- Call type: Non-profit organization
- RoyMy wife had a doorstep call from someone representing the Battersea Dogs and Cats Home. She completed the paperwork for a monthly donation. This number (02074828380) called today to verify my wife's address and post code. On checking the paperwork, she has a piece of paper from Appco group support which, among other things, states that 100% of donation will go to the charity but the charity will pay a one-time fee "out of the charity's pre-allocated fundraising budget" and that a Welcome Call might be made from 02074821980 which is not the number that seems to be causing the problem! If in doubt, you should check the copy of the paperwork that you completed at the time.
The point is that the door step collection method is only one of the ways that charities can obtain donations.so if you want to donate but do not like the idea of the fee then do it direct with the charity.- Caller: Appco?
- Em replies to wtfThese people can be intimidating and quite forceful. They came collecting for Red Cross last week in my area (a military estate) and one of the men entered a house when a young girl answered the door. He then knocked at another door and when the young mother politey said no, he put his foot in the door and when she asked him to remove it he forced his way in and demanded her bank details, he intimidated her by telling her he knew how long she had been home, which car was hers (which was not parked near her house) and that he knew her husband was away. He then had a snoop around the downstairs of her home before leaving. The police were called in and are now handling the matter. The Red Cross were apologetic and explained that they used an outside source for doorstep donations but that doesn't change the fact that a man forced his way into the home of a woman on her own and then intimidated her and demanded her bank details. These people are not doing this out of the goodness of their hearts, they are paid to do it. And while most are pleasant, there are those who are not!
- VickyThis number has called me repeatedly, don't know it so not answered
- helenvery annoying non stop calls for a week.
- TomIts basically hard sell in the name of charity at your door and then constant phone calls. Avoid signing up and giving your number and give to charities on your terms.
- Professorclown replies to DorkingGalExactly the same happened to me. I don't mind the good work the Red Cross people do, but I resent unwanted junk/cold/annoying calls. I've added it to my 'blocked calls' list, but in general, I never answer calls that I don't recognise, as I can't trust myself not to sound evil to them. I hate them, as they are just wasting decent people's time.
Don't answer it! - Alan W replies to ResponseYou mean you call to suggest I may have been lying to the to the salesperson, charming!
- SasaCold canvass call this morning. Have now saved no. as APPCO Charity, so I know not to answer if/when they ring back.
- Caller: APPCO
- Call type: Telemarketer
- Just say noLast two comments from APPCO parasites I guess. Would be interesting to know the percentages of elderly customers that are signed up by this parasitic bunch of idiots
- Debbie replies to ResponseActually, I've not been in touch with any charity over the phone or at the door step lately and suddenly they are calling me 5 and 6 times a day!! When I'm at work I can't always answer my personal phone - perhaps they should leave a message?
I'm always suspicious of callers who don't leave a message, therefore after 2 or 3 missed calls and no messages I check the number out and if its something like this I blacklist them on my phone. - Brin Hughes4 calls today so far, no voicemail left
suspect it could be linked to Battersea Dogs and Cats home
They are the only charity that know my number
Or could be down to a cold caller- Caller: Battersea Cats and Dogs Home
- Call type: Telemarketer

- Call type: Telemarketer
- Carol replies to DorkingGalYes I got caught up in their charm too but now I will have to cancel as I didn't realise it was £10 a month. You wouldn't mind if it was just a few pounds
- MJKCalled by them after being hassled by Chuggers at my doorstep. They were representing Battersea Dogs Home but were very coporate looking. Charming yet very forceful. Signed up with them in the hope that I could cancel after a few months so everybody wins. However, the calls do not stop - they seem to have sold my number to other charities. This is the real disgrace. The whole business now seems shady, all the way from when they corner you at your home to the point where they try to get you to depart with more of your hard earned cash. Disgusting and so unethical.
- Caller: APPCO
- Linda HallThis number is really bugging me now. Several times a day on my mobile. I don't answer it and they don't leave a message. I understand from other people on another forum thst it's after signing up to a variety of charities.
