This number is used by Boku, a phone collection service (based in San Fransico, USA - with supposedly Europe wide offices) that collects "subscriptions" from, normally inadvertantly, "subscribing" to on-line adverts, messages and web sites. Boku send you a confirmation text, using this number, to tell you that you have just subscribed again.

What happens is that you click on a message or advert that is sent to you:-

In my mate's case it was a Singles Dating advert on Facebook called AYI, "Are You Interested".
The plonker clicks on "yes" under the photo of a young girl and is then charged £10 per month by AYI and £10 per month collection charge. The guy is on a contract so he doesn't see the money go out until next month. Queries it with the phone company, who say "you must of subscribed to something on-line via the phone" - It's just a normal transaction to them, they are only doing as they are told by you.

Use this link to find out how to unsubscribe to AYI, (basically delete it under the 'privacy' heading:
    http://www.easytweaks.com/2011/04/11/remove-are-you-interested-facebook/

So as adults: remember - don't be seduced by young girls on Facebook; don't use Facebook while your drunk; check your phone bill regularly, face up to your stupidity. . . .  and have an honest relationship with your children if THEY do get caught subscribing to something like this on-line. You can't change what's happened but they can learn from their mistakes. . .  and pay off the money they rack up on the phone. My mate buys me a beer every week with gratitude.

This company is Boku  ( other trade names exist I understand )   See  http://www.boku.com

I have had a similar message  --   spoken to them  --  not yet convinced this is not a scam
They claim some one has used my phone to make payments , which are confirmed by responding to Yes or No one of their texts asking you to confirm payment.

They are alledgedly tracking down the on line games account that my money is being used for, but were most anxious that I did not rush to the Police  ????   Think I will report it anyway

    Watch this space

IS it not time this practice is stopped - be it genuine or not ?

Mostly used on Facebook when buying, payment for any of these can only be made from the mobile phone the text message goes to and you have to answer (Y)or (YES) to the money request otherwise payment will not go thru otherwise if this was not the case then everyone could buy by using anyone else's mobile number...1st text message is your acknowledgement if you respond you the pay and each text that arrives will be the value of the purchase. So you didn't buy or order anything then don't respond otherwise you will be charged and the scammer that used you number will get his/her goods.

I have 2 contract phones with Vodafone, one for me and one for my son. Every month he has a charge of anywhere between £2.50 - £6.00 from this number. No text messages are sent/received. Every month I phone Vodafone and they 'unsubscribe' this number and remove the charges from my bill. Both Vodafone and I are getting fed up of this!!

Hi Tracy, I've had exactly the same problem as you.. I am with Vodafone also and they have refused to waive the cost of these 'purchases' as it is totalling £160!!! Did Vodafone do anything to help you? They've now cut me off because I refuse to pay it.

    Appreciate your time

Between November and December 13 'transactions' have been added to my account totalling £160!! No idea what these are, or who has taken the money apart from googling the number below and seeing this forum. Phone Vodafone to be told they won't do anything about it as it's not their problem and expect me to pay it. I don't think so. I have also contacted the police as per advice from on here and was given a crimer reference saying Vodafone need to contact them to confirm its a fraudulent claim. Vodafone has now cut me and my partners phones off!!!!!!! (on same account)
    Absolutely dispicable and a joke.
The policeman said his personal opinion was refuse to pay it and let Vodafone take me to court.
These low life scum need to be caught.

I found on my Vodafone bill a £6.00 purchase apparently I made on Boxing day.  I have no idea where this has come from as I'm very careful about where I put my number.  I have had no text messages through on this date from Paymo, and no phone calls from this company.  I've asked Vodafone to cancel any subscriptions from my account, but they won't remove the payment of £6.00.  This is how it appears on my statement: Paymo-08081202341

Hot off the press so to speak....Just reviewed my latest mbile phone bill online.

I have been hit not once but 30 times by something/someone called Paymo-08081202341. This has happened over a 2 week period from Jan 2nd to 15th. Each appear as purchases on my phone bill with anything from £1 to £30 per it.

The cost currently is £299.50 . I have no idea how or why this has happened!!! I have checked my bills and have no record of recieving a call from this number......how can this happen? Anyone?

The stance from Vodafone is vague but I hope to get more out of them tomorrow (today being Monday).

See the post on this thread by Some. Bloke-there is a link he provided to unsubscribe. To get your money back, call the company number on the website. If they refuse to return the money, take them to small claims court. Also, if your cellphone runs apps, go to your app market and download an SMS blocker, and have your service provider block incoming international calls, third party service providers and premium SMS. This will prevent you from being robbed like this again in the future.
