Phone call from this number, but no one there.  It's a bank holiday so leave me in peace please!  After reading previous comments, I won't answer it if they ring again. I am supposed t be TPR registered.

    Had a call today.
Asian sounding but spoke English as if reading from a script. Apparently I have a computer virus in my files  & was I near my computer. I put phone down and ignored his questions .. He finally ended the call. I have reported the number to Action Fraud which is the police online for this sort of thing.

If you are a Sky customer you CAN ask them to block all marketing calls from them. I threatened to terminate my business with them unless they did so. Haven't had any other calls besides industrial deafness calls. I am also ex- directory. I ask where they got my name. & number from and ask them politely to remove me from their list.
When you get your electoral forms check what you are signing for. The council sends them to "selected business offers".

It's not TPS that's the problem. It's those choosing deliberately not to comply with the laws and regulations.

Totally agree, I just keep them rambling on for as long as I can get out of them.  If you start letting them get to you, they win - I almost look forward to the next one to see what I can take them for.

Just had a call from 02031291891 and  I answered with my company name and it went dead! - if I answer with my actual name theygco on about "conducting a survey" and evade answering my "where did you get my number?".0
I looked up the "octopus data" clue, that someone left and noticed their number was "0161 826 1688" and cover various markets like "solar power" (familiar to anyone?) . I wonder whether my service provider supports "selective call forwarding" then I could automate the process of putting them both in touch.

Have had numerous calls from this number. I answered it today and they wanted to know if we had an accident. I said yes my husband, so an asian sounding chap put me through to his manager. I then blew a whistle down the phone, they then called me back three times, but left no messages.  I guess he didn't like the whistle! I hope this works.

You know it baffles me.  This website alone must have hundreds if not thousands of instances of nuisance coming from this number (020 3129 1891) and its been reported down official channels. So with this information to hand, surely at least it must be possible to pull the plug on this number.  Are they really paying the bill?  It must be enormous! – how are they financing it?  And if they are ripping off the service, then surely the service provider should be driven to get their money back.  And finally, isn’t it possible, given we know the number for it to be traced back to the point of origin?  With the IT technology we have today, I can’t believe more can’t be done.  Rant over :0).

Just got a call from this number, it was someone with an Asian accent who started to say he was calling in regard to an car accident I have had, so I put the phone down as 1) have not had an accident, 2) they would ask for you by name if genuine, 3) I am ex-directory, 4) I knew straight away it was a scam.
I once asked a caller how they got our number as we are ex-directory and they said they just work their way through an area code and numbers and call each one.

Unfortunately, the thing which allows them to get away with it is that the number is fake.  The calls are from overseas using fake UK numbers so are almost impossible to trace.  If you did stop one they would just start up another.  There are even some companies in the UK which sell these numbers and one would think they could be stopped.  Perhaps there is just not the will to do so.  The 020 numbers are particularly popular but numbers from most places in the UK are also spoofed.  The callers often use Skype or VOIP which is, of course, free so call costs are not an issue.   Like so many other things it is down to individuals to  take their own steps to stop these calls.  A Call Blocker can be bought from Amazon or Argos for around £40 and I have the BT6500 'phone which is extremely effective. The more people who take these steps the less calls will get through and we may eventually make it uneconomical for theme to continue.  Well, we can dream!

Cheers Nan,  some interesting points.  But as the call has to traverse the network, is there no monitoring can be put in exchanges or what ever which recognise black listed numbers as they pass through.  We can do it with tint devices like a BT6500, so why not move the filtering/protection back one stage up the line to the exchange/network?  You can tell I don't have a background in IT!!

Silent calls from these shisters, should be reported to ofcom (yes the toothless government owned quango) I just tried to return their call, you get an automated message saying that the service cannot be connected , if that's really the case then how TF  can they call out??? If they call late at night they will get told to go f*ck their selves

That makes two of us!  No doubt someone with an alphabet after his/her name could explain why it can't be done.  However, like you. I feel that a lot more could be done to stop these calls.  Of course, the Government say we need telephone selling to help the economy, but I suppose their calls are all filtered!  Till someone gets their finger out I am quite happy with my BT6500 'phone.

If you read my post higher up the page you will see that the call is from a fake UK number and is coming from Overseas.  As the number does not exist as a normal number would, they can call you but you can't call back.
