The free TPS service is crap, it doesn't work, hence why it is free. How can you stupid [***] think a company that have 15 million customers can do a service for free. I didn't really expect to find this number on here.  I only checked because an elderly friend seems to have been scammed by them and e-mails to ask for an explanation are being ignored.
Following the death of her husband earlier this year she found it hard to deal with cold callers. She asked her 'phone provider (Sky) for advice and they suggested she buy a CPR Call Blocker. They assured her, when asked, that thee was only a one off payment.  In March she paid £39.99 and got the unit.  It is average, although it does not stop all calls.  However, at the end of November she received a call from CPR asking if she wanted to sign up for a Call Blocker!  Puzzled, she said she had one, but the caller said that it "an out" in March.  Being trusting and naive she paid up.  The following day, having thought about it, she asked me to check it out.  I sent an e-mail asking why they were charging an annual fee when she had been told it was a one off fee and, if it was an annual fee, why had they taken it in November.  Answer - silence.  Sent them a second e-mail with same questions.  Answer - silence.  Looks like Action Fraud and Trading Standards.

Peopl sign up to CPR not knowing what they are agrreing too. The callblocker device which is awesome and has over 500 reviews on amazon is a one off payment of £39.99. They add you to their call prevention registry data lists too FREE for purchasing the call blocker.

The registry alone costs £39.99 also, and it's that that costs a yearly £39.99 fee IF you decide to stay on it. But CPR offer to give you a Call blocker FREE so you don't need to renew every year. (So they aren't scammers, when they look out for your needs.)

Bogus TPS Calls

The Telephone Preference Service is completely free to consumers.

TPS will not call a subscriber of the service to ask for personal details or payment to complete a registration.

If you have registered via the web and have received an e-mail confirmation and clicked on the attached link, that's it! Your number will be registered for FREE with TPS.

We will not contact you again in relation to your registration (unless you have number(s) registered with the Corporate TPS, where we will contact you annually by email to renew your subscription - this is still a free service).

If you do receive a call from someone claiming to be from the TPS or a similar sounding organisation, asking for personal information or charging you for this service, our advice is to not pay or give them any personal details, it is most likely a scam.

We are aware of a number of organisations that call from overseas, possibly India claiming to be TPS or affiliated with TPS or BT. They ask for your credit card details to complete a registration to stop unwanted calls. They often claim that you previously gave your permission for this call. This is a scam. Never give out your credit card details over the phone.

They are one of the most prolific scam/nuisance callers in the U.K. and seem to operate with impunity. Answer their calls or get involved with these scammers at your peril. Can I correct you on what you are saying about The CPR Global Service & Callblocker.

(1.) We offer our customers two services. One is our www.callpreventionregistry.co.uk database.
This service enables any customer that signs their details on our website to add any 3 telephone numbers (landlines/mobiles of anyone) they so wish onto our registry. After 28 days, we AIM to
STOP ALL unwanted calls from anywhere that may be calling them. This service is a yearly fee of £39.99 and it clearly states this under the terms and conditions of our website. We charge customers this fee because we employ staff that operate around the clock to keep your telephone numbers off these data marketing warehouses data lists which get sold onto 3rd party companies. If the customer also reports any calls to us that may seem to keep coming through, we refresh the customers details constantly on our database to keep them removed and we then pass the details of the cold callers onto our data protection house, who then phone and warn these compnaies to remove the customers details from all such lists. Failure to do so within 14 days will result in the data protection house contacting the I.C.O (Information Commissioners Office) and reporting the offenders to them. The I.C.O are then in charge of deciding whether to fine these cold callers, which could be anywhere from £5.000.00 - £500.000.00 depending on the seriousness of the cold callers offences.

As customers are probably aware, there is also a FREE T.P.S service (Telephone Preference Service) available, but this company is associated with the direct marketing association themselves and they are like the exact offenders who sell your details onto companies to simply telll them you don't wish to be called. Companies don't have to agree to this, because they are not obliged to buy/download the direct marketing data lists which cost them £5.000.00 to do so, and rightly so, why should they? This is also how the T.P.S (Telephone Preference Service) make their money. No company can protect over 15 million customers for FREE, it just doesn't work. Everything in life costs money. Not only that but T.P.S are only about 32-54% successful in REDUCING (not stopping) UK calls only. They also can't deal with SILENT, INTERNATIONAL, or any types of CHARITY/MARKETING calls (which are the worst calls).

Our registry can do all of this and it can be renewed every year for £39.99 but it's completely up to the customer themselves. They don't have to renew the service if they don't want to, and we will never force them to renew. i have received more than 30 calls in the space of 1 week, i  have caller i.d so i dont answer calls from 0800, 0845, 0900 or any other calls that look like telesales numbers. i have been with t.p.s for several years but it makes no difference as these sons of  [***] are more persistent than herpes and about as welcome.can someone not stop these people ???!!!

Well I must say I have enjoyed reading these comments, infact I can tell you that this is actually a scam, so to you out there who have received a call from the cpr do not attempt to be fooled by these crooks! The tps does in fact work and guess what its free! Not like these people who charge an upfront fee of £39.99 for 12months to apparently stop the cold calls what a load of sh*t and the state of the manageress did I say state I mean size (more chins that a Chinese telephone book!but no need for bitchyness I suppose lol)but the Attitude on jabber the hut aka manageress is beyond evil maybe because she's obese but I feel for the staff who work in a dingey office while the owner f**s it up, I think a call to trading standards is long over due to smoking in a office is actually against the law, how very unprofessional!
