LOL i got a telling off saying anything addressed to Owner Occupier you do not call. Then he explained to me about this company .

    One lesson learnt.

Got one of these from Westcot Data. Another try on. If they knew I was here, they would send a proper letter. Debt is probably Stat Barred anyway. Filed under "B" for bin - recyle and save the planet !! Sorry Westcot, try the next person on your long long list of debtors.

I got the same thing today in Leeds, told the boyfriend under NO circumstances should he ring them up. If it was a real debt call they wouldn't put To The Occupier! They'd actually have the name of the person. I'm not wasting my money and time calling them. If there are supposed people who owe debts at this address, then they can come here instead! I reckon they do it so that when people call up and give out their sirnames, they can find people with the same sirname and work out if they are relatives of, or whatever.

Chuck it in your bin and don't waste your time.

Yes, it's Westcot debt collectors. A card asking please call 01482 380689 (that's Hull dialling code) has an imprint in mininscule type saying 2F is a trading name of Westcot Credit Services, and giving a registered office (in Saltcoats, Ayshire). I just had a card thru letter box today told me to call some [***] called Ruby on 01482 380689 ref : XXXXXXX   XXX.
I googled them it seems they are linked to terrorists in Nigeria and Jamaica , its quite possible RUBY is codename for Terrorist jargon. I have contacted the British Homeland Security , they told me they will look into it.

If you get a card from these TERRORISTS , do not get involved , if you do you could be liable for conspiracy for Terrorism , REMEMBER those charged could be deported to USA for further trials and possible Death penalty , if they suspect you are linked to AL-QAEDA ZION Terrorism .

I want to help you all , please DESTROY THE CARD , shred it or burn the card in a bonfire , do not recycle it as someone could recover it from your re-cycle box and incriminate you.

Peace , love , and Prosperity to you all.

I am a lawyer , you are under no obligation to pay if you dont give your personal details , if the letter/Card is addressed to The Occupier. If you owe any company money or are in debt and they don't know your name or details and you cannot afford it DO NOT PAY.

They have no legal right to obtain any monies from you.  The only problem occurs if you were to phone them and acknowledge the debt.  From that moment on you are liable through the courts to the full amount now owed to them.  DO NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THEIR CORRESPONDENCE AND DO NOT AGREE EVEN TO PAY AS LITTLE AS £1 PER MONTH.  Without acknowledgment of the debt, they have no legal right over you.

Please DO NOT give your name and address to them , best thing is bin the card/letter.

WHAT WESCOT CREDIT SERVICES ARE DOING IS ILLEGAL!!!

I found this on another site which I found useful:

    1. Talk about total disregard for the OFT.

    2 UNFAIR BUSINESS PRACTICES
    Communication
2.1 It is unfair to communicate, in whatever form, with consumers in an unclear,
    inaccurate or misleading manner.
2.2 Examples of unfair practices are as follows:
    a. use of official looking documents intended or likely to mislead
debtors as to their status, for example, documents made to resemble court
    claims.
    b. leaving out or presenting information in such a way that it
creates a false or misleading impression or exploits debtors'
    lack of knowledge
    c. those contacting debtors not making clear who they are, who
they work for, what their role is, what the purpose of the
    contact is
Not to mention the Fraud Act 2006:

    2 Fraud by false representation

    (1) A person is in breach of this section if he—
    (a) dishonestly makes a false representation, and
    (b) intends, by making the representation—
    (i) to make a gain for himself or another, or
(ii) to cause loss to another or to expose another to a risk of loss.
    (2) A representation is false if—
    (a) it is untrue or misleading, and
    (b) the person making it knows that it is, or might be, untrue or misleading.
    (3) “Representation” means any representation as to fact or law, including a representation as to the state of mind of—
    (a) the person making the representation, or
    (b) any other person.
    (4) A representation may be express or implied.
    (5) For the purposes of this section a representation may be regarded as made if it (or anything implying it) is submitted in any form to any system or device designed to receive, convey or respond to communications (with or without human intervention).
3 Fraud by failing to disclose information

A person is in breach of this section if he—
    (a) dishonestly fails to disclose to another person information which he is under a legal duty to disclose, and
    (b) intends, by failing to disclose the information—
    (i) to make a gain for himself or another, or
(ii) to cause loss to another or to expose another to a risk of loss.

Rab is basically correct. If these lowlifes are chasing you for UNSECURED debt, tell them to take you to Court. They purchase your debt for pennies in the pound, and attempt to scare you into paying the whole amount back. They have no powers, whatever they tell you, and however threatening the letters they send you. All they can do is take you to Court. This is highly unlikely, as they have to pay Court fees up front. Why throw good money after bad? In fact,I've never found a single case of any DCA (Debt Collection Agency) doing this in my 5 years as an advisor at Citizens Advice . And if they did, YOU tell the Court what you can afford, Not what the DCA demands. The threat of Bailiffs, Attachment Orders etc are hollow. As I've advised on previous sites, there are many Companies doing this now. Westcot Credit Services Ltd, Moorcroft Deby Recovery Limited, Hillside Services Ltd,Cabot,Credit Solutions, Fire, Churchwood, Clarity, Lowell, etc etc........ mostly passing the same debt around to each other in the hope you are frightened into thinking you are in serious trouble. You're not. I'm not saying that you shouldn't pay your debts. But make these parasites an offer of maybe 50% off the original debt. If they won't take it, tell them to take you to Court. Don't ever be intimidated by these people. Your health and family come first. Not the DCA's.

I received one of these today and I have to say we have had official letters from them before for, I am guessing, the previous tenant. All I can think is they are doing their job and trying to get in contact with whoever has left the debt. We do know the previous tenant for our address has debts with about 4 different companies. Goodness knows how much the owed but I do know we keep receiving letters that talk about threatening action. I am waiting for debt collectors to come round so I can say I am not the person you are after, show them my ID and send them off on their merry way. Fed up of all this now.

Like many of the above posters, I too have also received a postcard addressed to the occupier and asking them to call Bob on 01482 380689 with a reference number.  Needless to say, I didn't phone them as I have already settled my own debts and am generally suspicious of anything addressed to the occupier.  I'm so glad that I doubled checked with this website first before binning the postcard.  Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to report on this company's shameless activities.

Nothing sinister! Just called them, gave the reference number from the card, they named a person, asked if I know him or how to contact him, I said no (god knows who lived here before us, we just moved in to this rented property), they said thanks and sorry to bother. End of story. Just never give them any of your own details.

What a load of rubbish! They don't collect debts owed to THEM, they are ambulance chasers, playing a lottery, hoping to scare people into paying THEM debts they actually owed to SOMEBODY ELSE!! In most cases the original debt has already been written off by the company the person actually had a LEGAL CONTRACT with!! These people make their living on other people's financial misery, and they should be burned out and run out of town. It's a scam. When the BANKS get into trouble, it's business as usual, but when individuals get in over their heads, it's time to call in the Debt Collecting Mafia.

    Throw it away. It's garbage.

LOL "Malooks" post on this forum made me burst out laughing. I got one of the cards today and decided to research Wescot. After I found out who they were I witheld my number and gave them a bell. I spoke to the guy and told him that I got a card. He asked for the ref number and I read it out to him. It came up with my address on the computer. He then asked me if I was the person they are looking for. I told him no as the person moved out of the house that I moved in to. He never asked for my name and I never offered it. He asked me if I know where Mr ***** had moved to but I have no idea. I get loads of mail to my address from different companies for Mr ***** and thought that he may have not settled his debts before he left this property. The guy at Wescot then said thanks for calling and we can now remove your address from our database.
If I ever get another card from Wescot after they have said I am removed from their database, i'll post again on this forum. PEOPLE... life is too short to worry about being afraid like "Malooks." LOL. Just research what ever comes your way before you call or do anything. Enjoy your life whether you are in debt or not.
