We got a call from this number, saying they were from HSBC fraud an quoting C1. We called the number on the back of the HSBC card and spoke to lost/stolen, who's put us through to fraud. This was genuine and my wife's card had been cloned earlier that day.

This is a legitimate number - I called the number on my card (using 03 in place of 08) and was put through to their fraud department after going through their security questions. I had two fraudalent transactions on my business debit card to two different US websites that they had stopped, thankfully. One was for £1000.83 !! My card has been cancelled and they are sending a new one out to my business address, which they knew.

If you are unsure about this number then go through the HSBC switchboard but do talk to them as it could save you a lot of financial pain.

Received a message from this number and called HSBC directly via the phone number on their website. The guy asked for the number (03456052324) and confirmed it was a genuine HSBC message and transferred me to the department (Fraud Prevention).

The operative then stated that a small withdrawal from my account to a charity was attempted the previous evening. I've read previously that this is a common strategy used by thieves to check if a card is valid. I told the operative I didn't make initiate this transaction and he promptly cancelled my card and ordered a replacement.

Just to be safe, if you receive a text message or call from this number, I'd recommend calling HSBC's main telephone number and check things are OK with your account too.

Yeah, I followed the advice of Toomeg (see above) and phoned the number on the back of my card. The lady told me that the number was genuine and transferred me to fraud control who asked me about recent transactions.

Same report I called the number on my card as I don't trust dialling random telephone numbers and the fraud team were trying to contact me. Given that they tell you to be careful they have not thought through the obvious danger of legitimising undisclosed numbers reduces my confidence in their processes when they effectively contact people using the same approach a scammer would. Common sense would be to put the fraud number on the bank card or just use one number IMHO

I read the above comments with a bit of scepticism thinking that they could, potentially, be part of an elaborate phishing scheme liken the texts might be.  But it is legit.  However I recommend always going through the HSBC customer services number to avoid potential phishing sms.

In my case my card had been cloned, presumably whilst recently abroad.  I didn't lose money luckily.

    This number is legit.

After receiving a text from 'HSBC Fraud', I called HSBC via the normal customer services number and they contacted the Fraud Dept. They actually had sent me the text and wanted to speak to me as my card details had been compromised.

Got a text from this number IMMEDIATELY after putting in the 3 digit security number (from the back) into an online shopping site. Apparently they don't like you using your money, so they quickly cancel your orders and query your purchases. They confirmed my details and confirmed my recent purchases for the last 24-48 hours and then un-flagged my account and released my card for use.
it was very authentic and quite good. I actually feel more secure using their banking because of it!

Seems genuine. I got a text message asking me to call the HSBC Fraud Prevention on that number quoting D1 so I called them back on another number I obtained direct from their website and when they put me through to the fraud team they were contacting me to check some transaction on my account were genuine due to 'unusual activity' on my card.

03456052324 - received a text from HSBC Fraud to call this number. I didn't, I called the customer services number on the back of my bank card who confirmed that this was a genuine number and my card had been blocked due to suspected Fraud. My card had been cloned and a transaction was attempted in India. I'd never trust a number calling or asking to call to discuss bank details though, always phone the bank directly.

Genuine number. Received a text from HSBCFRUAD quoting the number and a reference of D1. Didn't call it back and went to the website and called general enquirers!
The fraud dept. wanted to speak to me as my cards - both debit and credit - had been cloned!
