Had a card myself; nothing sinister, just a debt collection agency trying to contact someone who does not believe in paying what they owe.

It's certainly not a scam and I imagine that  they have a fairly low opinion of those who try to evade legitimate companies efforts to collect their debts.

All the positive comments about Wilcot and debt collectors are obviously written by the companies themselves.

Don't call the number and give out any information about yourself. They are purely a phishing activity.

It certainly is a scam. If they had stipulated a legitimate reason for sending unsolicited mail to our addresses then they would receive fair comments on this site.

However, since each postcard has the same generic tripe then that defines it's self to be spam. As a result, they deserve every ounce of bad press they receive here.

Personally, as being registered on the MPS, then this 'legitimate' company will be being reported for the offence committed.

If the company had knowledge of a debtor, to which I am not, then they would be more wise in targeting their debtor on the postcard; thus allowing us to bin it straight away in the knowledge that they have an incorrect address, and leave it up to them to chase up their debtor and not us.

I have just rec'd a postcard to 'The Occupier' asking to call Chris. Was going to put straight in the green box but then thought to search net for tel no on there. I didn't see address (such a tiny print) and because of the printed text I though it might be some way of making money if you phone the number.
I have no debts (except mortgage) so could be for someone living here before or someone having used the address. They must know name so should put that on there. With other letters in various people's name I have Returned To Sender. I'm still in two minds as to whether to phone but def glad I checked the net.

    and again, 'Please call Chris'.

My advice, cross out your address, and put return to sender. This will cost them and hopefully teach them as well.

    Hi
Me too....I received a postcard asking me to 'Please call Alice on 01482 380689 with a reference'

I'm not that stupid.  They have obviously bought a bad debt which is unenforceable in law as it is statute barred.  This business is lucrative to them.  They may buy a bad debt of say £5,000 for as little as £50.  They then send threatening letters, and other letters offering a 90% discount in the amount payable but just ignore them.  They have no legal right to obtain any monies from you.  The only problem occurs if you were to phone them and acknowledge the debt.  From that moment on you are liable through the courts to the full amount now owed to them.  DO NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THEIR CORRESPONDENCE AND DO NOT AGREE EVEN TO PAY £1 PER MONTH.  Without acknowledgement of the debt, they have no legal right over you.

Got a card this morning saying 'please call Andy' + Ref. Nº  My immediate suspicions were that it was a scam - if they really had something to say they would have known my name & not addressed the card to the Occupier.  Having found this site I realise my suspicions were correct & will be returning the card to them as 'Unsolicited Mail' & hope they have to pay the return postage!

This sort of practice should be illegal - there may be many older vulnerable people that are not so wised-up to this method of communication & may well be worried or frightened if they answer the scam & told they have debts.

Just had card addressed to 'The Occupier' through the door. Says 'Please call Ben' and a reference number.

I have just moved in but I know the previous tenant left big debt on the gas bill so maybe it is to do with that. Anyway, I have no debts whatsoever so, now I know this comany is a debt collection/phishing agency, the card is going straight in the bin.

Good to find this out though - thanks to the other people who have posted.

I called them today, did not give any of my details to see if the printed message and reference was generic but the reference is specific to my address and the person they are pursuing was a former tenant of my property and is being pursude by many other companies.

So they have removed address as contact point as it is no longer rented to them - would be better if teh companies given credit and such actually takes the time to vet the individuals after a year of informing Barclays I was staggered and took action against them when i discovered they had increased the overdraft linit for a russioan that was no loner atthat address - got £200 cheque for my threats to expose so was some good news so now do the same with all other banks an finance house !

Just recieved one of these cards today, asking to call Luke.  The same as the others on these pages, it was addressed to the occupier.  Trouble is, we live in a block of 9 flats, and it's only addressed to the block number, and not an individual flat.  Postie could have dropped it in any of the other eight letter boxes.  If they knew the owner of the 'debt', then they'd know their name and their correct address! If it looks like spam, and smells like spam, its spam.
