A person rang me to say that I had corrupt files on my computer and my computer was sending error messages to Microsoft. If you ask me this is a dodgy phone call and they are after info from your computer.

Got a call from this number at 3.30am.  I could hear background noise then the line went dead.  The afternoon before I had a call from someone in Mumbai claiming to be from Microsoft, trying to sound very official and rather threatening, wanting to know if I was using a laptop or desktop - told him to get lost.  Hence the 3.30am call I presume.

Number is 01212447012, I called back and I got a dead line. After I called it back the person calling withheld the number, and also found out I was calling back to them.

Caller from 01212 (no further digits) asked for me by name, then rang off when told I wasn't in.

But 01212 on its own is not a vaiid phone no., so should not be given out by CLI or 1471.  Either someone's hacking the phone system to suppress their full no., or this idiot's phone company has made a bad error when setting up the line.

Answer machine received a call. Only sound was as if someone breathed once. whcih indicated that someone was listening. Otherwise silent. Rang 1471 and was given 012 124 345 290 as caller's number. (this was given in blocks of three)Tried to ring this back and the line was disconnected! The number is one digit longer than normal. We checked a few times in case we had misheard. Who is it?

recieved two calls from this number on different occasions.
the foreign sounding guy said his name was Nick, or Mike, and said he was calling from Microsoft and asked me to turn my computer on so he could talk me through some instructions. He said that my computer had a virus.
When I asked him how he got our telephone number he ignored the question, I had to ask him five times. He said that his company had done a survey and it came up that out computer had a virus.
I told him it was an inconvinient time and he gave me this number to call him back on: 01212 882802
I agree with you guys, its a dodgey call and Im glad I researched the number!!!

An Asian sounding woman (no surprise there then) rang me this afternoon claiming to be from Microsoft telling me my computer had been downloading hacking files.

This was obviously a dodgy call as why would someone from Microsoft be concerned about one person and their laptop possibly being susceptible to a virus. Especially considering just about every household in the world has at PC or laptop in it.

Anyway I told her I was very dubious that she actually worked for Microsoft and that if she gave me her number I would think about ringing her back. Which I obviously won't be doing.
She was going on about me opening my laptop so she could talk me through whatever it was she wanted me to do. Errrrrrrr, no your o.k thanks. The number she gave me was 01212882802.

I also get Asians ringing me from a company called British Consumers at least once a week who are rude and abrupt and hang up on you when you ask where they are calling from.

I registered with TPS and it helped cut down unwanted phonecalls however I still get harassed by foreign companies and con merchants. Why is this possible?

Various 'phone calls regarding Microsoft and "my" slow computer. Indian sounding people rang; when I asked for his name he said "Chester" (sounds like a character out of an old TV episode of "Gun Smoke"!!)  I said I was busy, and asked for his 'phone number...to my surprise he gave me one it was 01212882802 (same number others have been given) I googled the number and it came up in relationship to a PC maintenace firm. I then googled and went to the following web site:

    http://www.microsoft.com/security/online-privacy/msname.aspx

This site explains what MICROSOFT does and doesn't do. They frown upon firms that handle there products and services cold calling and appearing to be anything directly connected to Microsoft. In my opinon
AVOID ACCESSING YOUR PC WHILE ON THE 'PHONE WITH FIRMS WANTING YOU TO OPEN UP YOUR PC TO THEM.

Just got a call from this mob on 02030262785.

Indian chap who advised that I had corrupt files on my PC and the situation could be drastic.

Apparently not a virus, but files which will destroy my PC.

I asked a few questions and it evident that this is  a scam and the guy isn;t that computer literate.

He advised that it was a window issue and I told him I have a IMAC. End of Call

Got a call from 01212. He, in a very foreign accent, tried to sell me a new phone line by telling me that BT were charging me too much. As I'm not with BT I put the phone down. 10 seconds later I get the same man calling from 061399992817 trying to get me to change phone provider. I just put the phone down and let him talk to the air. He gave up after a couple of minutes.

Had a message left yesterday(27/07/2011) on ansaphone from a chinese-sounding guy who said he was from "CFS" calling about my company. Said I should call 01212 01178.
Looked on Applegate to see what area the prefix was from but none listed. Googled the number and found this site. Probably another scam

Today I got a call from 01212882872 today saying I have a cheque to come to me for £5000 pounds,
as my bank had overcharged me for account fees ect; "Oh, I said that's nice".
Then the man asked me in order to get the cheque delivered, I needed to get a U-Cash voucher from my local shop for £100 to cover admin and delivery costs.
I asked him what company he was calling from? He said it was the Inland Revenue and Customs.
I said to him to take the £100 out of the 5 grand,
"No, it does not work like that".
I told him I did not have the £100 at present. and is he taking the piss,
    THIS IS DEFINATELY A SCAM.
