- Caller: BCW

- Son Nick| 2 repliesFrom what I can gather it's a debt collection agency. they've called twice this morning and I haven't answered. I only have a landline installed for my broadband, all my friends and family know to call my mobile. i never deal with debt collection agencies over the phone, on the odd occasion I've had someone on the phone from a DCA I refuse to disclose details over the phone and tell them to send me a letter... funnily enough the letter never arrives!
- Caller: BCW I think.

will teach you how to deal with this "low life", - beckymissed a call from this number this morning, after reading other peoples comments saying this was Buchanan Clark Wells, i remembered receiving a letter from them about 6 months ago demanding money from me on behalf of some credit card company that I've never heard of. I've never had a credit card, loan or anything of that sort so the debt is not mine, so i ignored the letter and will ignore any future calls.

- Cynthia replies to Brian| 1 replyYes it is Buchanan Clark & Wells, We are in a dispute with Npower over a boiler they installed which we are not happy with as it is rubbish. npower sold us a new boiler on the promise that it would be amazing compared to our old boiler which at the time needed repairing. Npower's engineers who installed the boiler told us what a bad company npower were and that they are selling these boilers which are crap. We thought they were typical employee moaners but it turned out to be all true. Anyway we did not pay the balance to npower and now they are chasing us for payment through Buchanan Clark & Wells. Last night we received a call from this number wanting the first line of our address etc etc, same as you Brian, it was very unpleasant, this is intimidatory tactics but I'm not sure what they are trying to achieve because we are prepared to be taken to court by Npower so that we may put our case against npower and why we are not paying. Anybody got any advice?
- ana replies to mathewthey are calling me everyday too!!
I am not answering , i think that some scam calls. Do not answer!!! - Jim replies to CynthiaYes it is Buchanan Clark & Wells. Debt collectors for nPower amongst others.
Stick to you guns Cynthia. Although do seek legal advice from someone like the CAB. nPower, and their sales team are the scum of the earth. My wife who has various disabilities answered the door to one of their scummy salesman, who basically saw an opportunity to get her to sign up for anything and everything. I am going through court proceedings with them at the moment and my solicitor say we should win hands down and get compensation for the stress it has caused my wife. - Big GAs reported already they are a debt colletion agency used by in my case E.ON. If you owe money to someone like a utility company the bill will never go away, never go down. Pay up as soon as you can no matter how hard up you may think you are. If you can't pay all in one go, call the utility company and get something sorted. Otherwise, you run the risk of having an application made for a Warrant of Entry where the utility company will visit you with the right to either fit a prepayment meter or disconnect your supply. That would cost you £250 plus what you owe. It could get to be a very expensive exercise indeed. In my case I owed less than £100. However, always try to keep on top of your bills so as to avoid these types of companies getting into contact with you.

- TintinDebt collectors normally on behalf of Capitol One, when someone asks you 'to comfirm your details' this is a yes or no answer : ie they tell you, you agree or disagree with what they say. You are, afterall giving them to a stranger on the phone, and all you are doing is protecting yourself from some stranger having your details for whatever purpose they choose
- Paid upScots woman called from them clearly saying they were "BCW for British Gas"; but as they asked for personal details (which I wouldn't give), she offered to give me a number to call. When I said why shouldn't I use the number printed on the bills she said "they'll just refer you to us". She didn't say she was a debt collector, but it certainly seemed like one.
I called British Gas (on the number on the bill) directly and all was already in order. They said these were a "Reminder Company" who call customers up and remind them about their bill!- Caller: BCW

- AnnieWe keep getting calls on a fax line that we have never given to anyone so don't know how or where they got it. If it is a cold call they are in breach of telephone preference service. We don't and have never had debts with either British Gas or Capital One.
How are you supposed to stop these charlatans who don't play by the rules?- Caller: British Gas/ Debt Collector/ Capital One
- AnnieOK after a bit of digging I confirmed this is a number forBuchanan Clark & Wells (BCW Group) http://www.bcwgroup.com/. I called them on 0141 221 4567 where the operator tried to fob me off by asking me to call their call centre. I insisted I wanted to speak to a senior manager and one called me back within the hour. Once I spoke to him I was able to confirm that they were looking for someone totally unknown to us so they have a wrong number. I have informed them that if I get another silent call I will be reporting it to OFCOM http://consumers.ofcom.org.uk/tell-us/ and the telephone preference service.
I advised them I would be posting their details here and that if they continue this practice they will be getting a lot more complaints.
May I suggest that if you have received similar calls you take the same steps as I have?
