

It should be very simple for the phone companies to identify these scams there are large overseas charges to short call duration (nano seconds) maybe they don't want to?

unfortunately I tried to call them but there was no answer.i tried the mobile number it goes to voice mail i left message.it was voda phone.

is it some kind of scam?

Yeah I got exactly the same text message on Sunday 5 October 2008 at 6.18pm. I did call the number (as my partner's business is getting parcels from everywhere all the time) and got the answer phone message.
I Googled the number and came to this forum. BEWARE!

Same here, got the same message from the same number on sunday afternoon.

Got the same txt last night around 11pm but just ignored it as i thought its their job to call me and arrange whatever it is!

I also received this message last night Sunday, almost called it as I am awaiting a delivery but guess that if its that urgent they can call me! suspect a scam to be honest.

Received the 'Urgent  parcel awaiting delivery ' SMS from +447900544079 at 0645 am 06/10/08. Curious where they got my number from, good job its not Christmas!

I got the same text message and did call the number from my land land  - I also give my mobile number as requested - can they use that number to impose charges to my mobile phone bill or will they just charge for the call to the number?

Got same text last night, was susspicious but am expecting a delivery. called the number 0043820899515 (from land line) got a short ring then nothing called the vodaphone number+447884447315 got voice mail. called again later got cut off, texted it too! will report also to O2
