These idiots just phoned me, saying they were "from your electricity company" - but without giving out the name. As soon as they described the gizmo I knew it was a con so put the phone down on them.

Just received a call which ended rapidly when I started asking questions.

So they are still at it.

My mum received this 'power saving' device in the post a few weeks ago - don't know how she got it as I'm sure she did not buy it.
Last week she got a letter from Athico Ltd saying the device was faulty and they were working with Trading Standards to investigate the problem. They asked her to return the device and enclosed a cheque for £99 made out to my Mum. Their only request was that the cheque 'be cashed as soon as possible'
Any ideas?
Is this another scam?

My eldery mother got a call from these people saying they were from scottish power,  and that she know had to pay for her order of a Power Saver.  My mother said she didn't order that item and they said  to return the item was she had received it,  They then asked for her bank details stating that they would not take any money unless she decided she wanted to keep the item.  Mum is know £99 out of pocket and refuses to answer the phone.

my mother in law was contacted by these people and asked for a payment of 99 pounds for the so called device, she realised in time as it seemed suspicious.but it has left her worried, she has had to cancel her bank card but the experiance has left her feeling distressed.Can something be done to stop these people?

My 87 year old mum has also been targeted by this co. We have returned gadget to Florida and been assured by Mr Williams that money would be refunded but that was 2 weeks ago. I am not holding my breath. Save a leg for me to break

I am very resistant to cold calling, but unbelievably was taken in by the ITC call today. It sounded so plausible, and like most people, am keen to save on bills where I can. I got the same spiel as everyone else about being a good customer, special deal for 'pensioners', send me the chocolates when you see how much money it saves you etc etc. However, though I am not scientifically minded a voice in my head said how can a plug in gadget possibly reduce electricity costs?? As soon as I put the phone down, I realised what an idiot I had been, and cancelled my Mastercard immediately. I have been informed that they tried to take the money one hour after the call - lucky escape! ITC has phoned three times since I cancelled the card, and I now have the great inconvenience of having to wait for the new card to be sent out.... Say NO!

Same call as other about a 40% energy saving device. As I have a BSc in electrical engineering i asked him how it worked and he muttered about a capacitor which is a component probably used in the equipment but when I said I would check with EON he put the phone down! It is surely a scam

So.. How long have you worked for this company? I am a Trading Standardss Officer and they are certainly NOT ok!

i am quite satisfied with this device because i have been using this device for past 7 months i have already saved around 300 to 350 pounds in my electricity bills. and the best thing is that i was bit worried about to sharing my bank details on the phone but when i got my bank statement then i ll came to know that the company i was dealing that is the legitimate company and i am satisfied with this device

I just received a call from Jack William (?), a guy with a heavy Asian accent from a co. called Powersave Ltd based at 81 Oxford St, offering a device to attach to my electricity supply which would reduce the price I am currently paying by 40% for life. It sounded a bit too good to be true.
He wanted me to verify my date of birth which I was reluctant to do and I smelled a rat. He wouldn't give me his phone no.
Who are these criminals?
I am registered with TPS but it doesn't seem to be filtering out all these dodgy calls.

Also stated 020 7993 8291.  www.bestpowersavers.com  ITC Development Group.  Same address - Regus managed office in Oxford Street.

PLEASE NOTE: All credit cards of a certain type begin with the same four digits, so all Barclaycard credit cards start with 4929, so don't be taken in by thinking that they know something about you. Somewhere, some scumbag has sold a mailing list from Barclaycard to these scammers.
Got the same phone call today (40% off, magic device blah blah), put the phone down.
Btw, got a similar call earlier this year about a free holiday, also telling me the first four digits of my card.

I also got a phone call from so called Electricity Board near the end of September 2011, saying | could save 40% on my electricity bill, as I paid regularly, and as I was a pensioner. They would send me this device to plug into the socket in the wall, which would reduce my electricity.  I almost fell for it, but with all the questions, about my date of birth, where I lived, then got to what bank I dealt with, I said confidently that I was NOT going to give them my bank details. The woman talking, I have her name, but I expect she gave me a false name.  She was almost laughing in the distance when I said I would not give my bank details.  Collecting it all in my thoughts, and   others out there, beware....  don't bother to continue with any conversation.  It is so easy to follow this on, with the supposedly kind voice on the phone initially....I asked if they were from the UK, and they confirmed their head office was in London.  The Electricity Board where I pay my bill knows nothing at all about this.

Just had the same call. Number given as out of area. They knew an awful lot about me ( pensioner, pay by direct debit, address etc ). I hung up when they asked about card details...
As an electrical engineer, I know the device shown on the web cannoy work.

Power Saver Device.  Watch out! The number I was given was 02079938291. Same scam-like con, offering me to be able to save up to 40% on my electricity bills (I do love a free lunch).  No they weren't representing my supplier who, they said, would be horrified to think they were loosing so much revenue. The device is a gismo that supposedly plugs into the household supply and automatically cuts down the electric used in the home.  Never heard of such a thing.  I have to say they do seem organised; even got to talk with the supervisor.  What throws you is them having enough details to proceed as though they are bonafide: names address blah blah. These people sounded to be of Asian extraction. Frankly I had to concentrate very hard to understand, but the bottom line clicked when they wanted my bank details.  This was when I cut them off: said I'd do my own checking about ITC Electricity Board balloney. £99 pensioners rate and all the guarantees that are probably worthless.  Buyer beware!

Just had a call trying to sell us a £99 box for 40% electricity. Very plausible Asian man. claimed to have all our electricity supply info and wanted our bank details which he claimed he needed to verify.

I had a call on the same vain as all the other comments stated he was from Electricity board and I had been selected as I paid my bills on time. Again a plug in device saving me 40 % on energy bills. I knew my surname and address. Before he sent the device he wanted to confirm my details, I said he didn't need my first name to post the device. He said he couldn't send it until he confirmed some details. I asked for his details so that I could check him out. He said he would give them if I promised to confirm mine afterwards. He had a foreign accent:

The number rings and gets answered, you can hear a noisy call room, someone just said hello, I asked the name of the company she said ITC Development Corporation, I put the phone down, what a scam !!! I can't believe they have been operating this scam for over a year!! Don't be fooled
