I have had several calls along this line usually directing me too inf or file event viewer and more recently the CLSID form. Interestingly the CLSID trick does not work on my Windows 2000 machine.

It normally throws them when I tell them there are several computers at this address and I use most of them as they insist it is my 'personal computer' that is at risk. They don't like to drift off their script you see. :)

Obviously they adapt as time goes on.

Unfortunately I have spectacularly failed to get any company information out of them or a return telephone number to be able to report them to anybody.

The most interesting development today was they actually used my name (or the mangled indian version of it anyway).

They have tried tried several times to get control of my PC via the logmein websites.

I've about given up trying to bring them to justice so I have asked for the service that declines calls made from withheld numbers on my telephone service. You normally pay for this service but Virgin quite nicely gave it to me as I was having problems with this type of call.

It obviously won't cure the problem but it should offer some relief.

I just got a call from these goons today, July 13, 2012! They are up to no good again. Very heavy Indian accent which was the first tip off. They said I got a virus. How did they have my CLSID??

The phone number was different, from Washington. Same scan though. I googled while he was talking, which I could barely understand, and I found this. Really glad I did!

got the call in NY from 'unavailable'
told me it was Windows Support
asked me to go to my computer, I asked which one, he answered 'any one'
asked to type cdm-> assoc
very heavy accent could not pronounce the 'a'
told me my computer had virus
I kept him for 10 minutes repeating each letter until I got bored.

Have had this number on the phone several times. 1256781425. This time I was at home. Poliet man, presenting him as Steve?? with Iinduian accent??? Calling form Microsoft support services, (N lots of noice in the background) They had recieved numberous error reports from my computer. It was at risk due to hacing..... and was in risk of beeing destroyed.
I asked if he could supply me wi6h my Microsoft licence number, and that was no problem. Tried to tell that i did not have my computer.. At least I gort the number:: 888 DC 60 FCO A11CF 8FOFOFOOCO4FD7DO62..
( Wery long, and not normal licence number, but convinient..) Told I could check, but did not need to, as I had it on my computer.  Do you find the number on yours???  ( sertainly..)
I hang up, and they called back 5 min later, to give me time to go to my computer...
Called back and called himself Mike.... Talked to my son and explained him that they had to take control to clean it up...

This scam is continuing in Australia and NZ atm.  Very heavy Indian accent.  Told me his name was Justin Smith.  I told him to send me something in writing addressed to Ahmade Amistake.

Got a call from  Max Wilson although sounded Indian saying something wrong with my computer. Asked for number to call back and he gave me this number and said he was from Optus Technical but when i first answered i questioned where he was from and he said he a company
Didn't call him back.
