Calls at 3.30am, 6.30 etc and at the weekend as well, totally out of order, how do I stop it?!?

I've been getting these calls on at off at work for a few months now.  It must be done through some specialist software as if you ring the number from 2 phones at the same time the call still gets answered.

They're probably using ranges of numbers and don't care where the call ends up.

It's a shame nobody has a fax that's been sent from them.  The best thing would be to cut a roll of wallpaper down to A4 width and then just fax them that!

Call comes in at 3:45 am which is quite stressful as my wife's mom is in and out of hospital so at that time fo the morning you expect the worst.  Secondly my wife has to get up for work at 4:30 am, so can't really go back to sleep. I am fairly sure but not psitive that it is illegal to make unsolicitored phone calls at that time of the day.

Getting fed up with them.

Ofcom are interested to know about others experiencing problems with this number. Will only act if a lot of people complain.

Called at 3.29am - If this happens again I will report it to BT and it will be sorted!

I keep getting calls from thsi number and it is from Xlcr Car Finance who are local to me.

On their website there is a freephone number 08000 833 711 that will cost them money if you ring it. I rang it and it did ask say that your number will be taken off their listings if you key it in as they are on the fax preference listing facility.

Everyone ring their freephone number and block it up it will cost them a bomb plus you can get taken off their listings hopfully.

All the best in getting rid of this total nuisance.

They called me at 2.30am.  Barstewards !  Get a life and stop using crap marketing techniques.  Has anyone ever bought their product or service after such a call ?  The fax suggestion is an interesting option.

The following is information I got from another website and have called the company and requested that I be taken off their list. Let's see if it works..

Over half a dozen calls, so far, usually between 1.30am and 5am - Fax spam. No point in getting upset about it; it's just greed. If being a public nuisance is profitable, why should they care? Many calls over the last few weeks, including in the small hours this morning.  Sounds like a fax machine.

I contacted the company (XCLR car finance) who gave me the following response:-

"Thank you for your email.  The number does belong to us and I can arrange for your number to be supressed from our database so that you receive no more calls.  
I have looked at this forum and others like it before but its contributors never seem to point out that there is a ton of legislation in your favour to prevent unwanted nuisance type calls.  
Quite simply your number was subscribed with us by a business which presumably has since ceased trading.  This number will then no doubt have been reallocated by the telephone company, however we would have no way of knowing that unless someone lets us know like you have done today.
Now we have been informed we will immediately surpress your number but to stop your number being used by all the other fax marketers, all you need do is visit www.fpsonline.org.uk
Its free and marketers like us have a duty to subscribe to their service and update our lists accordingly.  The information commissioners office take a very strict approach to marketers that ignore their responsibilities and they have the power to fine offenders heavilly and so I hope you can understand that we don’t wish to cause nuisance or harm and are just a legitimate business operating within the law which will do everything within its power to ensure you are not disturbed in the future."

I checked into it and it turns out there really is loads of legal protection to stop this happenning.  I spoke to the information commissioners office and they confirm that this is just a company that is operating within the law.  They are just trying to make a living by marketing to valid subscribers and after checking with BT my number was previously allocated to a business.

All you need to do is unsubscribe on line which is free and the problem will go away.  Also note there are two websites TPS & FPS and you need to subscribe to both.

This company is huge. Hundreds of fax lines and all their faxes are computerised and on screen so despite what some of the muppets on this site say, if you fax them back it costs them nothing because they don't print them!!  So just do yourselves a favour... subscribe to be removed...it worked for me... if it doesn't work report them to the informations commissioners office and they'll get screwed.  

Thanks for telling me who it was but after contacting them direct the matter was resolved and so if it really bothers you, help yourself using the info above.

As for whether fax marketing works, who knows but I looked at this companies accounts and they are worth millions so I guess the answer is yes, but ask yourself this...if you were in business and someone asked you to fax them with your information with a view to buying off you, would you do it?  Of course you would.  I am self employed and know how tough it is out there and so providing these guys are operating within the law and knowing what I know now, just add your details on line so you aren't bothered again and then leave them to it.
