Yes it's out there!  This guy tried to tell me I was getting a $7600 refund from the tax department.  Couldn't give me anymore information. Quoted me the above phone number and gave me a Reference number to speak with the Financial Officer at the Tax Office. My number( I thought) was private but he had it!  It was obviously a Call Centre in India somewhere but came up with the (02) prefix.  Had a half hour argument with him and then said if he was a person of conscience he wouldn't be doing this. Sad! They have to resort to this to earn money. Told him he sounded intelligent and educated and didn't need to do this.  Wrong! It's a Scam couldn't give me my TFN or anything....Hang up.

Just got this call...exactly as previous posters have said.

Had a scammer just call pretending to be from the tax office on 0291919703 giving me a reference number and telling me to ring that number, quote the reference number to get $7000 refund.     But he rang me on a phone number that I don't use for Tax Office.   When I asked why hadn't they contacted my Tax Agent he said because Christmas is coming up.   The Tax Office wouldn't give a damm about Christmas and giving refunds.

Had a missed call from this number when I returned the call he demanded to know my name and tax file number !! Huge alarm bells after all he called me and should know my name and the appropriate information and I'm not giving my tax file number to anyone but my accountant ... I hung up on him!!  ☆☆☆Beware sounds mighty suspicious☆☆☆☆

I received a called form Australian Taxation Office, Canberra and saying Tonny Abott's Tax Reimbursement which I am eligible to receive $7600. He gave me this telephone number 02 9191 9703 to call him back. While we were discussing I researched his member in this website  www.whocallsme.com. I told him off that you are a scammer, and ten he hanged up.  Be careful guys !!! you can lost lumps sum of money in a minutes.

I received a call within the last 5 min's regarding a tax refund from the ATO in Canberra. This was an Indian lady claiming it was relating to a pension. I am not old enough to receive a pension. It is funny how it was only yesterday that I paid a rather large Land Tax bill of over $8k. I am now wondering how secure is my information in relation to the ATO.  

Got a call at friends place from Victor at Reimbursement Office of the Central Tax Office in Canberra.  He wanted to speak to my friends mother. Evidently she was due for a refund of $7,600. (seen that figure before on this site!!).  Said she couldn't come to the phone just at the moment so he gave me the toll-free phone no 02 9191 9703 and reference number 2447821T. Then I told him that he was lying but he insisted he was from 34th Section of Reimbursements Office.  My friends mother died 11 years ago.  I reported it to ATO.

Received phone call stating from the tax office- Indian accent saying to call this number to receive a tax return. Did not ask for any details and said i would only get the return if I phoned this number

Got similar call. I've reported them to the actual ATO.
Call was from No Caller ID Jessica her name was apparently 0291919703 refrence 2447821J and i was to call 0261003872. obviously I did not.

Got a call on Friday that my mum was to get a tax return for $7600 this was on 14/2/14 like everyone else the same number 0261003872 and gave a reference number r 2447821 lucky I looked up this number on the net to see everyone's complaints the government and police need to catch this dirty f##### dog that thinks he can take money of the elderly . Wat a scamming dog .

Same as all the comments above. I was happy to keep them on the phone for ages to waste their time (glad I had a few spare minutes). They couldn't answer any of my political questions. My kids thought it was hilarious. I called the number back after the call ended and of course no answer. I assume it's just some kind of portal number for calling here from India.

I couldn't understand him because of the accent... I called the number for a laugh. The guy who answered got annoyed with me because he knew that I knew it was a scam.

who keeps calling me on this number 0291919703  they keep ringing and hanging up before I can answer it or just as I pick up  it up I think it might be someone who is trying to scam me from the Tax office scam as they have tried before  there is also an overseas number as well it is 10283736811 just don't answer them if you can

They've called me twice. Found this site after googling their number.

1: Feb 7. Male with a strong 'Indian call centre' accent shouting mangled English at me said he's calling from the ATO in Canberra and that they owe me $000s. He got me to copy down some reference number which I was to use when contacting some other accomplice. Usually toy with these callers but his english was so bad I simply closed by saying that if the ATO owes me money they can just send an advisory letter and drop the loot in my account as they normally do with my tax refund.

2: Mar 5 (today). Female with similar accent, presumably from the same call centre (I can hear the background mayhem), also claiming to be calling from the ATO in Canberra, started explaining that I can get a refund on the 25-30% that's been automatically deducted from my pension. Maybe I could have had more fun if I'd pretended to actually be on some pension?

I just got the call myself only a few minutes ago on my home number and lucky to be sitting in front of my computer to google the number they gave me to see these comments. I sure told the lady where to go and Karma will catch up with her for scamming people (i wasn't that polite) I've called the number several times now and have screamed down the phone at whoever has answered until they have hung up on me!!! I will not tolerate anyone that tries to rip people off!!

I had the same call to-day saying I had a refund of $7000.00 from the ATO. I told him I don't think so. He hung up straight away.

Had 4 calls from this number on 23rd April all on my message bank  11.26am; 1.32pm; 2.10pm & 4.33pm ~ no one spoke and no calls since!  Also if ATO want you to call them it is a 1300 number!
