Well i got a couple of calls from this no. initially thought it was someone important trying to get hold of me, then again, and then another no. 020 8861 8682, this really did get on my nerves, so after a bit of web surfing, found one of their mobile and office no.s, see how they like being called when they are busy, about something completely pointless.

Still going on even after all this time. There are new laws about this starting soon I think. Calls with no-one there will mean fines for those who do it.

Just for the record I missed a call from 01502 573387 today, but I cancelled it, as I was in a meeting with my MD.

I have around 60 missed calls from 0208 and about 6 from 01502, all since last wednesday. I wish they would just take the hint.

"This number called me and said they were doing a survey on television."

You probably should have done it. If it's the one I think it was, if you fit the right profile you'd have got over £120 for doing next to nothing.

Our calls are not pointless. Opinion polls are important for the smooth running of the country and a large number of surveys are either government surveys or offer a cash incentive. Two examples:

    1. We did a survey when the government wanted to bring in the congestion charge in manchester. The polls showed that the overwelming majority of people were against it. Quickly afterwards the scheme was dropped.

    2. We run a television polls for the British Audience Research Board. People who are selected get £120 a year just for having a little box installed to measure their TV viewing habits. That's how television companies know which of their programs are most popular, and they pay big money to find that out.

So next time you rant and rave at the person on the other end of the phone, first take the time to consider that what they are doing may be of great benefit -- to the general population and maybe even to you personally.

This is accurate. I'm afraid the nature of the beast is, unfortunately, some calls of this type will happen. However, we are limited by law to an incredibly small fraction of such calls, so it is incredibly unlikely you will get more than one of those in a given period. Obviously we wouldn't expect you to pick up the phone when you're in a meeting, and we understand that. We also understand that such this can be annoying, but we are doing an important job and we really do appreciate people who take the time out to give us their views.

One missed call around 9.30am this morning, also a missed call last night from an 0208 number - believe it is Market Research company MORI.

I believe you can add yourself to their internal "do not call" list by checking their website.

Ipsos Mori treat people like s**t, the employ loads of people then fire them by the handful when they don't need them any more, with no prior warning, they repeat "studies" that don't yeild the results their "client" (which is always a government source) does not want to see, and the "deputy manager ANDY in the lowestoft call centre sh*gs all of the little 16 year old girls, what a loser! Ipsos Mori - run by scum to convince other scum that their opinion has any relevence to the elite that dominates their tiny pathetic lives.

there is a big difference between marketing and market research. but if you try to explain that to a respondent they've usually lost the plot by then and wont listen because they're too busy freaking out and twatting themself in the face with their phone. the simple words "I am not interested" will get you off the system and you wont be hassled again. but if that little bit of logic is simply too much to fathom then I think cold calls are the least of your worries!
