Just received a call from this number, didn't answer as I don't know the number and they didn't leave a message. I am definitely in credit with BG so there should be no reason for the debt collection department to be calling me.

I received a call from this number the other day. My phone is always on answer m/c. If I don't recognise the number I let the calls go to answer m/c. If it's a local and anyone wants to talk to me they can leave a message.Seeing that number, and no message being left. I added it to the long "Blocked" list along with several British Gas numbers, (who have my details and can contact me through email). Nuisance calls are a menace.

I had a call from this number. Saying British gas wanted me to book my next service. Lucky for me I was on the ball. I said I book on line or British gas usually send me a letter. I have had a couple of calls from this number. Beware!!!

Just received a call from a guy called terry saying he was from British Gas services, wanting to book an appointment for our annual boiler service. Seemed very vague more interested in my holiday destinations, security questions were address and postcode. I asked for the next available date and he said he would ring back in 2 minutes, no call forthcoming.

Annoying 5 in a day

Could be a random dialler.

girl was very nippy when I said not interested and moaned I had not even gave her time to ask the questions. I have blocked the number from my landline

I've just found this thread after Googling 0113 298 9000. I had a call from this number last week.

The caller, a woman who had a very strong foreign accent, told me that my BG bill was overdue, and insisted that I must make a card payment there and then to avoid late payment charges. I realised that my bill was indeed overdue (due to the fact that I'd been away from home and it been overlooked), but refused to give the caller my card details and said that I would make an on-line payment. She said "No, that will take two working days to be credited to your account. You must make the payment now."

I still refused, saying that I never give out my card details to a total stranger who phones me. I ended the call, and called the BG helpline from another phone. I spoke to a very helpful man (who did not have a foreign accent) and made the payment over the phone.

Next day I checked my online account and saw that the balance was zero. At that point I phoned BG Complaints and told them the whole story. The person I spoke to checked my account and confirmed that the original call was indeed genuine, but that it was from BG's debt collection department. All their calls are routed through this phone number, but they can originate from anywhere in the world. My caller, apparently, was in South Africa!

He was very apologetic, and agreed that the call was handled very badly. Interestingly, when I told him that the caller had said that an online payment would not be credited immediately, his response was, "That was a lie!"

Even more interestingly, the BG website has a section called "Did we call you?", where customers can check if a call did come from British Gas.  The website does not recognise this number!

Did you check the number before ending your call with British Gas?         It is disturbing to hear that the checking system is falling down.

Its Britisg Gas. No wonder they keep loosing customers.They ring my mobile demanding money. So often I have written to them asking to send me a Final Bill. But no, they donn't do that. Instead they ask slaves in India to ring you. I just don't answer, and my voice mail is switched off. All that does not dter them. They keep coming.

It's absolutely not British Gas. I had the call demanding money for an outstanding bill but I just hung up. I called British Gas on their main number and the woman told me that I would never be phoned for an outstanding payment, whether it's £3 or £3000 as I'm on a direct debit plan. My account wasn't even in the red to begin with. Block the number.

Also, the woman said they'd only ever phone people on an 0800 number anyway!

Had a call from this number this morning. I let it go to answer machine but no message was left. I checked the number on British Gas "Did we call you". It said they could not locate the number. I never answer calls from numbers I don't recognise whether on my mobile or landline. If this is BG as some posts suggest then why doesn't their website recognise it. Maybe the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. Quite concerning but just ignore the calls & block if possible. Never get into conversation with them. Just hang up.

I have only had missed calls because I do not answer numbers I don't no if they want to talk to me they will leave a message.

this is not british gas,I have spoken to them the people who phone are saying your last payment did not go through and you need to pay or there will be bailiffs at your door.Total fraud..

Claim to be from British Gas debt collection,they will tell you that your last payment did not go through.will attempt to strong arm you [threats of bailiffs etc] if you do not pay at once.They are only after your monies.Please do not give them any information.I have spoken to British Gas,they are aware of the fraud.

01132989000 called claiming to be British Gas. Wanted to book my annual boiler service. Knew what type of boiler I had and asked me to confirm my postcode for security. Said he was just loading engineer's diary to make an appointment but had problems and would call again later. Was suspicious as I usually call to make an appointment and ours isn't due yet.
