Final post (you can tell I'm new to this)the number listed on the email I received from the Leeds office is 0113 205 2855 - which is different from previous posts.  To add to the saga, this was for an appointment at their Manchester office, for which no phone number has been provided.

Got several messages from these guys (Apollo) one claiming to be Chris Smith and the other Alex Smith - They are using false names and trying to manipulate you into a meeting. I asked several times "how do you make your money?" and they danced around the answer - they are scammers using pressure sales techniques by trying to exploit vulnerable people that may have lost their job for what ever reason by promising the world of opportunities. I asked what would be the cost implication to me and she said" it starts from as little as £2000!" Haha.. for writing your CV!

These con artists are now advertising on Ex Forces Recruitment sites. I received an email from someone called Sam Wright who's signature box said his name was Sam Smith. Asian accent so rang alarm bells. How low can someone get?

Still going on. Here is what I received today:

    Dear Mr. S*****

My Senior Consultant has asked me to contact you. He believes that he can assist you to secure your next position and would like to meet up to explore your current situation. I had wondered if you would be available to meet with him in the Reading office.

These guys are still active! I received this mail today & immediately set up a meeting but I just cancelled following some internet research tonight. It is hard to pinpoint the exact problem as they are very articulate in their mails, website and general presentation in particular how they use their terminology. To summarise they are a career management company and not a recruiter as they 'allude to' in the introductory mail,.The following article/link was hugely helpful to me as it addressed and confirmed my suspicions.

    Same story.

A red flag was the 'researcher' asking for a date of birth. There are not many recruiters who would sail that close to the wind in an age of discrimination claims.

The company itself is undercapitalised and showed a negative net worth on its last filing. Hardly a success endorsement...

Just had the same email. Should have twigged when the website produces a mcafee "Whoa, do you want to go there" flag. Like any of these unsolicited emails, Try googling it first where this thread was right at the top.

Thanks guys, and if you get one, bin it

I got several SMSes and an email today from a guy called Sam Wright from Apollo today too. He's been very consistent in trying to reach out to me, but I've never responded as his messages sound dodgy and not from a real recruitment agency. I'm just going to mark his email as Spam and hope never to be contacted again.

    Here's what he said:

    Dear Ms. *****
My Senior Consultant has asked me to contact you again. He is confident that he can assist you in exploring your career options with the aim of significantly enhancing your career prospects.
We specialise in assisting senior level candidates to overcome the barriers which are prevalent in today’s job market. We can help you identify your true value by developing innovative marketing techniques and identify companies where you are most likely to secure your next role.
I had wondered if you would be available this week to meet with him in the London office.

I haven't had a call yet, however, I received an email today from the infamous Sam Wright purporting to be from Apollo - it immediately struck me as not being legit so I googled the company and the guy's name - and bingo - I stumbled across this thread!  I received exactly the same standard email as the other would-be targets of these unscrupulous people.

    Email signature:
    " Sam Wright
    Business Partner
    Telephone: 0333 323 2112

    Email: sam.wright@apollo.eu.com

    Website: www.apollo-transitions.co.uk "

Fortunately, my experience as a lawyer has made me due diligence obsessed and my instinct picks up on red flags in a flash!  Be vigilant people and report scammers...

In case anyone else needs to be reminded

The ASA have already been on to these guys. Avoid.

They buy data on people who are possibly jobseeking and then use that to send out this spam.

Unlawful under the DPA as they dont have the consent of the people whose data they are processing, and also contrary to Section 22 of PECR, as they dont have consent to send electronic marketing information.

Report to the ICO and OFCOM

Apollo deceived me into thinking I was communicating with them in response to a real job opportunity only to to find it was a scam. The practice is wholly deceitful.

I've received exactly the same email as posted above, googled and came across this thread.  Does anyone know where they might have obtained our details?  I am registered on totaljobs.com - have they sold them on?  Alternatively, I applied for a role via totaljobs and wonder if the agency managing the vacancy have sold them on, as I've received a few other spamming emails relating to job seeking and CVs recently.
