I've just received a letter from Homeserve (cover introduced by Santander) stating that Homeserve cannot collect from my Santander direct debit. Well I don't ever recall setting up/agreeing to this Homes Insurance cover. This after many anonymous calls over the last few weeks. Santander/Homeserve say that I made such an agreement when I was at their branch setting up my current account with Santander (post Abbey National).

Now Homeserve say they'll send to me a CD with my voice consent of this agreement. Apparently this was supposed to be £1 for the first 3 months or so, then automatically default to the monthly direct debit. I've got no need for this service as I'm in the building/property management biz and can do many domestic repairs/maintenance myself. This looks like dodgy practice by either Santander or Homeserve (are they conspiring?). So please note and continue be very wary of this tactic.

The letter heading....well its actually shown at the base of their letter in very small print is: Homeserve Membership Ltd, Cable Drive, Walsall, West Midlands, WS2 7BN. They've go this telephone no. 0800 783 0951 (calls maybe monitored and recorded for training purposes).....therein I suspect lies the secret of this dodgy business. Apparently I'm "not currently benefiting from the peace of mind HomeServe cover can bring"..........well there's some heavy irony in that statement......right?!!

Have a great Easter break.....the best value insurance out there!

    Cheers!

HomeServe - Rather than agree to anyhing over the phone, I requested they send me details by post.  The young man wouldn't send me anything until I'd confirmed my Card Details!!!  Not likely!  I know this was definitely HomeServe calling, because I recognised he number, but still, I'm not giving my card details to anyone just to have them send info by post!  When will these companies learn that people don't want to give their card details at the drop of a hat?

I have received no end of calls from 01922 420057 (Homeserve) and have finally got through to someone who seems to be able to help, if reluctantly at first.  Call 0800 247999 and hit option 4.  You then go through to the sales centre.  Tell them that you are calling in order to have your number removed from their cold calling list and that you would like to speak to a supervisor to ensure it gets done.  DO NOT BE FOBBED OFF, INSIST ON SPEAKING TO A SUPERVISER, I spoke to Jane Carson.  You will have to give out details of the number that's being called and your address "for security purposes", but do not worry about this, remember that the purpose of your call is to be removed from their list of numbers, so you're only giving it out to get through to the right person.

Jane explained to me that the way they work is by undertaking what they call "campaigns" of cold calling.  Each campaign lasts 6 weeks where they, and other companies to whom they outsource to do the dialling for them, call potential customers from various lists of numbers they acquire.  Jane stated that she would email the relevant people within the company to ensure my number was taken off all future campaigns, but could do nothing about any campaigns that were currently underway, so I may still get calls until the current campaign was completed.

Jane was helpful and divulged more information than I had obtained on previous calls, however I said I was not satisfied at having to endure up to a further 6 weeks of cold calls from them and that there must be a way of taking my number out of the current campaign, so asked to speak to her manager, whose name Jane said was Fiona Garner.

After approx 5 mins on hold, Jane came back on the line and said that she had been told it WAS possible to get my name off the current campaign too, but it would take 72 hours (which she clarified as 3 working days).  Well well, fancy that!!  She claimed not to have known that previously, so I got her to confirm that this is what she would now be telling all future complainants, and not the 6 week fob-off story.

I asked Jane to copy me in on the email she sends to get my number off the list which, bless her, she has done.  The email address she sent her email request to was HGBOutsourceSuppressions@homeserve.com and hers is jane.carson@homeserve.com from the signature block on her email, she shows her direct dial number as 01922 606096.

I've also received confirmation from a Samantha Dye at a company called Voice Marketing in Sheffield that my number has been removed.   Clearly this is one of the companies that Homeserve has outsourced the cold calling to.  Contact details in case anyone needs them are:

    Samantha.Dye@voicegroup.co.uk
    0114 321 0000

If this doesn't stop the cold calling I'm not sure what will, but fingers crossed this helps all of you out there stop this company cold calling you once and for all.

The last piece of the jigsaw would be to establish how these people got my number in the first place, but I think this might be a bit tricky.  Might require a bit of research into what the Data Protection Act compels them to reveal.....

Will post again in a few days time to advise whether I've had any more cold calls from Homeserve, i.e. whether my conversation with Jane has had the desired effect.

I was just called by a dodgy sounding man claiming to be Santander and asking me to confirm the first line of my address before he’d tell me why he was calling.  I refused to give him any details and he got off the phone.  Having checked with Santander, they say this is not one of their recognised numbers.

So, if you get a call from 01922420057 then ignore it, and definitely don’t give out any details.

this number keeps ringing us - doesn't leave message. we have received calls every day from various numbers - 01536 461163  01536 526054 07833405323  019220420057  as we work, the numbers are displayed on our missed calls.  why do they keep ringing.  I called one of the numbers back last night and the guy said that he hadn't called me and that he was just a member of the public and didn't have anything to do with UPS.  If you put any of these numbers into google, they all show UPS as the contact. Don't know how they can use people's numbers like that.  TOTAL PAIN IN THE BUTT

These called me today and told me they were calling from Santander and that I had my mortgage with them.  That's a bit worrying that it might not be them.  When I asked the reason for the call they wouldn't tell me and then hung up when I asked to speak to his boss.

My parents received a call on 7th May from this number saying they were calling from Santander regarding their account, asking them to confirm address and first name details.  Obviously no details were given as alarm bells rang as they do not have accounts with Santander.
