Hi, I think it is more than fishing for valid phone no's. for telemarketing as they keep calling even after you answer and keep hanging up.  It just keeps going on and on.

Hey everyone, I think I know what it is all about.  I'm with Optus and just received an email with a link advising that I must click on this link and update my billing information immediately or my account will be suspended.  The email is clearly a scam (thank God they have bad English skills and there is usually at least one spelling or grammar mistake).  I have reported it to Optus.  They must be getting our phone numbers off internet sites like ebay, Trading Post, Seek, or tracking the service provider of the phone etc and then sending what looks like legitimate emails to get you to log-in and give them your personal information (i.e. payment information).  PLEASE don't click on any links in emails and if you're not sure call the Company directly and report the emails / problem calls.  Good luck all.

I have a same situation as you. 1st ask for publishing my car sales on their website for free, then 2nd time asking my email address again to further confirm.I will [***] and not secure when he always saying 'i will send something to your email for notification'.

I m from QLD and dun think this sydney line is from local organisation.should be some scam.they are even asking for suburb postcode only and email, i am not sure what they try to do

They have called me twice ask about free advertising with their company website, and asking to provide email and postcode.Speak fast and never really letting ppl chance to respond.

Still happening and if the people are reading this that have been calling my number!!!! Won't be answering anymore so F@#k off and stop call!!! Get a real job!!!!

had about 8 calls from this number, no one is ever there , so now when i see this number i just hang up

we have a lot of numbers that tried to call us we have about 20 -19 times a day so just ignore it if some random number comes up at any times so annoying let the police know  it could be a scheme.

once a chinese lady called from that number and i decided to hang up on her that was weird she tried to speak english  but she could not speak english very random uh!!!!!!

Have had 6 calls from this number, 2 per day.

I answer and say hello, silence, a couple of seconds later the call disconnects and I hear a busy signal.

Tried to call it back just then and hear a congestion tone (alternating soft and loud beep) or a pause then a normal busy signal, like I haven't dialled enough digits.

The number it is calling was previously allocated to our FAX machine and I haven't yet bothered to remove it... it's a private fax so it has never been listed on a public site, and only a few companies would know it. So I'm not sure how they got my # in the first place, or what they're trying to achieve by calling me and hanging up. I don't hear any fax sounds.

Have received more than 9 calls over the last week from this number with no answer on the other end. The call ends after a few seconds of silence. Would really like it to stop.

Stop calling, this pest calls three to four times a day without answering.

These [***] have called me three times in the last day including at 12.30am and 2.30am, my grandma just had a heart attacck so had my phone by my bed so to be woken up twice by these idiots i must say i am not impressed in any way, currently on the phone to telstra to see what i can find out and to have this number traced and a warning sent, also guys place your numbers on the do not call register www.donotcall.gov.au this will help also

Hi all, I have been getting several of these calls from different numbers but always with the Sydney prefix. I have been told that companies give telemarketers a quota or a certain amount of numbers they have to call per day. My partner thinks that these telemarketers just call numbers, hope they connect, and then they can hang up as it counts towards their daily quota. As to where they get our numbers? Certain companies make money from selling our data. And we can never call them back as they are calling from overseas (mostly) and use Australian numbers as 'proxys'.
