a recorded message saying 01 424 892982 calls referred to this number. 01 424 number given via Domestic and General to contact Gas Plus for boiler repair. Several blocks of 15 minute unanswered calls - only recorded message about being in a queue. Still trying to arrane boiler repair

rang it loads of times but recorded message held in a queue. no idea yet how much the calls have cost

My wife had a dream about another number - 01464 330 440 - upon calling there was a repeated message that the number had changed to 08431163344. A Google search reveals an attempted call to a software support line which said that the number had been changed to this number, and a web directory listing for a fencing company in Nottingham.

Tried calling it, and got a message saying "Please hold while we connect your call." OK, fine - but who to? It seems there are several peple claiming the number, although nobody actively advertises it as a contact point. It *could* be that this is an inbound aggregate number - i.e. companies call out with this as their caller ID, and when you call back it checks your inbound caller ID and routes you to whoever it was. But who would a person get through to if they were a newcomer to the system, if anyone?

A client of hours says that when he tried our various office numbers he was given a message each time to ring this 08431163344 number which has no relation to us.  We understand this could be a scam number and want to know how he should receive a message on our phone system

We are also experiencing people calling our office and getting this message, very intermittent.  The company who own the 0843 116 number block claim it is people mis-dialling and are unwilling to investigate, BT also say it isn't possible.

Margaret, would be interested to find out what phone system you have to see if it is a hack to this or people's phone lines being intercepted

We suddenly lost our internet connection last night and realised that the phone line was just a hissing noise with no dialling tone.  We dialled our land line using a mobile, only to hear a recorded message saying our number had been changed to 08431163344.  Upon ringing that number we were placed in a queue without knowing who we were ringing.  At this point I got fairly concerned in case our landline was being hijacked or that we were being scammed into making a very expensive call, so hung up.  As it was late we couldn't contact Talktalk to query what was happening and had to hope it would be sorted out.  Checked the phone this morning and all back to normal; just waiting to see the bill now...

Had a call from someone called Hilary,she called several times and the number she gave was 01970 531101. rang that number and was told to call 08431163344. As all above have stated you get put in a queue and never get to talk to someone.

I made an error dialling a number and was transferred to an answer machine telling me that the number had been changed to 08431163344.
I noticed my initial mistake, but cannot see who transferred me to the answer machine message. I've tried repeating the error from other phones but only my land line takes me to this answer machine.

So - question to the others who have dialled this number - are you with talktalk? I am wondering if this is a play that talktalk use to charge me for a call I otherwise would not have paid for.

I called AMEX (American Express) with the usual number and am told the number no longer exists please call....08431163344.
Even Amex is included now!!

Forgot to mention that I am with talk talk also....

update.. called the same number using my mobile instead of talk talk landline and got through straight away so seems it is talk talk issue.

If they are then it looks like talktalk generate the "this number had been changed to 08431163344" whenever one of there customers makes a certain mistake in dialling. In my case, by prefixing the desired dialled number number with a 5.
This means that you then dial 08431163344 attempting to reach your intended person. The call is answered and you are then charged, by talktalk. You hang on waiting for the call to be picked up but all you get is the message saying that your call will be ansered as soon as possible. No-one ever picks up.

I suspect that talktalk also own the number, so get to keep the monies recieved.

Not sure what can be done about it, I doubt if its even illegal, but it is certainy immoral.

Time to start looking for another phone provider methinks...............

received call from 01292653125 today when phone back am told no. changed to 08431163344 and answering machine stating in a queue

I rang my Doctor's prescription line this morning and got the 08431163344 number because a voice said the doc's number had been changed to it, hung on for ages as need prescription urgently.  Rang the Doctor's appointment line to ask them, they knew nothing about it at all!  As I had rung prescription line 3 times to write the number down, it was not a mistake on my part.
. Still puzzled, as I am with Virgin Media and they know nothing about it either, just said itwas a kosher number thats the 08431 bit, waiting on phone bill in trepidation!!
