I have had several missed calls from this number when returning the call it is engaged.  I answered the phone and spoke to someone I mentioned I was driving so he said 'ok i will call back later' didn't say who he was or where he was from.  I am a virgin mobile customer and now agree that their service is a joke.  My advice is don't give anyone information on the phone if you can't verify who they are.

they just rang me and asked for all my details and i wasnt all that keen to tell her, she wasnt that nice, and pressured me to tell her, she was trying to offer me a better deal with virgin, told her i was happy with what i was doing, when she wanted more details i told her i wasnt wanting to give too much cause i have heard of others ending up with empty bank acc, she couldnt get off the phone quick enough then, not sure what to think

I got the same call from 0290281914, when I answered there was a delay and then a woman with an anonymous international accent answered the phone, asking for my details. I rightly suspected a scam and hung up on her. It's a scam people, the best thing to do is to either lead them on and waste their time or offend them and hang up. Either way the scammers will feel like crap, as they ought to.

Just got a missed call from 97610088 same as above number always engaged.  I am inclined to think it is a scam, reading the above.  Best not to give information.  If it is a genuine call they would give you a number to ring them back without having to tell all details.  hey if it is Virgin they have the number so they can tell us the details.

Recently got an Iphone4 from Virgin, friends can't get through to me and I often don't have service in the heart of Sydney, I hope this is Virgin checking to see how I'm going.

virgin, they were following up on a support call i made to make sure everything had been resolved.

Just thought i would add that i have been getting called today from this same number - and i am ALSO from virgin mobile haha, so guess that solves that mystery! :) when i called back it was dial tone type noises too :)
once again the internet has solved my problem!

Hmmm - just got one from this number and am also with Virgin so its starting to look suspiciously like Virgin is prankcalling customers just for kicks. There didn't seem to be anyone on the line. Perhaps this should be reported to the Australian Media and Communications Authority? There has to be a higher power who is authorised to find out where the calls are coming from and what their story is.

i had a missed call from this no. while i was away from my desk. i tried to ring back but the call is being barred. seeing the posts here, i have an inkling that this is indeed from virgin mobile. i just called them earlier this morning about my contract which is about to end this month and i wanted to know what my options are. but obviously they wanted me to upgrade to a higher plan or extend my contract and the lady i spoke with tried to redirect my call to someone else. well, reading the posts, i'm thnking of jumping to another boat soon.

maybe I'm a bit late, but you only have to top up your phone with $80 and they unlock it...

I am also with virgin and also have had these calls from both numbers 02 97610088 and 0290281914 and I think it is great that the internet has provided answers.

If you want to report Virgin, the appropriate channel would be via the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman (TIO). If Virgin really are doing this, or if it is a scam, the TIO should be able to get to the bottom of it. Vigin won't be happy,  because they get charged for every legitimate complaint lodged.

I just had a missed call from that number. Last time I got one similar it was when virgin prepaid changed rate plans. The lady asked if I wanted her to tell me the changes. I told her no, the numerous texts and info on their website was sufficient enough and hung up.

got a call form this number today, i don't like to answer if it's not in my contact lists...but thank u all for sharing now atleast i know its Virgin!! am wt Virgin broadband as well tsk tsk...if i need something from them i should be the one calling them i suppose!! GB

i wonder if we can send this page to virgin mobile as i just missed that call aswell. maybe they can give us answers on y this number is calling us. i am starting to think it is not virgin and sounds like it is some scam where they want ur details. i would be very careful in handing out details to this guy

Yes, I am with Virgin and they called me at that number and hang up.  It makes a lot of sense that they are trying to get me off the plan.  It should be illegal.  Virgin has done audacious illegal things before.  For example, I was in their very early prepaid plan where there was no expiry date for this plan.  They say "no expiry ever" (and I still have the letter and brochure).  Because I use my mobile only very rarely, it suits me fine so I hung on to that plan for years with no recharge.  Suddenly one day, they expired me.  I complainted and they didn't even write back.  Don't trust marketing (especial Virgin).  Even a contract can be flouted.  Guess I could complaint to ACCC...
