Got same text message as everyone else first thing this morning, and panicking as I was expecting communication from Sweden, I phoned. I dread to think how much will appear on our BT bill.

So how do they get the mobile numbers
?

Brian they do not get numbers they get computers to send missions of these text messages.  Pick the first 5 digits to select a valid UK mobile network, the next 6 (9,999,999 possible phone numbers for each network code block) are likley to be randomly sent texts.

Text enough people and some will be expecting a parcel, some will just be a bit naive, and hence will call, as this goes to an Austrian premium rate number, each call earns the scamemrs money on a per minute basis.  SO they either put on an answer phone message, or answer the call and keep you on the line for a bit.

So, it really is a numnbers game in more ways than one.

Like a previous post I am expecting a parcel from the USA bought on Ebay.

I got the text message 23:39 on Sunday night. But it looked suspicious . I left a message on the Vodafone number it came from.+447909642437

I had same message on 5/10/08. Urgent parcel delivery, suspected a scam but I am expecting a delivery from Holland but checked and they do not have my mobile number.. Msg was from +447909645364. Where do these b******s get your number ?

Yes same, text from +447909646337 asking me to call 0043820899515 to make arrangements for a parcel to be delivered. I take it it will have cost me to call the number, which I did. Anyone know what its all about and how much its gonna cost me?!

Found this site a little to late as I have been trying to call the number provided!!!!!! When you try to enter your mobile number it keeps getting it wrong. I can't wait to see how much this will cost me!!!!

a scam

I have recieved a call about this and have reported it our NCB dept and ICTIS, and i would like to thnak the gentleman whom brought this to our attention as his call may prevent a lot of people being fooled by this scam

Got same txt on 5 Oct 2008 16:16 from +447884443858.

I actually called the number (abroad) and had to choose option 1, then 2, then sth else at which point the line was cut off. Not sure how much I will get charged for this! I got firends all over the world and my birthday is approaching so I thought someone might want to surprise me :-(

Received a text saying urgent parcel awaiting delivery on 6th October.
Didn't reply as I was not expecting any such delivery. Who is sending these and exactly what do they get out of it?
