Received a call from 01582630014 yesterday twice, morning and evening. Didn't bother to answer either call.  Having now read all the comments, I'm pleased I ignored them.

GfK NOP Are a genuine market research company!
This is how to deal with a market research company such as GfK NOP.
1).  Be polite.  Stay calm.
2).  Ex-Directory.  Some surveys use random digit dialing. This is standard amongst market research as well as direct marketing companies.  Your number was dialed at random.  Try asking the interviewer about this.  They will explain.
3).  Asking for you by name.  Your name and number were provided by a company whom you already deal with.  In this instance and for data protection reasons, the interviewer can only speak to the named respondent.  They cannot speak to a spouse or partner.  They cannot give any information to a spouse or partner.  This includes telling you whom the survey is on behalf of.
4).  All surveys are voluntary and are conducted at your convenience.  It would be very kind of you to take part.  If you would not like to take part immediately, then ask them to call back at a certain time and date.  If they don't already know your name then your first name will be sufficient.
5).  If for some reason, you do not wish to take part.  Politely tell the interviewer that you do not wish to take part in the survey.  Politely ask them not to call again and you will be removed from the database.  Hanging up will result in a follow-up call.  This is known as a soft call back.  You will continue to get these, if you hang up.
6).  Silent calls.  These are caused by a predictive dialer.  The computer dials numbers, but if there are insufficient interviewers to conduct interviews.  Then the call is abandoned.  There are regulations about how many abandoned calls a call center can produce.
7).  Anonymity.  Some companies ask for surveys to be done anonymously.  Let me assure you that your details will also remain anonymous.  They receive the details of the survey in the form of statistical analysis. If your details are to be passed back then your permission will be sought by the interviewer.  There are times that GfK will ask to keep your details to conduct a follow-up interview.  Some projects are on-going.  Again, your details will not be given to the client.

If you complain about Market research companies calling you.  Then don't complain that your mobile phone company doesn't know what you want.  Or that your bank doesn't listen to you.

I just had a call from GFKNOP but not the above numbers.  The number on 1471 was 0207 8909053.  The number the caller gave me to contact was 0500 396 9999.  The caller told me it was market research and that they obtained numbers by taking a sample of telephone numbers from the telephone book and then swapping the last digit with a random number.  That explains why people who are ex directory receive these calls.  

I've sent a message to GFKNOP via their contact us page on their website asking them to remove my phone number and not contact me again.

In response to the GFK NOP interviewer post above I'd say that if I have a strong opinion on a service or product, I contact the organisation direct.  All organisations have feedback forms.  They also monitor the number of complaints they receive.  Or they should be monitoring and following up complaints as these are the best feedback any company can have because these are from people who really care about the service.  Cold calling joe bloggs out of the blue is not going to enamour anyone to market research as a concept.  It's an invasion of privacy.  The other point of note is that companies pay good money for market research information.  Why should someone else be paid for my time?

What you are talking about is random digit dialing.  You can ask the interviewer to explain this to you.  You can also ask the interviewer to remove you from their database.

have had calls all week and credit gone from my payg phone topped up ten pounds and three taken before i made a call !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Called me at 9 this evening, disturbed the whole house.......... invasion of my privacy!

0207 number but apparently based in India!! I have just had a call too at 9pm this evening.... random digit dialing apparently! If i wanted to talk to someone at 9 in the evening, it wouldn't be someone who can barely speak the english language, bothering me about market research!!!!!
IDIOTS!!!!

Caller identified company as GFKNOP - called my unlisted number after 8PM - Persisted even after I told them to take my number off their list - claimed they were not regulated or bound by United States "No Call" regulations. Supervisor identified herself as "Angela Sanders" -

Number now being used by Trust Money whoever they are trying to advise me of a new government scheme. Said not interested lets see if they call back.
