I have had missed calls from this number four four days! Sometimes as many as five a day!! They never leave messages, and I never pick up!

Speaking as an Employee of British Gas who works in one of the centres that call from this number (please dont hate me, I am just trying to pay my bills in this blasted recession!) British gas will save any number that you call them from even if you dont give them permission. Hense why you may get called on private mobiles, work numbers, friends numbers etc.
The best thing you can do when someone calls is ask to be removed from the database, but also call customer services on 0800 048 0202 and ask to be removed from all marketing.
It frustrates the hell out of me that my company will save any number without telling the customer. I really do think its immoral. But apparently, unless you say on the call 'Dont ever contact me on this number'. they are legally within their rights to call you on it :( Sorry guy x

I have actually asked Never call me in this number and they keep calling on my private mobile all the time, last at 9am on sat, woke me up! How annoying! They were calling from another number few weeks ago and i put that in my phone as spam and stopped picking it up, after telling them at least 4 times not to call me. Npw they call from a different number, is that some sort of trick to make people pick up? You would expect that from some shabby cold call company not from british gas but there you go! I am shocked they save the number you call from. I am a freelancer and often use my own number to call. Other companies have the respect to ask- is it ok to call you on this number ?
I will just keep picking up and asking to be taken off... I am not ringing 0800 from my phone, why should it cost me money???!

A completely dead line, EVERY time. You can sing, shout, whistle, anything you like and there's nothing there. They phone once a day for a few days, even sometimes three times in a row, then, fortunately, they stop. But not yet, this time!

The advice, if it works, might just save you from being hated. But only because there IS a recession on and a body needs food, no matter what the economy is doing and only this once.
Why can't they write? At least I glance over named advertising mail before I throw it in the recycling.

Called by, apparently, BG (I called the 0800 number back to check). They asked for my wife, who died three years ago. This is despite having had the account details changed to my name alone at the time.

i called that number too ya, to stop these annoying calls and they said to shove meatballs down there mouth and get lost we will call you when we like.

seriously this is annoying what gives them the right?

Have been pestered several times a day for the last week even though I've spoken to British Gas regarding this matter on a number of occasions.

Also been having daily calls for the past two weeks and as I'm away for the summer my family have had to cope with them as British Gas caller will only talk to me.
Took Nick's advice (Aug 2009) and called the automated number......will wait for 28 days with hope!

This number calls me 3 or 4 times a day.  No message is ever left so just think it is not important. Its is very annoying though.  Have thought about answering it just to tell them not to keep ringing but then think, hey its not my bill.

This was British Gas trying to go me to go back to them, then phone 4 times to day trying to get me to go back to them.

Called on behalf of British Gas trying to get me to buy my electric with them as well.  Explained that I already did but wouldn't except my answer and continued to ask questions.   Afterwards contacted British Gas who confirmed it wasn't them

This number has phoned a  few times now.  I answer they hang up.  Redial the number and its not recognised.
Can something be done to prevent these calls? Other than on the web it is not clear it was BG but if it is I am pleased I ditched them.

They phoned again just now and hung up as soon as I spoke.  How do you stop them?

just called me, never left a and just hung up. If it was so important that they bothered to ring, why not leave a message ???????. Time wasters.
