I received two calls from this number today out of the blue and the second time I answered.  I could hear some background noise for about 2 seconds then they hung up without saying a word.  If they really are a survey company for the government, then why are they hanging up without saying anything?  Doesn't make sense to me.  I don't think they are a survey company at all, I think they are a shady collections company or similar.  Only collection companies call at odd hours and harass you several times a day and if they don't get the right person (female voice instead of a male voice if they are looking for a male) then they hang up on you.  Collections companies aren't legally allowed to talk to the person that is not in collections.  They will keep trying until they get who they are after.  Not sure of the rules here in Australia, but in the States you can send a Cease and Desist Letter to get them to stop calling you.

2012...As I see there were posts as early as 2009.
I recieved a call from them a few minutes ago and after hanging up I then decided to google the number, it then came up with this.
I suggest no one answer that number (Put it in your phone book called "Don't answer")
Last year they said that they were from some sort of human services I think and tonight they have called calling themselves the Education department.
I had a few words with this bloke asking how he recieved my number, he was not too sure as he left a "I think" at the end, after that I chose to stir him up.
Heaps of background noise so instantly I knew it was a telemarketer.
I then checked my credit afterwards and noticed it has eaten almost $2 of my credit.
It's now almost 7pm on a Thursday night, seems a little suss to me.

This is where I will state this FACT.
I told them last year NOT to call back, I told them tonight that I had stated that fact, yet he just continued to push me.
So if you work for that 'Company" I'm sorry, but you are entirely wrong, I said no multiple times until I gave up and hung up, (I was tricked for a short time and answered some questions) since I had my phone off they tried to call back while it was off.
    WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG!

I'm in Perth.  My husband has been getting these missed calls also.  The last time we had the exact same scenario, it happened to be the Modern Group.  These calls abruptly stopped after I rang them and was extremely assertive with them.

I will be looking for a number for the Australian Institute of Family Studies - clearly they are a little slow on the uptake and need a not-so-subtle hint!

I received a phone call about 10 mins ago from this number claiming they were from the University of Queensland and wishing to speak to me.  It struck me as odd that a UQ representative would call from a Melbourne number.  After looking online it seems that many people have drawn different conclusions about who these people are.  Facts, Phone numbers can be sold and bought, the person on the other end was not your typical telemarketer (he spoke with an Australian accent) and if you answer this phone call they will not be able to steal everything you own!  Don't give out ANY information! This is potentially a phishing scam where they have gathered your basic personal info from social media sites like facebook and are trying to get more info from you to conduct fraudulent activities. All organizations that actually need or have your sensitive info will give you an option to verify your info in person or via a secure website.

University experience survey. Multiple choice, took 4 minutes, now they wont call me again. They did not ask for any personal questions, just what they already new and what is easily found on the internet. All questions were multiple choice e.g. how would you rate your lectures bad, good or excellent

hmmm.. same thing, only it was from the "australian police force" it was a survey aimed at teens asking about what we think of the police force and how their job is done. no personal questions though (the most personal question is 'what is your age?')

Had 2 from this number today while I was at work, I never answer a unknown number or Private Number and if they don't leave a message I am not gonna bother with it. I suggest anyone on Do Not Call register to put in a complaint about this as it seem to be a bit fishy never trust anyone on the phone wanting any sorta details even if they don't seem personal.

There. That's ALL the info you need about this company. Why they're calling you and how to get them to stop. When I called their 1800 number they were very pleasant and took me off their list immediately.

Now stop whining and work up the courage to pick up the phone and deal with the calls.

I mean really. Who gets this upset about a few phone calls? Get a grip.
