Prank Call, did not speak. Tried calling back but it was "busy".

Similar to others - caller with thick Indian accent, noise in the background. Got my name wrong and said she was from Tax Department (that made me immediately suspicious as they don't refer to themselves in that way- it is ATO or Australian Taxation Office). I just hung up. Called the number back & got a message saying the number was not operating currently & to call back later. Co-worker put me onto this site, so pleased I have found it, thanks!

Just called. Disappointed. He only offered $7300.00 not $7600.00 like the rest.

A call just went through to my retired mother who is battling cancer & very ill. She has been on a pension for a while now but was very confused & concerned at how legit this guy sounded. Said his name was James (no accent), stating she had been underpaid on her pension & the ATO were refunding her $7600. Gave her a reference # to use when calling back etc. thankfully I have conditioned her to check with me before doing anything with people over the phone. So glad I checked this & other sites - hundreds of complaints ranging back to 2012! How can the same scam still be running after so long when a lot of people have reported to police, ato etc??!

Said "That Green" , I from the Taxation Department Canberra.

I said "You fibber" they hung up unfortunately before I could be very cross!

BEWARE OF TAX SCAM ! they are phoning from 0291919703. In an Indian voice of course..dead give away. She is claiming to be from the Taxation Department in Canberra.

yep they are still running this same ATO scam, ... amazing giving the thread of scam reports from this number goes back over 2 years.... 02 91919701... I asked what deptartment she was from at the ATO... she said department of reimbursements!!! thanks to all the posts for keeping us alert

female with an indian accent (Janet) claiming to be ATO told me that government wants to give me $7600 (the magic number) told me to call the reimbursement dept section 34 on 0291919703 also gave me a ID Number.
It sounded dodgy from the start,Maybe it is good not to trust anyone. Thank you for this web site.

Indian or Pakistani woman rang just now to tell me I was owed a refund of $7600 because I was in the 10 - 20% tax bracket.  I explained that I was in the 20 - 30% bracket (There isn't a 10 - 20% tax bracket) She said I was paying way too much and I should ring this number ...BLA...BLA....BLA.... She sounded like the same woman that rings to tell me 'Telstra' is going to turn off my internet.........I try to educate her on scamming and fraud and that her homework should include BIGPOND before ringing me back.......I like to drag it out until they hang up.
