BBC1 this morning "You've been scammed". Director of Security from Microsoft. Quote:"Neither Microsoft nor its partners would ever cold call you.  It would be a breach of our privacy rules" We need to put this in banner headlines everywhere to stop this scam.

Just got a call from the subject number today (Nov. 22, 2011) from somebody explaining how to fix a Microsoft problem. Cut the caller off (Indian / Asian accent) after a minute, telling him to send me everything in writing.

Got one of these calls in Switzerland. An indian guy wanted me to log on to my PC saying I had serious virus problems on my PC. I challenged how he got my number and he hung up. I reported the incident to the police. Swappcare is the company name he quoted. They should be taken down for this scam.

    Mr. CH User
I have had a number of these calls, the last one today, and the pattern is the same as described above.
A caller phones (indian accent) with the (probably bogus) identity of 009999100152 and claims to be from "Windows Support Center" and states that there is a problem with my PC. To try and find out what web site they are using, I went as far as entering the URL www.support.me  which he gave but did not wat to go any further. Clear is that it is a site for remote access to PCs for maintenance purposes. What is not clear is if this is a legitimate sit being misused by these scammers or whether the whole construct (including the https://secure.logmeinrescue.com service which lies behind it) is bogus.
Anyway, since these are effectively nuisance calls, I am going to complain to my service provider Swisscom.

I have received several calls from this number. Speaks English, says he's from London but has an Indian accent. I pretended to do what he asked. That is, I pressed Windows-Key 'R' which brings up the RUN program in windows. Then he asked me to input "www.support.me" and press <ENTER>. But I know from Internet forums, that if you do this, they gain control of your PC: Then you really do need help. At this point, I told them I intended to make a police report and hung up.

Same here (Switzerland), although no chance to speak to them so far... I briefed my wife how to play with them a while - overseas calls might cause some costs, so the aim to stop this sh.. is to keep them connected as long as possible without any success.

Something like letting them tell their story and then say "... okay, please hang on, I need to watch the kids/the boiling water/whatever. Wait one or two minutes with occasional "just a moment more please". Repeat this as you pretend having no idea what computers are all about, letting them explain and explain again (let them loose their nerves)...

    Have fun :)
