Unfortunately the scammers using this number can't be affected in any huge way by anything you do to this number.  I got the same scam (telling me my computer was infected etc) from a withheld number and when I asked them for a callback number they kindly told me 02 9016 4321, which is ironic as they told me they were based in Melbourne.  But seeing as I had heard about the scam I reported it to the ACCC (www.scamwatch.gov.au or phone the ACCC).  The nice man at Scamwatch told me that the scammers actually use Skype, and that the phone number they give you probably does redirect to their overseas location.  However while the ACCC are collecting all the information they can, it is difficult for them to make prosecutions outside their jurisdiction.  And I don't know what kind of telephone bill you can rack up calling a number connected to Skype (hopefully only local call charges...)

However he did tell me how to stop them calling!  Just tell them you know it is a scam!  Then they know they won't get any money out of you and they won't bother you any more :P

I am from Singpaore and got a call from WINDOWS (as they said) and told me that my computer is affected by the malware etc. and this is finishing my computer. Guaranteed the call was from India because they were speaking Hindi language also (as one of my colleague in my office speaks hindi and I can identify few words definiately.)

She asked me to get onto my PC and lead me into the 'Computer Management console', here she asked me to look for any errors marked with red X's, now of course there were because there always is from one thing or another. She asked me to count them and tell her how many, as if I would be scared by the 'dangerous' number of errors.

She then given it to the senior and he lead me into CMD or the 'Command Console' and asked me to run the 'ASSOC' command.

This brings up a list of all the different file extensions being used on my computer, he made out that this was a list of all the virus/tojan programs on my system.

Then he asked me to scroll down and read out the ZFSENDTOTARGET CLSID in order to 'identify' my computer and make sure it was the correct one.

After this I switch off my wi-fi so that nothing can go wrong *(just in case). then they have given me a phone number (funny) saying this is international toll free number i.e. 613900186185 and told me to call him either before 1 pm and at late evening.

I am 100% sure that Microsoft will never call you like this. This is 100% a scam. Please in case if you received the call like this, share it with everyone and don't give any of your important information of your computer. Take care and best of luck.

My wife got a call from this number today trying to scam her with the same story. The guy on the phone "John" Indie John said he was a junior technicial for a company calling themselves the Windows Service Centre based in Sydney. The guy gave me thier address as 149/2 Victoria Ave Chatswood Sydney. If anyone needs to check it out ...... please do, my wife coudn't believe she had been scammed, wouldn't even let me run Nortons, search the net for scam reports or call friends to find out if this was legit!! "call them now before the laptop becomes infected" Yikes! nearly cost me the marriage!!

These guys are dodgy ... they could not give me a straight answer about how they were receiving error reports from my machine. Also as soon as I asked them to send me an email with their company details and why they were calling me so that I could verify their authenticity the guy got angry and aggressive and told me it wasn't going to be his fault when my PC died and then hung up. That was the "supervisor".

They ask you to go into your event viewer and then sort your events and see if there's any errors. They then want you to believe that any errors in there are resulting from malicious software that's been installed on your machine and want you to install software so that they can remotely control your PC so that they can "fix" your problem.

Sounded so dodgy from the start - have received 2 calls from these guys now. Indians.

I was also called up. When my partner called them back he was told the same thing despite not knowing which number I was calling from (called via Skype with a mobile caller ID different from the home phone). He insisted on having my number and calling me back to help me.

Is there a charge? Yes, an $89 once off fee and then all other service calls for that number would be free.

And who am I speaking to? The Windows Service Centre for XP, Vista and 7!!

What a scam man!

These guys are operating in/on New Zealand now. Using european-sounding names like Brad Williams. They want CLSID numbers and want to sell anti-virus software to get rid of the dozens of viruses and malware in your computer system.  Steer clear.

I just had someone call me about this. They gave me crap about how all my inf files are viruses. I knew from near the start that they were bogus, but went along with it to see what they wanted. They told me to type the last 6 digits of my windows licence key into www.logmein123.com to connect with a security guy. I went along with it, it said it wasnt a valid code, and the lady said i needed to pay them $39 or something to buy a new software protection licence so people couldnt hack my computer anymore.

This is crap!! I checked the microsoft site to be sure, and they say here:

that they will NEVER call you about problems with your computer...

I just received a call from a "Microsoft agent" Saying that they had detected a virus broadcasting from my computer and that they where able to track me down using my CLSID. "Jimmy" kept insisting that I go to my computer and turn it on so he can match the CLSID automatically. I knew he was full of [***] for a couple reasons:

- The line went "blup" when I picked up, so this was random dialed.
- The operator did not speak french, my windows is in french. He barely speaked English.
- He did not know my computer was already ON !!!
- I never divulged my phone number to software companies.

So unless someone calls you directly and knows: your NAME, your PHONE number and ACCOUNT number at their company, IT IS A GOD DAMNED SCAM.

It still happening.
I had a quiet day so tried to waste as much of their time as possible.
The play was the same ie:  We are receiveing error reports from you PC.  We can prove to you its your PC with your unique CLSID which was the same on all three of my PC's, which they explained was because I bought them all. (As it turned out my mate's PC has the same number and when asked to return it to me he objected, funny that)
They gave me directions to search for a web sight "Microsoft solution finder" & then type in "allure" which lead me to www.thelivepc.com which had a matching sydney number & had Microsoft solution finder logo.  I rang the number after the call to sus it out and it sounded like the same mob, all Indian.  I spoke to Cynthia & Marshall Young during their call, you can reach them on 02 8005 6033 they would love you to call.
I've reported all this to microsoft who also advised that they nore their partners cold call customers in this manner, nore is their an official microsoft solution finder logo.
This kept me amused for about an hour.  Cost me nothing and was all good fun.

Exactly the same telephone scam to me today in Vancouver BC in Canada.  Caller was adamant that some evil doer was downloading nasty .pnf files to my puter without my knowledge which was, in turn, infecting my hard drive and resulting in" error reports being sent to the nearest router."  (Since my puter is 2 inches away from my puter and both are well protected and, moreover, pnf files are merely pre-compiled .inf files I was truly bewildered about what he was talking about.  To add to the confusion, the caller's Indian accent was practically impossible to decode, though he swore he was making a local call.  *The call display shows "unknown caller".  Anyway, I eventually just hung up on the guy because the smell of rat was becoming suffocating,  so I'm very relieved to discover this is a recognized scam.  There you have it.  No scam like an old scam.  Beware.  (Now, if I could only figure out how he had my land line tel no.  This particular scam seems to require a fair amount of advance knowledge, phone number / puter owner with online access, etc, , all of which remains somewhat disconcerting.  Hopefully they were just guessing on a random basis, but it still seems a somewhat complicated scam to be profitable.)

Received the same phone call in Vancouver, BC - This is terrible.  Too many calls received like this.  I hung up and he called back twice in a row with different phone numbers.

Haha..very good...I did same thing today...kept him on the phone for almost an hour..I kept telling him I don't understand..I could tell he was getting very annoyed and terse..and eventually I had had enough and said to him.."do you think I am an idiot?"...and then told him I know what he was up to and to go F**K himself...he didn't like that..he let fly with some of his own profanities and hung up. I feel better now!!!

i got that call but when they got me to go to a site that wanted me to download a program that could  help him access my computer, i told him you are not a microsoft affiliate ( as he said) and i hung up i suggest anyone who gets this call does the same

Had them for the first time today. I am a PC tech so had a lot of fun with him. He was persistent, he called me back three times, not knowing I'd hung up on him and blaming his connection.
They asked me to do all of the things mentioned in the thread and I asked him how he knew there was a problem with my computer. He said initially he was from Microsoft and when I cottoned on, he admitted he was from a different company.
FOR ANY NOVICES: DONT do what these people are asking you to do. You can in fact give them access to your computer by following there instructions. HANG UP ON THEM!
I happened to annoy my guy enough that he hung up on me. I think it was me laughing at his demands that annoyed him.

DO NOT.  I repeat DO NOT give access to your computer OR give credit card information to these SCAMMERS, folks!  Yes, I'm yelling - pleading with you NO TO DO THIS!
This is a scam, plain and simple.
If you give them the time of day, they'll con you out of money and infect your computer with their own malware.

If someone phones you up and tells you your computer is reporting errors to a central server, HANG UP ON THEM IMMEDIATELY.  Microsoft does not cold call Windows users.  The "Internet people" don't cold call you, in fact, they don't even exist!  The only one you might get a call from is your service provider - the people you pay for your Internet service and they will verify that they know who they are talking to directly from the account information they have on file.  Anyone else demanding access to your computer to "fix" a problem is a fake, a fraud, a scammer, a thief and a liar.

If you have already paid them via credit card, inform your bank immediately!

wow my house been getting like the exact same calls for months now, i kept telling them that my parents were out at the time (which they always were), so i asked the Indian woman to call again later (which apparently means like 10 seconds to them),

so anyway, yesterday i finally passed on the phone to my parents (Saturday 28 Jan 2012, was the day) when the Indian "Microsoft Windows Global Technical Department" called again and my dad wanted to ask them some stuff like how they got out number and how they know our PC is virused if they didn't know our ip address (which they didn't know), etc.

and my dad kept asking them for a website, and a telephone number,and for their company name, and then the Indian woman passed on the phone to her "tech supervisor" (or something like that) and my dad asked the same questions over and over again for like 10 minutes and then my dad said:  "Please tell me the details of the company you work for and give me a location, a phone number, and other contact details so that i can verify that you are a genuine company, and if the details you give are false in anyway, then i will contact NSW police"

Then the also indian accented "tech supervisor" HUNG UP!    and that's my story (by the way i'm 12, i spend everyday on the computer, so i know my stuff, and i answer most calls to the home phone, which is how i got involved with these "guys"

Please be aware these scammers also use another phone number, 02538020308, do not fall for this, they are only there to take your money with no services provided.

Listen all you guyz over here who called you up or whatever they done it's simply belongs to their duty.They have to do it.And the company just provide a script about that and they i mean the caller have to spell out from their side to get salary or income to doing their study.And the companies are just pissed their life out to here.And they even know about that they are doing scam.No people in their life want do cheat knowingly or as their passion.
That's all about the caller and company whatever they are saying.
